Refurbing my sisters old laptop. Very helpful, Justin, thank you. I also used to have that nice Lenovo y510p Dual SLI laptop you have there. Pretty kickass for it's time! Could even keep up with some of todays stuff!

Thank you for the great video. Hopefully it will save a few machines of being damaged and a few minutes/hours of frustration. I know how valuable this information is, I know laptop disassembly is a tricky business. These machines are nicely built. Not too many plastic bits to break during disassembly and access to the components are accessible.

That's a really good vid, really really helped me replace my CMOS battery. Thanks. I'm gonna say a couple of things which I hope will be taken in the spirit that they are meant which might also be useful: Could your shot be closer to the machine so we can see in more detail what's going on, the computer only takes up a third/quarter of the screen, the rest taken up by mat and some other keyboard (that's never used). It'd be really handy for those fiddly bits. Secondly: 2 or 3 still shots showing where all the screws go and what type they are at various stages of disassembly ? I know that all this is more effort on the makers part (esp the second suggestion), and my questions are just to highlight possible improvements for future vid makers/disassemblers. Just some ideas, it's great as is, again thank you very much. (Best bit the twist and slide to get the case off) 🙂

    Excellent video - Thank you.
I need to replace the BIOS chip, and was wondering how far I have to disassemble the unit in order to get to it - Also, where the BIOS chip is on the board (I could probably find it when I take it apart, but it would be useful to know beforehand). Thanks

Hi this is a great easy to follow video. Thank you. Before I go ahead and open my Elitebook up, I believe that the power adapter surged. So I have a new HP power supply the laptop will not start. The blue light with what looks like a lightening symbol above it on the front panel is on. It is the light next to the HD write drive. My question....Is there a fuse on the motherboard?

My computer stopped charging probably due to coffee that spilled a week ago. It worked fine until a week after. Otherwise, computer worked just fine. Thank you for your time.

I took apart completely and when I was putting my screen back on I put both hinge screws in. After I did so and tried folding it down to work on getting the rest back together, it snapped off the plastic part extremely easily. I am going to get a replacement part, but do you have any ideas how to fix this going forward? Ill be extremely scared to do that again.

Thank you, this looks easier than 6555b and even 8440p, but what about the display panel? Did it remain underneath the last corpus surface underneath the motherboard and where the fan is sitting, and the keyboard back lays on it. So what we see is the corpus bottom surface underneath the motherboard, and under it the keyboard is sitting? You do not have to do this, if you want to change the LCD panel, right? Can you unscrew the screws and open the display panel frame as it is attached to its hinges to the main body?

    • @ondra30
      @ondra30 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, exactly, just the display panel. But for me and all those who are upgrading from HD to HD+, new LCD cable must be installed. Still complete disassembly isn't necessary.

Very informative, however my question would be what if i just wanted to change the whole screen assembly on my hp elitebook 8470p? Do I really have to unscrew all those components? Because to me it seems like al i'd have to do is to unscrew the 4 screws for the hinges and i should be good to go right?

Yes. you can use the hdd.
The optical drive can be fit with a proper bracket.
maybe the wifi card if your motherboard has a port for it.
Ram sticks and processor would be only accepted by some very specific motherboards with the same socket.
The screen would need a proper controller board and power supply.
Speakers? well, someone might be able no make an adapter to use them... If you want to hack you just need some imagination.

Hey, Justin, I notice you haven't answered ANY questions posted here in the last 8 years, so I don't hold out much hope that you'll respond to THIS one, but I'm dealing with a BIOS error situation that THIS guy says if fixable by removing the CMOS battery in my Elitebook 8460p, unselecting a couple of checkboxes in the BIOS setting (F10 on startup), then replacing the battery. (He doesn't say with new or old!) th-cam.com/video/F1YcpMrxJNQ/w-d-xo.html
Unfortunately, he performs HIS operation on an 8560w, who's BIOS bat. seems much easier to "get at".
So, 2 quest- 1. Is there an easy way to just get to the battery (looks like YOU are disemboweling the entire PC before the BIOS bat is exposed.
    2. Is there no way to perform what HE'S doing WITHOUT taking out the battery?

Sonofabitch! I have to do all that just to replace the cmos rtc battery? I think it might be time to just buy a new cheap laptop.

you can remove the cmos battery plug by removing the two screws for the speaker. I didn't know this until i already completely took off the entire bottom shell
