its definitely hard to find people who want to try different types of fantasy RPG. Every local community I encounter its all D&D and maybe Pathfinder. I want to try Runequest too but not sure how many people play it

      I keep trying.
Had a DCC game fizzle out before it really began earlier this summer. It's not even THAT far from D&D, yet...not much interest.
May try for some Sci-Fi next time, as I know a few people who really don't like Fantasy, but they're also super busy & only somewhat into RPGs at all.
      Fingers crossed.
My local game store is pretty much useless, sadly.

@@matthewconstantine5015 i know what you mean. Its similar with wargaming in local game stores, people only play Warhammer 40k and will not try anything else

I have been running RQ for years. I would never consider running dnd ever again [tried 5e once as a dm once hated it]. If you want to run a different game just run it. If the players rebel. Don’t turn the dnd tap back on. Given a choice between the wrong game and no game most players will try the wrong game. I played dnd, because nothing else was on offer at the time. That’s no longer true. I have players who have wanted to play RQ for literally decades, get online and find some. 😊

The only time I've tried to run D&D was with 3rd (not even 3.5). I hated it. I've played most of the editions over the years, with the exception of 4th, which came and went while I was out of the hobby. I've never liked it. So, yeah. It's never even an option when I offer to run games for folks.
I wish I got the same satisfaction from online games as I do in-person. I play in one, and it's good. But I much, MUCH prefer in-person, around a table. I'm currently stuck in the suburbs, where nobody is close to anybody and there are few public places to gather. So, finding neutral ground to run games for strangers is tough, too. But I may soon be moving in closer to the city core, and if I do, I'm hoping to be able to have more access to in-person interactions. We'll see.

@@matthewconstantine5015 for me it has been ‘play online or nothing’ but I’m getting to run some of the best games of my life online. Great players, great stories.
