    I had the answer right for the arousal question but for a different reason. My take:
    1) the question frames the athlete as having limited skill,meaning not zero skill and not high skill.
    2) as skill increases an athlete will require more stimulus to become aroused.
    Therefore, this athlete's arousal will decrease because they have more than zero skill (more confidence than none, so they will become somewhat excited but not overwhelmed). Replace skill with experience and it helps the idea. An athlete who has a limited experience will become more excited with the same stimulus that barely moves the needle on a pro athlete.

    One confusion on the last question:
    5x2 means 5 sets of 2 reps but you says 2 sets. Clear this out. If sets are 5 then it must be pre season depending on the number of exercises in the same session.

    For that bonus question, why would it not be Pre-season? Since pre-season is sport and movement specific strength and power exercises? If this question was on the exam, what would make the answer choice in-season versus pre-season? Though the volume is lower, couldn't this also be pre-season work or would it have to be of a higher volume? I don't recall there being clearly defined rep ranges for low, med, high volumes in the book?

      You could certainly make an argument for it. 5X2 is really low volume though so I would put it into the in-season and anticipate something like 1X5 bench and 1X5 front squat also in that in-season program.

    For the question regarding the phase of training where power movement should be performed such as 5 x 2, why is it "in season"? Shouldn't the power focus be more towards the end of pre season with the focus on maintenance in the in season especially with a soccer player?

    • @TheMovementSystem
      @TheMovementSystem  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes 5X2 for example could work at the end of preseason or early in season when games aren't as important. When you get to the mid and late season and very important games volume often drops to 1x 3 or 2 x2.

    Hey matt, in question 3 the answer is incorrect because "limited" does not indicate a rate of change by any mathematical convention. The way this question is phrased, any mathmetmatision would say that the question is asking about the slope of a graph where optimal arousal is on the y axis and skill and ability is on the x axis. The correct answer therefore is that the graph will be upward sloping, or (A). If you wanted to phrase the question so that b is still the correct answer, you would have to add a phrase that indicates a negative change in value of skill and ability. For example, "how does optimal level arousal change with an increased limitation in ability", or "how does optimal level of arousal change as skill and ability decrease". Love the content, cheers

    regarding the soccer player question, can you explain why the answer is not pre season? according to the linear periodization in season, also referenced as competition period suggests low volume 1-3 sets with 1-3 reps and the pre season or known as first transition says low volume 2-5 sets with 2-5 reps. just want some confirmation since the suggestions are so similar. thanks so much!

    • @TheMovementSystem
      @TheMovementSystem  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Pre-season has periods of moderate volume. It's "most correct" to select that low volume training is in-season.

      @@TheMovementSystem How can 5 sets of single exercise be low volume when you have the match next day. Is 2 sets not enough for maintainance of power and strength?

    Hey Matt for the soccer player at the end of the video that is doing 5x2 deadlifts. Wouldn't that be preseason. I'm looking at Table 21.2 where it gives 2-5 sets and 2-5 reps under "strength/power".

    • @TheMovementSystem
      @TheMovementSystem  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It actually could be either preseason or in season maintenance depending on the percentages. If it was for example programmed at around a 4-6RM load that would be more likely in season where as if it was 2-4RM load that would be more likely preseason. I should have been more clear on that one
