IONIQ 5 robotaxi - Hyundai passes the driver's license test

  • Self-driving cars could be a huge step towards independence for people like Pearl who has to rely on others to stay mobile.
But her mother Ruth remains skeptical.
She’s not alone with her opinion.
Many people have reservations when it comes to self-driving cars.
Hyundai is working with its autonomous driving technology partner, Motional, to develop an IONIQ 5 robotaxi that will address mobility challenges in support of Hyundai Motor Company’s objective to provide freedom of mobility to all.
In the simulation in this video, we are presenting our IONIQ 5 robotaxi with the ultimate challenge: a simulated driving test with a certified DMV driving examiner in Las Vegas. The goal of this video is to underscore the potential for autonomous driving technology to address the future needs of those with mobility challenges.
► Learn more about the IONIQ 5 robotaxi passing this simulated driver's license test:

    #Hyundai #IONIQ5 #robotaxi #AutonomousDriving
    **Note:
The IONIQ 5 robotaxi service is subject to limited availability in select areas of Las Vegas, Nevada at select times of day. Customers in Las Vegas interested in taking a ride in the robotaxi can visit the Uber app and select UberX or Uber Comfort Electric options for a chance to be matched with the vehicle. If an autonomous vehicle is available to complete the trip, Uber will match the rider to the vehicle and they will receive an offer to opt-in before the autonomous trip is confirmed and dispatched to pick them up. During the continued testing of this autonomous driving feature by Motional, the autonomous vehicles will be staffed with a vehicle operator in the driver’s seat, who can take over driving the vehicle during the trip if necessary.
Ms. Jones was compensated for her participation in this video. The simulated driving test administered by Ms. Jones in the campaign film is not sanctioned or certified by the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles. The driver’s license issued by Ms. Jones during the campaign film is a replica driver’s license and is not sanctioned by the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.
Portions of the autonomous driving segments in the campaign film were simulated with a human driver. The IONIQ 5 robotaxi has undergone thousands of hours of testing of its autonomous driving features, and Motional continues to test its autonomous vehicles on closed and open courses in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This advertisement aims to promote the expected mobility trends of the future. Hyundai Motor Company advises against imitating the scenes. Furthermore, Hyundai does not assume any responsibility for any violations of applicable laws due to insufficient attention while driving. Hyundai is working with Motional to develop the self-driving IONIQ 5 robotaxi based on the IONIQ 5 model. The robotaxi is not yet available on specific markets including European territory.

Put that shows that blind people can get around by themselves in a self-driving car. And pearl is the perfect example of how this is being done! Hyundai is going to start doing more testing for blind people as far as people from the department of motor vehicles during the testing driverless cars from Hyundai. I think what's going to end up happening is that robo taxes as well as self-driving cars are going to kill public transportation! So I think that they need for getting on a city bus is going to be pretty much irrelevant search robo taxes are going to be the only way to go in the near future. I should know because I take public transportation because I am blind!

The scary thing about this is that each car makes its own software, and there's competition, which means that the software is a trade secret. One company might make a car that passes the road test, but another might fail. And at the end of the day, you don't remember which ad you saw or which company is good or bad. These self-driving car softwares should be open source, so people can make improvements. This would make me trust more, but the way things are right now, I don't think they are safe.

It'd be like being a passenger with my gf... I'm always thinking (can NEVER say out loud) things like, "Okay... that light just ahead is green... but she's trying to multi-task in the form of carrying on a conversation... so she's slowing down. Please, just a LITTLE more gas so we can at least approach the speed limit somewhat to make this thing. Come on, just a little more... uh-oh! Yellow... BUT, there's plenty of time to still make... but no. She's stopping. OKAY... not a big deal... AHHHHHHHH!!!"

There was no storm, no snow, no hail, no dust, no floods, not at sunset or sunrise, and no insect swarms to block the sensors. Furthermore, until these machines can pass the hopping kangaroo spooked by its own shadow in the headlights test, the galloping herd or wild horses test, or the leaping deer test, forget it. I know you will say that many people might fail in these conditions, but many also manage to avoid all of these. Not convinced.
