  • Hey house lovers and explorers! This video we go through 2 classic old Adelaide style character homes, the first one is a 1925 Californian style bungalow also knows as arts and craft style.
It has not been altered other than an upgrade to bathroom with is a nice addition.
The second home was built in 1936 and has a classic 30`s Tudor gable on the facade although the home is not fully tudor it is very much 1930`s style with vintage art deco ceiling and door features.
The owners of the home at some point made some modifications and alterations with changed the layout as you will see.
Both these homes represent the charming inter war period homes here in Adelaide South Australia.
Both of these old beauty`s have now been demolished lost to knew development going up in their place.
Hope you guys and gals enjoy the tours.
    Cheers for watching :-)

I wonder sometimes when a heritage house is still in pretty good shape why aren’t we preserving them? It’s great that you are documenting them. I think, like me, many people would be interested in living in them and fixing them up to heritage standard.
It’s just sad to see another one being pulled down.

The details of these old houses are very beautiful 😍 and such a shame they're demolished for modern day progress!! The ceiling with the rosettes plus the glass globes was awesome! The bathtub like the claw feet are in high demand! It is a great 👍 job of preserving history with your videos & pictures!! Maybe some day you can sell them to the city, provinces or states to show the amazing homes of yesteryear!!! Thanks for sharing these beautiful 😍 homes of the past!!!!!

Nice houses. I would definitely live in one of those, especially liked the second one. I didn’t see anything wrong with that one at all. The little long room on the backside of the living room looks like an addition judging by the chimney extending into it and the fact it seems to cover about half of the driveway. With the ramp in the back I would guess they remodeled the front bedroom and bath to have a walk-in shower for someone with a handicap. It looks like the little section that juts into that bedroom is the linen closet on the opposite side of the wall. That cement bench in the backyard was enormous.

18:30 That wood has only been stripped of paint. It is red cedar & it is light, but there's nothing 'cheap' about it. It was used for it's colour & the fact that white ants hate it.

  • @MrGaryRoberton

The first house has a very authentic feel to it, 30's for sure, the second was similar, but cleverly updated to a more modern format.Lots of little throwaways to the time, firebox art tiles, pediment ceiling treatments, a Pullman kitchen, the floors were original, but in puzzling condition, perhaps had a large area India/oriental carpet or two.I kept hearing Cole Porter's In The Still of The Night, along with your theme, by the California Wampus Kittens~ Cheers!!

The first home was ok. I wondered if there were hardwood floors under that hideous beige carpeting but...too loate now! The second home looks like it held successive generations, as you mentioned Paul. The condition of the floors and the 'rabbit warren' sectioning off of the interior kind of suggests it. What I really liked was it's back yard. Either the mister or missus were really involved in gardening, I think. Thanks for the glimpse of 'Vanishing Victoria' again, mate!

As I recall the wood used for those characteristic door and window trims in California bungalows was of a heavier and darker type than that in the second house, so I'm guessing it was replaced when the house was undergoing alterations. In the original houses I think they used Scots/Baltic pine, but I could be wrong.

I have a very live /hate view of your videos . Love because you are paying respect and documenting all these homes which many obviously where built by people with money a long time ago . My hate relationship with the video’s is with the developers who do not care about history , the opulence of these homes or the memories they hold just greed and profit. So very sad the detail in these homes , the style each has and the quality workmanship which went into all original areas of these homes far surpasses anything you can see on the market today . House number one gave me a melancholy feeling. I've never seen fire boxes configured with the raised ledges on either side before. The people living in it cleaned it up before they left. I suspect the back porch was last and they ran out of time. Developers have no soul. Ripping apart such beautiful historic homes, all for the almighty dollar. The ceilings roses are lovely and classic. Painting them gold is garish and so uncool. Some people have no taste. Another great explore. Thanks for the adventure, take care and stay safe.

It’s so very very sad that we are not saving these old houses as they are apart of our history, even more reason to save them!!

Loved the first house, devastated to see it then half demolished. I really hope someone is salvaging windows, doors, original features, etc.
Second house - didn't like the upgrades the owners did. Kinda wrecked the character. Again hope things are being salvaged.

Land prices have gone through the roof, so sadly the cost of repairing the older homes negates buying.
Love those old fireplaces. The first house is nicer.

Such a shame that people feel the need to tear these homes down
