      Ain't this the truth. Spent all my teen and early 20s not even knowing how to properly Ollie. Would be proud to get half a foot off the ground. After trying these methods I can honestly say I've landed a 2.5 ft Ollie. ( Not the greatest accomplishment to some people but I am beyond happy with it!) Thanks @SkateIQ

      @@grizzofthenorthur a poser if you can't Ollie at least 4 decks high by the time you been skating for a year. These ppl must suck so bad I'm happy I never skated wit you, type of guy to go to the skatepark and leave 30 minutes later cause ur bored 😂😂😂, I've know ppl like you I just can't be around you. I was doing 360 flips at 12 years old back in 2002 before youtube, you had to teach urself. That's skateboarding

      It's a dance. Everyone can move but can they explain it? My guess is the more we analyze it and have people disecting it the more the new generation takes it to a whole new level. With knowledge comes greater and greater complexity. The art of skateboarding.

      I feel that. I must've spent weeks straight back in the day trying to drag my foot in the garage and essentially just kicking the board out from under me before I was given the advice of "just jump and you'll naturally 'slide' a bit."
      Even that was a bit reductive and took a ton of trial and error to eventually understand what this guy was able to put down in 15 seconds, lmao.

      Key word the “SLIDE comes”. To say it’s not necessary to do an Ollie is just incorrect. Like your foot slides it’s plain as day and you saying it’s a by product def means it’s a necessary component of the Ollie haha. I’ll give you it may be easier to teach by way of not having them focus on the slide, but you definitely need to slide your food to properly level it out and get a nice Ollie we all know this hahaha.

    I saw an Ollie in 88 when I was on tour with my Hardcore Punk band in Eastern Canada.. a kid was in Halifax, skating around the city park. We were there, doing acid drops off of everything .. that kid took us to the lawn. We started to learn to Ollie on the grass!! Once I could kick then land it. ? Then I took it to the street. By the time we were head to the next city I had it down.. one of the greatest BASE LINE moves..

If I had had this lesson about LIFTING your front foot up then using it to level the board out, I would have been getting much higher ollies. Too bad I don't really skate anymore LOL.

    When i was a kid id always teach people to put their front foot just behind the bolts, pop and jump in one motion and try and land both feet on the bolts. It doesnt produce a high ollie but it does get people landing in the right spot, not slipping out and feeling like theyve accomplished something

    Technically the key is sliding your front foot forwards, but not before you have popped. For many of us the popping part is so obvious that many coaches just teach the next phase and don't state the obvious. Sure if you heard it the first time ever from this video it's all game.

    Bro... I was lied to. When I was 15, my buddies were ollying and trying to explain like, "slam the tail to the ground, jump, and slide your front foot up the board," but I never got it, and gave up. This video, and the one where you said you should never hit the ground with the tail when you ollie, have literally changed how I think about it.

  • @bstix5843
    @bstix5843 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've been trying to explain this to people for many years. It's basic physics. If the foot slides, then it's an a excess of energy in that direction - and you're actually holding it down.
    The ol' "pop, jump and drag the board" is fine for explaining the basic idea of the motion, and getting the first couple of ollies over a curb, but once you get better at it, and start thinking about it, you'll realise that you can't actually drag the board upwards when standing on top of it. When the tail pops and you jump, you're technically weightless in relation to the board. Any contact will only push it away. It's simply not physically possible to drag the board upwards. It's okay to be in contact, but any movement more than that will push the board away.
    The upward motion is all from the pop, and you simply need to allow it to happen in a controlled manner.
    A high Ollie is a lot like a kickflip. Aim for the catch somewhat ahead and above. Don't focus on landing on the ground just yet. Just think "I want to be at the peak of the Ollie" and aim at that. Landing is easy if you "catch" the peak. That's the trick to both Kickflip and Ollie: Aim for the catch.
