Warren Moon is a Hall of Fame NFL Quarterback. He was a 9-time Pro Bowl selection and had his uniform number '1' retired by the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans). In 1990 he won the NFL MVP. He finished his NFL career with almost 50,000 yards passing. Only Favre, Mario, Manning and Elway have more.
Before he started his Hall of Fame NFL career, he played in the CFL, winning 5 Grey Cups along the way. He is currently the only player enshrined in both the NFL and CFL Halls of Fame.
Warren's instructional football videos for Pro Tips 4U focus on drills and techniques that can help improve your quarterbacking skills.

I like the fact that Flutie and Moon, to the best of my knowledge, never criticized the CFL. Some players have come up and trashed the league when they left. I dislike that. If they came to the CFL it was to play and improve. They don't need to be grateful, they don't have to be rude either.

@@shondevet2267 They've already made up their minds that anything other than the top 8 teams in the NFL is bush league. I used to go to school with people like that. They boasted that "Any NFL team is better than Canadian. Watch any game." Well, I did, it was the Colts (who were bad at the time). Came back to argue that if that were a "better" team, they need to be much, much better, and the reply was, "You don't watch that team, they're only middle, you watch Oakland."
Granted, that was in the "Glory Days" of the NFL, where a score of 9 - 7 was a brilliantly offensive game. And if I could go back in time to that time, I would have brought up that the rookie Warren Moon had already played five championships and the NFL didn't want him because of his colour. And I would have asked the public school principal at the time, Bernie Custis, to address the racism problems in the NFL.

  • @BrianMarto

It's an arguement that goes back to the dawn of time, two different leagues two different games, I remember Vince Ferragamo signing for Montreal and he could not adjust to the speed of the CFL, the NFL has money, but for me personally the wider and longer field makes the game fun and exciting , Doug Flutie was amazing because he could throw those long bombs down the field, Warren Moon, also , there was Dieter Brock, but players want to play in the NFL for the money for the fame and obviously the recognition, is it a better game depends on what you want to watch, both are great leagues but I will take the CFL .

I love the CFL. It is as exciting as hell. I think what matters most is a close game. I have nothing against the NFL, obviously the players are amazing. But after watching a CFL game which is so wild west with the huge field and amazing passing and like Warren says the ability to score many ways its just amazing one minute to the next. I find the NFLwith huge players on a smaller field just very precise like a surgeon's cut. But for wild excitement the CFL is just crazy. I go to get a beer and in the CFL they scored 2 touchdowns! As for Warren Moon, he is a class act.

Great comments by Warren Moon. I saw an interview with him many years ago and he touched on the CFL ball. The ball now is virtually the same as the US ball but it used to be just a wee bit bigger and had the stripes. He said it made him a better thrower not so much because the ball was ever so slightly larger but because he could easily see how tight his spirals were. He said tightening his spirals made him a more accurate passer which I’d never heard before. Anyone who watched Warren Moon in the NFL knew he was a great passer but if you paid close attention you would also see his spirals were super super tight. He threw a gorgeous ball and he attributed that to playing in the CFL. Great guy, great player (in both leagues) and wonderful ambassador for the game.

My favourite difference is the rules regarding motion. In the CFL you can have multiple players in motion, and they can be running towards the LOS. Jamming a WR is also a lot more difficult, as there it only a single yard window vs five in the NFL. That's why there is only three downs. If you gave teams fours downs with some of those rules, you'd have teams regularly putting up 50+ points.

Currently if you watch a CFL game vs the NFL the big difference, which wasn't like this until some point in the 90s when they all adopted it, is that just about every play except a 2nd or 3rd and 1 QB sneak situation, is done from the shotgun in the CFL now. They almost never line up under center / centre any longer. Sometimes its a bit dumb that they don't do this (like on 2nd and 3 or something like that) but the teams just don't do it any longer.

    • @my3dviews

I watch both leagues. I probably watch every single CFL game, since they don't play two at the same time, due to number of teams. Both are great, but I do prefer CFL rules. Some better players at certain positions in the NFL, of course, because Americans grew up watching and dreaming of playing there for the big bucks and that is their first choice. Hard for me to adjust when I watch the first half of the CFL season and then the NFL starts and it is so frustrating to watch. What a waste of time to have those kick offs that just go through the end zone. They should just give the team the ball to start the game. And those punts that the receiver doesn't even try to catch. GRRRRRR. Other thing I really prefer in the CFL is the clock. Stop time in the final three minutes. Gets rid of the need for all those time outs and you will never have to see the worst play in all of sports, when an NFL quarterback spikes the ball to stop the clock. What the heck is that ??? Looks like intentional grounding to me. Anyways, still like to watch NFL, especially this past season when there was no CFL. Always liked Warren Moon, even though I am a life long Argo fan.

GREAT comments mate. Spot on and those I know (live in the US now but Canadian born and raised) that have given the CFL a chance really enjoy the game. Not saying they prefer it to their NFL and college but have far more respect for it than before I twisted their arm to watch. I wish the game could get on a little better financial footing. They need to be paying those players A LOT more money. They play as rough and tough as NFL players and subject to the same long term injuries. The CFL needs to do a better job marketing and getting high end sponsors so the clubs can pay the players better.

I remember the ill fated US experiment with the CFL, most of the stadiums couldn't fit the regulation end zones, only San Antonio and maybe Baltimore had them, other cities had 15 year ones, Memphis was 9 and half, and when the Stallions played there, the announcer said that "Looks like Fenway Park".
The best thing about it was we were the only US team to be in 2 Grey Cups and win one. And it probably helped get the NFL back to Charm City, before that that town was blackballed by the league. I still root for the Montreal Allouettes because GM Jim Popp is still the final holdover from the Baltimore franchise.

Many former NFL players ( including myself) have stated that any CFL team could easily beat any U.S college team. Back in the 70's and early 80's the CFL in many cases paid more than the NFL. Ask Vince Ferragamo for example. In the 70's I played for the Alouettes and was pursued by the K.C. Chiefs. I turned down the offer as I was making a lot more money in Canada. The talent level was the same. What changed was that the United States broadcast network's bought the broadcast rights to the NFL for millions ( later billions). But as far as game day experience is concerned the CFL is not only a lot more affordable, the games are much more exciting. As far as being affordable the average price for 2 premium NFL tickets including parking is $760.00. The average price for 2 premium CFL tickets including parking is $260.00.
You get a great experience for about $500.00 less.

I don't understand why Canadians think that CFL teams or players could be better than or be competitive with NFL teams or players. It's not even close. The CFL are inferior to the NFL by far. People posting comments on this video keep bringing up names of former NFL players who failed in the CFL implying CFL players are just as good as NFL players. First of all, those players don't represent the entire personnel of the NFL. Secondly, guess what? Those same players were essentially fired in the NFL before they came to the CFL. So their lack of success in the CFL is meaningless to the comparative talk between the 2 leagues. And let's not bring up names from 40 or 60+ years ago as that is meaningless as well.

That "tiny" talent difference shows up in every play and makes a huge difference in game play, 3rd down conversions, redzone success, and in the final score. Have you watched the NFL before other than highlight reels? The NFL is a game of precision and inches. The littlest detail makes the NFL excel and execute at a much higher degree than the CFL. Things like 1 yard passing windows to WRs (CFL is like 6+ yard windows most of the time); 4.3-4.4 speed on DBs as opposed to 4.6-4.7 speed; having 34"arms on the OTs; using proper hand placements on Edges for the OTs; WRs high balling catches; WRs blocking out DBs; DBs using their jabs on man press coverages; etc. There are so many little things the NFL does that the CFL never or mostly never do. Do you even know what an Edge player is? I give up. Successful plays in the CFL aren't even breakdown in coverage. It seems like often it is just a fundamental error like not getting proper footwork or hands on the players. There are wide open guys with 2 yards separation & the CFL QB is still holding onto the ball. Blocks aren't being picked up on blitzes. QB stepping out of the pocket when he shouldn't be. Basic fundamentals are being messed up in the CFL. U don't even know how to watch fundamental errors in the CFL. You know that there are 69 players each team (including practice squad) and there are 32 teams. That's about 2200+ players in the NFL. On a yearly basis, there is 15000+ eligible players from college. All those trash players who can't make an NFL team is what the crappy CFL picks from. And the CFL doesn't even get to recruit the best of the rejects from the NFL. Many of those players just prefer to wait in the US to try out again next year or wait for an injury phone call or just join the XFL or Arena or the other professional leagues in the US. Jeremy I've seen you on every NFL vs. CFL video, and I can honestly say you are very insecure. You are so against American things, yet your profile picture is an MLB (an American sports league, based off an American sport) team's logo, a team that has a majority of American players on it. 1) The NFL was established in 1920. The CFL was established in 1958. So the NFL is older. 2) American football rules (Walter Camp rules) were made in 1878, and made official in 1880. Canadian rules (Burnside rules) were made in 1903, but weren't fully used until the time the CFL was formed (that's another reason why American football is far older and the original tackle football). This is because the rugby union groups in Canada rejected the rules for football (because they preferred rugby), until two rugby union groups in Canada merged and made the CFL. So really, it's as if Canadian football was created in 1958 (59 years old only; 1958-2017). Neither of the two rugby union groups that merged to make the CFL, is older than the Burnside rules (that's more proof for why American football is the original tackle football). Then we have American football which has been around for 140 years, since 1880 (really since 1878; so yes, 140 years). The oldest football leagues were/still are American: NFL, Western Pennsylvania Professional Football Circuit, etc. Canadians like to act as if playing rugby before the Americans somehow "influenced the start of football." That is false. Rugby is British, not Canadian, so inform McGill in Canada and Canada as a whole that they should read a book and that they really didn't create any sports; McGill didn't make football (Canada copied American football), hockey (a copy of Shinty), or basketball (made in Massachusetts). Americans made tackle (and gridiron) football on their own, with their own discoveries, not from Canada. Rugby is not football. Rugby is not Canadian either. Get bent. In the 1820's, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Princeton all started to play their own types of football, similar to what American football is today; Princeton played "Ballown", Harvard played "Bloody Monday", and Dartmouth played "Old Division Football". Yale also started to play their own football in 1840. So really, American football is older than soccer and rugby, too. American football is almost 200 years old (1820-2017 and many more years to come). The NFL is older. American football is older. Youth Sports/Leagues here are older too. Deal with it. Look up Princeton vs. Rutgers 1869. Baseball was made in 1845, in New York, USA. People in Canada don't have proper evidence for why they think baseball is Canadian. Canada played cricket back then, not baseball. They didn't even play rounders in Canada, they played CRICKET (another sport from Britain). But anyway, rounders isn't baseball either. Lacrosse was made by Native Americans in what is modern day USA, not Canada. Stop stealing ideas. #UnoriginalCanadians

    • @gsports629
      @gsports629 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Jeremy The first official Grey Cup occurred in 1958, because that's when actual Canadian football was basically invented (CFL 1958). So there haven't been "104" Grey Cups. There have been around less than 59 legitimate Grey Cups. The NFL title system has been claiming champions since 1920 (Standings, NFL Championship, and Super Bowl, all combined). The NFL title system is older (Standings, NFL Championship, and Super Bowl, all combined). Before 1958, Canadians were playing "Grey Cups" with amateur rugby clubs, and you can find that information online. Not to mention the first paid/pro football leagues/games/players came from the USA in the late 1800s. Walter Camp made the line of scrimmage, the snap, the forward pass, and the down system, as well as the touchdown, and etc, etc, etc. biletnikoffaward.com/fredbiletnikoff An American also threw the first legal forward pass in 1906; he was named Bradbury Robinson. Canadian football didn't allow the use of the forward pass until 1929. Canada didn't even make the the touchdown worth 6 points, until 1958. But the Americans have been using the 6-point touchdown since 1912 (yet another reason for why American football is older). Also, the NCAA and American College Football overall are far older than the CIS/U Sports. The new "U Sports" logo and look are a copy of ESPN U's logo and look. The CFL even admits they copied the NFL, on their own CFL history page. It has also been proved that the Burnside rules of Canada are a copy of the Walter Camp rules (American rules). *I won't be reading your replies, because this isn't my main account. Have fun knowing you'll be replying to a side account, that won't read anything you send back. I'm right. I'm signing out of TH-cam, bye.*

You punt the ball, then you fly down there as fast as you can but you're supposed to somehow judge giving the punt returner a 5 yard cushion while running full speed. However, one rule i love in Canadian footbal is the "onside punt" ... Very exciting play. As long as a player is parallel or behind the punter he can actually catch the punt. You put a guy in motion and let your punter pooch it towards the sidelines...The wide receiver or RB runs full speed and doesn't have to give 5 yards. You can even have your QB punt it on 1st or 2nd down in shotgun formation. Catch your oponent off guard.

how can you prefer the horrible fair catch over the 5 yard rule?? Even worse, the NFL receiver doesn't even have to catch it. He can just start walking off the field and let the ball roll around to a stop. How exciting is that?? With the 5 yard rule, some players will just tackle the guy because it is only a 5 yard penalty, if he has picked the ball up off the ground or a bounce, so if the receiver is a very good one, the penalty is worth it. The only hefty penalty is if you hit him if he is catching the ball in the air. Then it is 15 yards. What's to hate??
