    It's all about the dogs,that's what gives me the buzz,pulling the trigger is only secondary..

    I just came upon your channel. I love it. Your part of Ireland reminds me of how it used to be here in Indiana, USA before the farm equipment got so large that fence rows became a hindrance and have been removed. Our gamebirds struggle for habitat and are pretty much extinct in many areas. I've never had the opportunity to hunt behind dogs. It looks to be great fun. Do you use dogs for hunting rabbits as well? Oh, may I ask what was planted in the lush green field with the yellow flowers? My guess is canola (also called rape in some areas). Great channel, sir!

      Howya Terry,glad you like the channel.Unfortunately here in Ireland in recent years the same devastation has been wrought on the countryside in the name of progress,intensive agriculture has decimated the wildlife habitat,so much so that we have lost 70% of all our native birds in the last 30 years.It's very sad,however I will continue to hunt with my dogs whilst I have the breath to do it.Hunting with dogs is my lifetime passion along with flyfishing,and it is great fun and fulfills a very powerful need.The crop you refer to is indeed oilseed rape,not as good as turnips or sugar beet but sometimes still holds a bird.Also my dogs will hunt rabbits too but their main quarry is birds.Best of luck to you and enjoy the channel.

    how do you guys train pointing dogs in ireland?

    • @springerspanielful
      @springerspanielful  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I train the dog to recall and quarter,the rest comes naturally.

    is there a particular type of whistle that the dogs respond to or will any whistle do?

    • @springerspanielful
      @springerspanielful  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dog, properly trained, will respond to any whistle.

    Hi George, will setter and pointer field trials keep going in Ireland? Grouse are scarce on most mountains in Ireland, younger men are not taking up much setter and pointer trials. Could they change the trials to adapt to the countryside And game situation in Ireland today?

    • @springerspanielful
      @springerspanielful  ปีที่แล้ว

      The number of people participating in trials tells you all you need to know in answer your questions.

    Fantastic hunting from the two dogs there. I watched another video of yours a while back were you had gotten the 2 pups a springer and a pointer. Is this the pointer pup, and how is the little springer Coming on?.

    • @springerspanielful
      @springerspanielful  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were a springer and a setter, both have gone to good hunting homes and are doing very well.

      @@springerspanielful Ah it's a shame you didn't keep them. I was looking forward to seeing the little springer's progression as I have a 6 months old bitch here myself. Still, good to know you got good homes for them anyway. Keep the videos coming and good luck for the rest of the season. Hello from up North by the way 👍

    English Setters....good work.
    The lack blaze orange is conspicuous by it's absence. The UK crowd ridicule the US, but not so funny when a man is shot because not seen(like he was on the other side of that hedgerow). At the very least wear a solid BO hat, because its 360° visible and the highest point on your body. It's called an accident because it's not on purpose.

    • @springerspanielful
      @springerspanielful  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First of all I'm in Ireland not the UK,accidents with firearms are a very rare event here,haven't heard of any for many years.
