Mitchie is right. Thanks for the feedback im happy it hits home. Skate tutorials frustrate me so were just trying to creat a huge database of actual instruction that will actually make a difference. I’m happy its working !
This is seriously the best advice ever I spent forever just dragging my foot because everyone tells you to no one makes you realize it’s happens almost naturally when you are doing it right
Dude this helped me go from barely getting the board an inch or just jumping with no pop to clearing at least 6in or more and I can at least get them consistently now. It’s not perfect but your videos really really help, coming from longboarding but first time really getting into skateboarding. Played around with a board as a kid but it mostly collected dust, tried again 2 years ago but that lasted 2 weeks (I was sooo anxious at the park lol)
Solid advice! Pop, let it happen and then steezy comes with the poke.. and with that learning how to manipulate the board with its own natural force.. #progression #practicepracticepractice #teacheroftheyear
This explains my frustration at following instructions that said to do this! Funny, I see a lot of ollies with no slide, especially really quick pops, so I thought maybe this could be wrong. But nobody seemed to offer an alternative. Now it makes sense! Thank you!

While I see people in that position as victims they are also big influencers of others lives and I don’t like to think kids are being brought into Scientology because of them. But if their videos help you skate better that’s great. Their Ollie videos helped me learn to Ollie, however this video showed that their method is more of a stepping stone rather than the ideal Ollie.
When i was a kid id always teach people to put their front foot just behind the bolts, pop and jump in one motion and try and land both feet on the bolts. It doesnt produce a high ollie but it does get people landing in the right spot, not slipping out and feeling like theyve accomplished something
SOMEONE FINALLY SAID IT, once i finally unlocked ollies i began telling this tip to people for years, as well as your ollie is centered more around your pop and jump and not on the slide like everyone says
Technically the key is sliding your front foot forwards, but not before you have popped. For many of us the popping part is so obvious that many coaches just teach the next phase and don't state the obvious. Sure if you heard it the first time ever from this video it's all game.
Bro... I was lied to. When I was 15, my buddies were ollying and trying to explain like, "slam the tail to the ground, jump, and slide your front foot up the board," but I never got it, and gave up. This video, and the one where you said you should never hit the ground with the tail when you ollie, have literally changed how I think about it. Screw it. I might be fat, but Im buying a board. I'm gonna land a damned ollie.
When you will get a board? You gotta land it soon and you will land a shuvit couple days later!🙌🏽 Those 2 tricks did unlock the Passion , it's better than meditation 💯
@snareplug3872 ordered one yesterday bro. Should be here by Weds. Dude, if I could land a shuvit, I'll be beside myself. My dream just is to be able to land kickflip. That'd be so cool
YES fuckin thank you I’ve been having to re-teach so many friends and family members that keep doing Ollie north’s on accident. Roll that ankle over!!!
I've been trying to explain this to people for many years. It's basic physics. If the foot slides, then it's an a excess of energy in that direction - and you're actually holding it down. The ol' "pop, jump and drag the board" is fine for explaining the basic idea of the motion, and getting the first couple of ollies over a curb, but once you get better at it, and start thinking about it, you'll realise that you can't actually drag the board upwards when standing on top of it. When the tail pops and you jump, you're technically weightless in relation to the board. Any contact will only push it away. It's simply not physically possible to drag the board upwards. It's okay to be in contact, but any movement more than that will push the board away. The upward motion is all from the pop, and you simply need to allow it to happen in a controlled manner. A high Ollie is a lot like a kickflip. Aim for the catch somewhat ahead and above. Don't focus on landing on the ground just yet. Just think "I want to be at the peak of the Ollie" and aim at that. Landing is easy if you "catch" the peak. That's the trick to both Kickflip and Ollie: Aim for the catch.

This is something I've been telling "teachers" for years everyone always forgets to mention the part where you gotta jump and lift your foot first! Well said G you really are the man Mitchie!! Sorry if I spelled your name wrong mine is Richie sooo lol 😂
Omg that makes so much more sense than just sliding forward and launching yourself off the board
Thank you!
Literally the best skating coach ever. I mean this literally, listened to this, nailed an Ollie 5th try. Nuts
Wow you seriously are an amazing coach
Thank you!
This changed my whole perspective and I can't wait to try this out! Thank you 🙇🏾♂️
Been telling people this for years , glad to see somelne sharing the pop gospel
Grateful for you Dawg! 💯
Back at you
Mastering ollies is the single most satisfying thing in life.
30 years in and this is the first time I’ve ever heard someone explain it this way.
Hopefully it makes sense
You are a great coach!
Aaron Kyro is in tears after this one… And the fact that he got caught for using the money from Braille for Scientology
Tough
whaaaaat... do you have source? that's crazy
@@sozoknight He’s openly a Scientologist. He’s in one of their magazines in a group photo if you want proof.
For me right now I think lifting the back foot is what helped me bone my Ollie’s more and get more height as well. Great advice though as always
When i was a kid id always teach people to put their front foot just behind the bolts, pop and jump in one motion and try and land both feet on the bolts. It doesnt produce a high ollie but it does get people landing in the right spot, not slipping out and feeling like theyve accomplished something
Yeah thats super legit. I couldn’t put it any better myself
SOMEONE FINALLY SAID IT, once i finally unlocked ollies i began telling this tip to people for years, as well as your ollie is centered more around your pop and jump and not on the slide like everyone says
Makes me wanna consider boarding again it’s been years but this makes so much sense.
I love it. Take your time, go through the ollie course. You got this
When you will get a board? You gotta land it soon and you will land a shuvit couple days later!🙌🏽 Those 2 tricks did unlock the Passion , it's better than meditation 💯
@snareplug3872 ordered one yesterday bro. Should be here by Weds. Dude, if I could land a shuvit, I'll be beside myself. My dream just is to be able to land kickflip. That'd be so cool
I always felt like this was true, so this is so validating 😂
This changes how I even look at the Ollie. Amazing explanation here...
Always thought I was going crazy when I’d get more pop and lift without sliding my foot up like they all tell you to do. Thanks for the killer tip!
Yeah its a frustrating one. Skateboard teaching couldn’t get much worse to be honest. Happy to help
The best advice I ever got for poping Ollie’s was to hike my knees up as high as possible. I went form 4 decks stacked to 6 decks stacked that summer.
I could Ollie clean over a garbage can after I. Got that advice
Yep thats legit
YES fuckin thank you I’ve been having to re-teach so many friends and family members that keep doing Ollie north’s on accident. Roll that ankle over!!!
Made me pick up my board after 7 years. First day back my ollie is already higher and more boned than it ever was before with less effort too.
I’ve been skating for 25 years and you are literally making me rethink the very first trick I learned all those years ago 😅
Haha if it works I wouldn’t worry about it
@@SKATEiQ true, I’ve been doing it so long now that I don’t even think about how I’m doing it anymore. Love your content btw! The level of detail you put into the skate tips is amazing. I really wish something like this existed back when I was coming up!
I've been struggling for about a year now on my ollies but this made it click in my head. Time to go out and test it!
Sick !
Yeah for me, the sliding was always like the third step after pushing the tail through the ground then lifting knees.
yeah 100% . i wish that was taught more often
This Actually helped a lot I’ve been trying to learn how to skate for a long time but gave up because I never could do an Ollie and every thing I looked up said to slide your foot
Let me know how it goes! I hope you give it some more tries. It’s normal for it to take a long time to learn how to skate.
Man you are good brutha ..I learned the wrong way..I even showed my son the wrong way..n he had problems..he did it first time when I showed him this ..love it and keep up the gr8 work my brutha!! ..sk8ters 4 life!!..or ol school..SK8 OR DIE..LOL
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying!
This is the one where an experienced skateboarder shows and explains a common misconception about attempting an ollie.
I'm not a skater and will never even try it. But I like seeing skateboarding and it's pleasant to learn things and your way of teaching is nice to watch.
Great content!
I stumbled upon your videos, certainly because I follow French skateboarder Joseph Garbaccio (I'm french/he's multiple times champion de France ) who makes really entertaining skateboarding content.
Keep up the good work thanks
Great Vid Coach !!
Thanks !
Same with kick flips. I have been skating for over 20 years kick flipped over a lot of things over the years and I literally just learned this this year
I haven’t been on a board in years but I gotta try this now, thanks!
Great break down
Thank you!
He's definitely right, I skate in flip flops during the summer and I don't do anything crazy but I can definitely Ollie over little stuff without any marks on my toes😎
Actually true, it’s not that others are wrong but they just didn’t dissect it like he did
You can’t teach magic to Muggles, Harry.
HAAA
that's such a better explanation
Thanks!
Key to an Ollie is correcting whatever you're doing wrong
Wait wait wait let him cook
@@SKATEiQ you're cooking a mean ass meal for those ready to eat that portion of the meal
Basically the key to learning anything ever lol
@@christopherpape4823 key to life lol
Took me so long to figure this out. Thank you!
No problem! hope it helps
Only video I’ve ever seen to explain it this way ,best advice
