Being born and raised in Durban this is a very special video. We hope you enjoy and as always learn something new! #BestBunnyInDurban #BunnyChow #SearchforEverything. Do you agree with our list? Let us know below where is your favourite place to get a Bunny Chow.
Thanks so much! Perhaps when we return we may do something along the lines. But I don't think we will repeat this style of video. It can only happen once a year as we are based in China now.
I haven’t tried any of those. I tried Cane Cutters (Umhlanga), Oriental (Musgrave), Curry’Os (Hillcrest) and Manhattans (Gateway). Manhattans is by far the best. All the flavors blend so well and the ingredients are fresh
Saw some of the places the people preparing the bunnies not using gloves and handling the food with their bare dirty hands which is a big no..and some places like Hollywood bunnies and curryos they used gloves which is the right way to handle food..especially the first stop where in the video showed a person removing the inner of the bread and can see that persons nails and hands look so filthy...they should not be allowed to handle food like that..you guys should give copper chimney in chats centre a try aswel..their bunnies are nice..and maybe make a video to expose how food is handled aswel..
I have not tried Hollywood BB yet, but will. I do have some thoughts though. I never buy lamb bunny when I have the mutton option. Mutton is not inferior. It just takes longer, and has a lot more flavour than lamb. Hollywood also looks very flashy and commercial. Kind of like walking into one of the major chains like steers, kfc or wimpy. The best bunny chow's I've had has always been these gritty looking establishments that is a little bit off the grid and hidden away. Nice video. I will be making my mother in law bunny tomorrow with some extra cinemon and utd potatoes. Luckily I can get mutton in midrand.
Ben thanks for this! You certainly have got your flavors down. It is true that those off-the-grid places do have some of the best Bunny chows in Durban or anywhere. It's because they have some kind of a home influence in the kitchen. The Hollywood Bunny Bar was really surprising the interior and service. We didn't expect to see such a professional-looking place. They are a must-try! And also Curry O's are on the Waterfront in Durban now so try and visit there if you can.
There is no place in Durban that sells n good curry or bunny chow , I hv tried almost every takeaway but GOUNDENS in umbilo was ok but nothing compared to my mother's
Yes, out of courtesy of these wonderful local business we didn't want to pick just one as the best over the others...so we created three separate categories in terms of why we selected them. 🙏🙏🙏
I have to say, Hollywood Bunnies was actually quite disappointing. I had their lamb bunny. It stained my fingers and the taste was aweful! Basically, they don’t cook the masala and tumeric while frying the onions. Feels like they put those in while the curry is almost cooked (hence the strained fingers). It causes the bunny to taste horrible because of that.
I'm not sure about the Bunny you ate on that day, however you are right if you don't cook the masala and turmeric etc. properly at the beginning then you screw the whole curry
Please also try Harry's Delights Cornubia Mall, Orientals at the Phoenix Plaza and Manhattan's Gateway. I also am a fan of Hollywood and TSD. But you have to review those as well 😃
Really. We came from Jozi. Formally durbanites ourselves. Staff was rude. Security was another issue demanding entry fees. We sat at a filthy table. Place was filthy. If that's what you call curry. Come let me cook for you. You have no idea of spices period. As for for the hospitality. It leaves a lot to be desired. Home should be home especially with something like this. Disgusted as far I am concerned.
I really think you guys should say it's your opinion on the food reviews you guys wasted my money and time on the bunny Chow's and a few other things. Please go study food get the experience and then become food critics. These places serve average food and was a waste of time and money you guys have a common palette.
I have mixed feelings about this video. My top Bunny Chow restaurant is most definitely TSD, Springfield Park (but I have to add that they serve their bunnies with carrot salad only and not with the chillies pickle as depicted in the video). They are consistently very good and never fails to disappoint. A second restaurant, would be a new addition to the Durban Bunny Chow scene, viz. Kaskade, situated on Florida Road. I have to add my Top 5 Worst IN Durban, because we also have to know where not to go and waste OUR money.. 😂 🤣 😂 1) HollywoodBets (Springfield Park), worst bunny chow ever, left my fingers stained yellow for days (even after trying to scrub it out) coupled with THE WORST SERVICE EVER TOO. 2) CaneCutters (Glen Wood), started of very well and within 6 weeks and the increase in patronage, their quality and service deteriorated to nought. Management has an attitude and doesn't take constructive criticism. 3) Orientals (Workshop), again an overrated establishment with a below par meal being served together with service that makes you wait till your hunger is just about gone. 4) Goundens (Umbilo Road), yet another popular place that is overrated that served me stale bread (it was hard and was a mission to eat). 5) Capsicum (Hotel Britannia), a long established restaurant, but with time and gain in popularity has resulted in the service, consistency and meal being served going down in my opinion. They reduced the Quarter Bunny Chow to half its size yet keeping the price the same, fooling people into thinking they haven't increased their pricing structure. I'm willing to pay the extra, but don't shortchange me on the meal. That's my take, but as I always say (and have realised over time), everyone's taste is different and is unique, so rather than listen to me or any other reviewer, go out and try the meal for yourself and make up your own mind. We all have unique taste buds, so what I like may not be to another's liking. Happy Bunny Chow eating ☺ 👍🏼 PS: I have to get out to Curry O's to try their Bunny Chow, and give MY LOVE TO opinion on the meal. 👏
Dear Sudesh, firstly thank you for your comment. To be honest in majority of commercial restaurants it is better to use the method of Handwashing as opposed to gloves. During the shoot the kitchen was extremely clean and although did not use gloves the TSD staff did pay attention to their own cleanliness. This is why it was not a problem for us. Coupled with the fact that you eat a Bunny with your own hands cancels out the argument. But this review is for you to decide which is the best place in the 3 we tried unbiased. So thank you for the comment, a great observation. 🙏
@@Trevoulin Regardless, it's an industry standard. You eating with your own hands I understand, thats obvious, but in this day in age for an establishment serve people without the basics of food hygiene is not very appealing. How come you guys didn't review the likes of Canecutters or Britannia? Those are without a doubt Durbans Bunnychow institutions 🤩

You went from Springfield to essentially pinetown and all the way back to Springfield. Why?
Actually this was just a schedule and shooting choice. Shot on different days.

I am from Durban, SA now living in the Middle East CANNOT FIND Durban bunny chows NOR Durban Indian cooking here please help!!!!!!!!!
Hi would prefer mutton any day over lamb
Where is this BP located?
The staff must wear gloves to prepare the bunny - must practice hygiene.
For me its Goundens in umbilo

Lamb is tender but mutton is tastier. Yummy

the way its served overflowing and making the bread soggy, it looks like a real mess to eat, no wonder this dish has not taken off in other countries
