  • Coilovers are one of the most popular Porsche 964 modifications. How do they perform on a Porsche 964? In this video I look at ride height and settings and do a KW V3 test on the road.
    And I'll answer the question of KW V3 versus Bilstein PSS10 - or at least give my opinion on which I think is better.

    Hi Andy - great video. I’ve got KW v3s on my 964 also; your descriptions of their handling are spot on and well put - you nailed it. I drove a stock 964 a little while back - the difference in the flatness / stability in cornering and braking that the KWs give the car is phenomenal.
    I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the KWs in comparison to the Bilsteins, having had them both on the same car. Like you, a number of my friends have chosen to go the Bilstein route.

    Nice review dude! Just bought a 90' C4 w/77K. Planning on replacing the suspension in the near future. Interesting comparison to the PSS10's. My last 993 I owned had PSS9's and they felt crashy. I know the 10's are a little more adjustable, but still wasn't the right feel. Good for DE's though-too harsh on the street. I like your points with these V3's for the 964 thought! Great channel. Sub'd! Cheers from the PNW, USA.

      Hey Brian. Thanks so much for the comment (and subscription!). As I’ve said to a few people, the difference between the Bilsteins and KW’s isn’t night and day but the subtle differences really do favour KW in my opinion. Definitely glad I made the move! I ran B16 PSS10's on my BMW and I've just had to cut my losses and move to KW V3's. I pick the car up tomorrow so I'm eager to see the difference. The B16's for me were far too harsh on the front making the rear completely unsettled and super bouncy no matter how you set them up. Then comes build quality and CS, I've had to make 3 claims in my 2 years of ownership, 1 cracked rear spring, 2 rear shocks seizing on the dampener adjuster (internal valve failure) and then the fronts have begun to lean causing dangerous handling. Bilstein CS want over 3 months to refurb the hardware each time under warranty, they are super arrogant over the phone and tell you to just be patient (which I am.. but 3 months without a car?). Enough was enough, I've sunk another £2,300 and I'm praying for a better experience over at KW

    • @lastrasp
      @lastrasp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Be interesting to hear how they compare on a BMW. As I say in the vid, it's not like it's a night and day experience. I never had any reliability issues with the Bilsteins thankfully. I think you'll be pleased with the ride on the KW's.

    • @producerlawson
      @producerlawson ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lastrasp As you say, the difference isn't night and day, but it is noticeably nicer. If I want the same level of stiffness on the fronts I can dial them up to be similar, however the lower settings feel to have the same level of precision but with a lot less crash. There's hardly any bounce now and I would presume that's thanks to the individual rebound control, same with body roll and brake dive.. zero. The quality really stands out for me, especially with height adjustability, I can now do the rears without having to strip the wheel liner and the fronts can even be done by hand without the tool.

      @@hyde4376 Hi, yeah I'm really happy so far and the sway bars with the Tarett drop links tightened up things nicely. - Are the drop link and sway bar required to work with the coilovers, or just as add-ons?

    The KW Clubsport version is also a Worth considering. It shares its valving with the race version and is excellent value for money. I have them fitted to my 964C2 and the damping control and ride are excellent. If you want a car that is firm but comfortable on the road and very capable on track, I’d seriously recommend the Clubsport option

    • @lastrasp
      @lastrasp  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I’ve heard this from a few people. They do sound great. Given the poor quality of our roads and the fact that I’ve only done two track days in the car, the V3 is a really nice middle ground.

    • @lastrasp
      @lastrasp  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it’s one thing I’d meant to say about fitting coilovers - the important thing is to consider how you use your car and what you need from it. When I got the car it had stock suspension with H&R lowering springs. Had a pretty good stance and decent ride.

    The KW V3 was extensively developed almost exclusively on an RS America. The ohlin's and PSS10's are not the ideal set ups for a base 964 C2 platform. They (KW) did a great job making an affordable and better performing option.

    Did Porsche install the KWs? My local Porsche recommend Bilsteins on my 997 C2S. I prefer KWs actually.

    • @lastrasp

      My local independent Porsche service shop did the install. It's possible the Bilsteins would be a good solution on the 997. Like I mentioned in the vid, I've driven a 993 with PSS10's and really liked it so I'd take my review as being specific to the 964 C4. Others may have similar feedback though...
