    ** CORRECTION NOTICE ** - A derated takeoff & climb is ONLY used for shorter runways, for example: Runway 20R at KSNA, which is 5,701 feet, as opposed to a standard runway which is 10,000 feet or greater. Therefore, for a standard runway length, do not select derated takeoff or climb.

    Nice video and couple of questions in here:
    1) Aren´t you supposed to have engines off when in ramp?
    2) How did you calculate the cost index?
    3) How did you calculate the reserves?
    4) How do I know the OAT if engines aren´t running?
    Great video BTW!

    • @Blaine10024
      @Blaine10024  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) You are supposed to have the engines off, until you pushback. Likely as I was focusing on just the FMC, I loaded into X-Plane with the aircraft started and ready to go to save time.
      2) The cost index is different for every company, I looked up a general cost index sheet.
      3) The reserves I generally enter as 1 or 2, unless I am doing a long flight.
      4) The OAT can be found above the engine power gauge, and can be used without starting the engine.

    • @chriscrocvlogs
      @chriscrocvlogs 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He made a lot of mistakes and seems to just choose a random reserve figure either 1 or 2, when In real life, the reserve figure used will vary depending on weather; weight etc. He just chooses a random; non calculated number. Not realistic at all.

      I was told, on most or all of the online flight plan generators, SimBrief, etc., you'll get the full info. included on the generated plan, if you look at the PDF file generated with it,
      say, you'll have all of those values given for that flight plan for that particular plane: CI will be somewhere at the bottom of that page, and will give you the cost index value,
      a METAR report usually, and all the fuel weights, reserves and such, as well. I just generated a Zibo plan for JFK to KORD today, on the Online flight Plan site,
      and the PDF file gave me all these values with the basic plan and waypoints. It's too great. You can fudge the CI number but I guess it's better to stick with the
      actual given values for that particular flight plan, makes it more realistic and you should have a smoother flight, as well.

    Blaine - thanks for doing this video. Now that I've got past the basics covered here, I've encountered a new problem: After takeoff and while enroute, my destination weather changed (frontal passage) causing a change in landing runway due to wind changes. Can you change the arrival STAR and landing runway in the FMC while in-flight in the Zibo B737-800?

    • @Blaine10024
      @Blaine10024  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      davidv935 Absolutely. You usually have to change your runway anyway, usually not your STAR. But you can. It's probably best to change the STAR before you cross the first STAR waypoint.

    "A derated takeoff & climb is ONLY used for shorter runways"....I think that's backwards. On the shorter runway or on a wet runway you would not use a derated takeoff. You'll need all the power you have to get off the ground on time. With a longer runway, you have plenty of room to derate the engine power by using an "assumed temperature" and in turn extend the life of the engines.
    I use the "Toper Calculator" or "Topcat" program to figure out the proper temperature for derating the takeoffs.

    • @chriscrocvlogs
      @chriscrocvlogs 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      signman Bob yes he made a major mistake with that. I doubt he knows what he’s talking about, anyone that thinks that a derate is used only on shorter runways has a serious misunderstanding of fundamental aviation logic 😂😂😂😂

  • @treloarw
    @treloarw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    One question. Is autopilot designed to follow all of the speed and altitude call outs for each waypoint? If so, is there anything specific that I need to enable on ap to ensure that it picks up those changes? Other than autothrottle.

    • @Blaine10024

      It is likely that you're using a new version of the Zibo and because of this it may not calculate it. You may have to use an ancillary service such as simbrief.com to find the appropriate altitude you need.

      Thank you for your kind words. That is just the default number in the course selector when I started X-Plane. Disregard this number entirely. Course is used when you prepare for Top of Descent. In the FMC, on the INIT REF page, when you select your flaps setting (always 40), it will give you a course. You enter this value into the course selector, but again, only when in flight, just before Top of Descent.

      @Blaine10024  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to enter your decent altitude into the MCP prior to reaching Top of Descent. In the newer versions of the Zibo Mod, you have to integrate altitude with vertical speed. So for example, if you were supposed to descend to FL240 from FL 330, you would enter 24,000 in the Alt section of the MCP, and then determine what your vertical speed descent rate should be without causing overspeed.
