yea. when I bough the pre-release I KNEW it would be a jumble of mess and I knew it would never run smooth on the switch. Ive got THPS1+2 and tbh, as good as these games looks, I am done with the arcady feel playing in teh same parks over and over and over. I didnt buy session for its look or its music.. I bought it for its crazy expansive maps and to grind a good line while I am on the way to work in the bus for that 1 hour ride, and feel like I am practicing something.
I actually prefer these controls to those of Tony Hawk. I know most people seem to find them more difficult, but for some reason they feel a tad easier to me. Maybe because it's less about button combos and more about just moving the joysticks a certain way. And while the graphics aren't great, the performance on Switch is far better than I expected it to be. This game takes practice, and it won't be for everyone, but I'm loving it.

As a skater all throughout my youth once you get use to the controls it makes perfect sense. Basically if you have a working knowledge of skateboarding physics and use to be a skater this game is the closest in my opinion to the real thing! Love this game!

i dont even play the story mode, i just like to jump on, take a couple hits, hit a few spots, and call it a night lol. the satisfaction of landing tricks makes it worth it lol. i find it very relaxing and worth the money

The controls are the best part of this game. Would you believe if I told you I mess with the settings to make the game even harder than the default setting? Session has been my top played game for a couple of years now.
As a skater I love this game. I think its challenging in the right way. I play on manual catch. even landing a kickflip can be difficult, but thats what makes it awesome. Makes it more rewarding which keeps me coming back.
Session: Skate Sim is an incredibly fun but greatly flawed experience in my opinion! There are many extremely detailed and addicting gameplay features, however the the game has numerous missing/flawed animations and frustrating technical issues that have yet to be addressed so far beyond the initial release. I very much enjoy playing this game and would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a realistic and rewarding skateboarding experience, however the game is far from perfect and has a long way to go to which must be acknowledged. Rating: 7/10

Boy you reamed on this one haha. I think it’s one of my favorite skateboarding games ever made. The satisfaction of detailing a trick and landing your line with perfection just feels so good compared to THPS. This is a better version of Skate IMO. Also, you can turn on pedestrians in the menu (at least in the pc/ps5/xsx versions). Great to hear your perspective nonetheless though! Great content as always.
Completely agree I picked this game up a week ago and started playing on the hardest difficulty and it’s one of the most rewarding games I’ve ever played. Skate 3 is fun to hit crazy gaps and stuff but session is sooooo fun as a realistic experience I love it so much
Session is fun. Played it since early access. There are moving cars in manhattan spots & NPC's is in early experimental stages. They provide you with stats menu unlike Skater XL. You can put it in easy mode for you to grind easier if its too difficult.

I'm one of the 5% I guess! 😄 I really like the Session controls nowadays. However, I recently played Ea Skate 3 and that did not go well at all. Kept doing early grabs all the time. It felt really odd because, I have played a ton of Ea Skate back in the days 😅
Once u get used to controls its a phenomenal skate sim best out by far hard to get used to after arcade skate sims but I been playing since beta and its great very rewarding when you land a sick line
First let me make one small correction: you can have pedestrians in this game. It's in the options menu. You can even adjust the density of the population. The game runs fine as long as you keep the population relatively low, but I ended up turning it off again because I prefer not having to dodge people while pulling off crazy hard tricks. That said, the option is there for those who want it. Overall, though, I think you got it right when you said this game is *meant* to be hard. It's meant to take awhile to learn because it's a skating *simulator,* not an arcade style game. All of the complaints you made about falling and failing more often than not at first are also applicable to real life skating. I'm no skater, but the few times I've tried to learn it involved an awful lot of falling and failing. When I watch videos of your average skateboarder on TH-cam, they often fail a trick multiple times before finally pulling it off. That's just skateboarding. So while it can be frustrating to fall again and again, or to not quite get the angle right on that grind over and over, you keep at it, because the satisfaction when you finally pull off that sick trick/flip/grind is amazing. And this game capitalizes on that by allowing you to go back and look at and record that trick you just pulled off from multiple angles. I've actually been impressed with the accuracy when I rewatch tricks in terms of how the player's feet interact with the board, how the board interacts with the environment, etc. It all makes sense. Yes, the controls are tricky at first. So is real skateboarding. But it's worth it in the end for anyone who enjoys the sport, either as a skateboarder or spectator. The graphics could use a bit of work, but the performance is pretty solid, and that's far more important in a game like this anyway. I'm hooked.
I love this game, it's one of my favorite skateboarding games. I hated it during the Xbox One game preview, but after they released version 1.0 awhile back I fell in love with it. You can mess around with the setting and make it "easier" or at least smoother to pull off tricks, specifically grinds. After you get used to it, it becomes a lot easier to pull stuff off and the control scheme eventually becomes second nature. I'm excited it's on the Switch, I can't wait to pick up a copy for it. Until a few days ago I didn't even know they were porting it to the Switch, here I was waiting for Skater XL to release for it and the game I'd rather play releases first 😂 Edited to mention, if you really love skateboarding and have a little bit of patience it's definitely worth $50. I've spent $70 on it already, $20 for the game preview for Xbox and I bought a copy for PS4 as well, and I will still spend another $50 to have it on the Switch.
As a skateboarder myself I think this game is fantastic, you have to understand they didn’t make this game to make your character look like a model or however you want to make your character look they made this game only for skateboarding that’s why the board pick up animation is horrible but the skating is incredible it makes lots of sense the controls it’s challenging this game and feels like im really skating!
I have it on PC and love the unique controls but I cannot justify the price for switch, so planning to get it either secondhand or if it ever goes on sale 😅 it’s a shame because if loses so much quality in switch, which is to be expected, and it’s amazing that they’ve managed to port it but the impact of visuals on switch is enough to deter me
I'll preface this by saying I put hours into both games on Steam: I prefer Skater XL in terms of controls. Don't care about all of the drama around that game, it's just more fun to play and also still does the sim thing to some degree.

I played this game a couple years ago and was hoping it had lots of updates to make it a more substantial experience. But... it sounds like that was a misplaced hope.
Ever since skate 3 I've been waiting for a game like this, I loved the idea of using the analog sticks to do tricks and I was waiting for something harder. However I'm not sure the game is worth it's price on the switch considering how bad it looks and most reviews saying its got a lot of issues both on the handheld and on a tv... I'm still on the fence wether I should buy it or not

SkaterXL and Sessions are great games. Tried to play Skate 3 again and just can't remember how to play lol. Was on the leaderboards for all 3 but now it's hard to even play any of them which truly sucks.
This is a very informative when it comes to the Nintendo Switch. I was actually excited so I could play it on my way to work on the bus but someone said in another video "fifty dollars is not worth for the low quality". So thank you for making this video. May I suggest you giving it another chance but on PC. It look really dope on PC, it's a lot of fun and a lot more options on the PC version. Now I have to look up if it looks good on the Steam Deck.
Honestly it's not bad looking on the switch the further you are away from the handheld. Honestly I own it on every system now and I am loving it on the switch, and knowing they will update it and the controls aren't bad you just have to adjust them for revert setting, truck tightness and crouch bank-turn then your gold. If you have a issue with the joycon controls I sugge6you buy a "GuliKit" controller off Amazon to help you with the triggers
I think the biggest thing about this game, the stock physics settings blow. If you go in and tinker with it, it feels much more natural! JL Nightmare has a great settings video that just works(once you get used to the turning sensitivity). I think this game is great on Series X. Like you said, you gotta LOVE skateboarding to want this. It’s EA Skate on some level beyond Insane difficulty. But I absolutely love it. It’s a love letter to 1990’s East Coast street skating.
Yeah definitely waiting on a sale, I’ve stuck it out this long already lol. Yeah skating was a huge part of life for me and I like their niche control mechanic too in a challenging way
One of the greatest games! Love it so much! So worth it on pc and ps5. Looks and plays incredibly worse on the switch. One thing I've noticed is that if you skate, you'll love it! Gamers wants to learn things over night. This has a nice challenging feel to it.
i spent $11 for a session steam key on a 3rd party website, and i gotta say at that price it is way more than worth it, i put 8 hrs on skater xl before getting session and for someone looking for realistic physics in a skating game this is perfect, it just needs more content down the line
I've been on the top 10 in the leaderboards for the Skate Series, loved THPS, loved Grind Session, Thrasher Skate and Destroy, Shawn Whites, Andy McDonald's Skate game, you name it, I loved it.. Since I've placed SkaterXL for everything it offers and was so against Session's since it wasn't what I thought it would be from Project Session days of the beta.. let me say since I ended up giving Sessions a try for a period of time. I can't go back to any other game but Session's now because the way you use the control is perfect. I re-downloaded Skate 3 and I can't even remember how to play it anymore going from SkaterXL and Session's. That should say a lot, so let it sink in
I understand what you mean about the trigger turning. I came from skate and skater xl and got used to analog stick turning. After playing session for like 10 or so hours, I actually got really used to the turning. I go back to skater xl and strictly use the triggers now lol. I really recommend raising the pop height and turn off grind "physics." It makes the game a lot more forgiving and way more fun
Skater xl will come out on the switch if u watch there latest trailer the last part of the video is someone playing on a switch doing a nollie tre flip over wallinberg in the game I feel like it will be out sometime this year
The biggest problem with Switch version is that joy-cons don't have analog triggers. On PS5, this game is so great to control that I have a hard time getting back to Skate 3. You can check how to make a trick on youtube and recreate it in the game by moving analog sticks just like you would move legs IRL.

I adjusted some settings on the Xbox version and I enjoy the game more. If I remember correctly, I turned off physics based grinds and lowered the gravity.
As a (former) sk8r myself, I have a love-hate relationship with this game. Got it on Steam maybe about two years ago and the control scheme is so unnatural, yet so “correct”. It’s weird, I’d rather play Skate. It’s not for everyone.
Sounds very similar to Skater XL, the controls are done like that too and even though i have been skating all my life and i understand what they are going for, and it sound decent on paper but its so hard to get used to.
keep trying man, it’s really fun for me. it’s kind of a wonky game but once you get down the base movement really good it’s a ton of fun. also they use custom animations unlike skater xl meaning every time you do a trick it will look and play differently.
As a skater I absolutely love this game. It's challenging. I can start a sesh and spend the whole hour or two at one spot trying to perfect a few different tricks. I think the controls are the best of the three sims(xl and ea being the other two.) But I do agree for a non skater ea or xl are probably better options as the controls aren't as complex.
“This game is a lot of trial and error”, well yea…it’s an actual skate sim. Just like skateboarding, you have to have intentionally plan on what you want to do and think out your foot movements. Its pretty great when you nail a line that you have been trying over and over again
Controls wise session is superior to any other skate game, only using left and right foot- not front and back foot settings- if you don’t like the controls it’s cause you’re bad at them. I was horrible at session but I kept trying & got better. The switch version is butt. The game is bland and empty but the controls are unmatched
I’m just gonna say we deserve Skate 1-3 on the switch. The skate trilogy would be the perfect thing for the switch and the fact it hasn’t happened yet basically makes me lose faith in EA more than I already have.
I bought it. It's ugly. It's a pain in butt to learn the controls. The trigger being a button on the pro controller makes it very hard to steer. You'll often revert when trying to adjust your line up for a trick. That is my biggest issue. Trying to turn and freakin' doing a revert right before a trick.
EA should bring the skate trilogy to modern consoles either each game separately or the three games in one bundle but it would be really nice to see those three again even if it's just a simple remaster instead of remake
Skater XL is the same KINDA , you just have to get used to it , I switched from skate 3 to skater xl and I SUCKED but I kept playing and now I love it!
Sounds like Skater XL n Sessions should've combined their time n budget to make a better game with cooler gear and something to friggin do. Gaining exp by doing the same trick multiple times, grinds get easier to go longer by doing longer grinds, spinning 180/360 gets easier etc then unlocking sick gear by skating different spots that riders of certain teams have filmed tricks at. For God sakes there's so much potential for this genre of skate simulation and no one can get a decent grip on it.
If you are a skater. It’s the best skating ever created. Simple as that. If you are not a skater but you enjoyed games like THPS and EA skate, you will hate this game. Because this games demands you to become better through failing. Just like real skating.
I think your problem may lay within the complicated nature of skateboarding itself and the fact the game did a good job emulating it. Also not having npc pedestrians is such an odd complaint for a skateboarding game

This is the dark souls of skateboarding games. Skate is a bit easier but this looks so awesome. Like finally beating a boss in dark souls

3D skateboarding games just seem dead now
I played this game a couple years ago and was hoping it had lots of updates to make it a more substantial experience. But... it sounds like that was a misplaced hope.

I have this game on Steam and it’s great. This is always wanted in a skate game. For me it’s almost perfect - maybe a story mode would be nice 👍
Ever since skate 3 I've been waiting for a game like this, I loved the idea of using the analog sticks to do tricks and I was waiting for something harder. However I'm not sure the game is worth it's price on the switch considering how bad it looks and most reviews saying its got a lot of issues both on the handheld and on a tv... I'm still on the fence wether I should buy it or not

RGT85: I'm not a Nintendo Switch TH-camr, but I'm only reviewing this game on switch and not steam, PlayStation or Xbox which it's been out for a while. It's not an arcade game it's a simulation game.
SkaterXL and Sessions are great games. Tried to play Skate 3 again and just can't remember how to play lol. Was on the leaderboards for all 3 but now it's hard to even play any of them which truly sucks.
This is a very informative when it comes to the Nintendo Switch. I was actually excited so I could play it on my way to work on the bus but someone said in another video "fifty dollars is not worth for the low quality". So thank you for making this video.
May I suggest you giving it another chance but on PC. It look really dope on PC, it's a lot of fun and a lot more options on the PC version.
Now I have to look up if it looks good on the Steam Deck.
Honestly it's not bad looking on the switch the further you are away from the handheld. Honestly I own it on every system now and I am loving it on the switch, and knowing they will update it and the controls aren't bad you just have to adjust them for revert setting, truck tightness and crouch bank-turn then your gold. If you have a issue with the joycon controls I sugge6you buy a "GuliKit" controller off Amazon to help you with the triggers
Actually got it on switch and on pc of course pc is superior but switch is quite fun if you’re in you’re bed or on a trip
I think the biggest thing about this game, the stock physics settings blow. If you go in and tinker with it, it feels much more natural! JL Nightmare has a great settings video that just works(once you get used to the turning sensitivity). I think this game is great on Series X. Like you said, you gotta LOVE skateboarding to want this. It’s EA Skate on some level beyond Insane difficulty. But I absolutely love it. It’s a love letter to 1990’s East Coast street skating.
I don't think you should have checked out the official release of the game on the Switch first.

Yeah definitely waiting on a sale, I’ve stuck it out this long already lol. Yeah skating was a huge part of life for me and I like their niche control mechanic too in a challenging way
One of the greatest games! Love it so much! So worth it on pc and ps5. Looks and plays incredibly worse on the switch. One thing I've noticed is that if you skate, you'll love it! Gamers wants to learn things over night. This has a nice challenging feel to it.
Can you not set the controls to legacy on Switch? Basically Skate 3 controls for those who prefer that. You can on PS5. Honestly just curious.

i spent $11 for a session steam key on a 3rd party website, and i gotta say at that price it is way more than worth it, i put 8 hrs on skater xl before getting session and for someone looking for realistic physics in a skating game this is perfect, it just needs more content down the line
There’s a setting where u can put pedestrian but I wouldn use it cuz it slowers the game play to where it’s almost unplayable

I've been on the top 10 in the leaderboards for the Skate Series, loved THPS, loved Grind Session, Thrasher Skate and Destroy, Shawn Whites, Andy McDonald's Skate game, you name it, I loved it.. Since I've placed SkaterXL for everything it offers and was so against Session's since it wasn't what I thought it would be from Project Session days of the beta.. let me say since I ended up giving Sessions a try for a period of time. I can't go back to any other game but Session's now because the way you use the control is perfect. I re-downloaded Skate 3 and I can't even remember how to play it anymore going from SkaterXL and Session's. That should say a lot, so let it sink in

I understand what you mean about the trigger turning. I came from skate and skater xl and got used to analog stick turning. After playing session for like 10 or so hours, I actually got really used to the turning. I go back to skater xl and strictly use the triggers now lol. I really recommend raising the pop height and turn off grind "physics." It makes the game a lot more forgiving and way more fun
Skater xl will come out on the switch if u watch there latest trailer the last part of the video is someone playing on a switch doing a nollie tre flip over wallinberg in the game I feel like it will be out sometime this year

Once you get a hang of the controls this game is insanely good. Only current problem is the lack of updates consistently.

I was gifted a Blind Reaper deck for Christmas that I snapped the tail off that day! Crazy.
The biggest problem with Switch version is that joy-cons don't have analog triggers. On PS5, this game is so great to control that I have a hard time getting back to Skate 3. You can check how to make a trick on youtube and recreate it in the game by moving analog sticks just like you would move legs IRL.
I find it amazing how this was the game in which Grind King Trucks would make it's return on.
I loved Trasher Skate and Destroy. I give session as a spiritual successor to that.

@emilio olivas I have been playing session with manual catch on the Xbox and seriously considering getting it for the Switch! Imagine if Rockstar just dropped a new Thrasher with everything they have learned with GTA since then. Best skateboarding game ever!!
I adjusted some settings on the Xbox version and I enjoy the game more. If I remember correctly, I turned off physics based grinds and lowered the gravity.
As a (former) sk8r myself, I have a love-hate relationship with this game. Got it on Steam maybe about two years ago and the control scheme is so unnatural, yet so “correct”. It’s weird, I’d rather play Skate. It’s not for everyone.
I have always preferred these kind of skate controls over Tony hawk.

Game is great, I own it on Ps5 as well as switch now but it's switch what you expect with dated hardware? Does it play better on ps5 100%.

This is the same control scheme for Skater XL. I’ve played Skater XL on PC and Xbox and I’ve not had any issues playing it.
Kinda reminds me of thrasher for playstation. Was so hard at first but once u got good at it it was amazing

Sounds very similar to Skater XL, the controls are done like that too and even though i have been skating all my life and i understand what they are going for, and it sound decent on paper but its so hard to get used to.
keep trying man, it’s really fun for me. it’s kind of a wonky game but once you get down the base movement really good it’s a ton of fun. also they use custom animations unlike skater xl meaning every time you do a trick it will look and play differently.
Oh, and on the Xbox I’m pretty sure you can set the controls up so it feels like skate
As a skater I absolutely love this game. It's challenging. I can start a sesh and spend the whole hour or two at one spot trying to perfect a few different tricks. I think the controls are the best of the three sims(xl and ea being the other two.) But I do agree for a non skater ea or xl are probably better options as the controls aren't as complex.
“This game is a lot of trial and error”, well yea…it’s an actual skate sim. Just like skateboarding, you have to have intentionally plan on what you want to do and think out your foot movements. Its pretty great when you nail a line that you have been trying over and over again
Controls wise session is superior to any other skate game, only using left and right foot- not front and back foot settings- if you don’t like the controls it’s cause you’re bad at them. I was horrible at session but I kept trying & got better. The switch version is butt. The game is bland and empty but the controls are unmatched

I’m just gonna say we deserve Skate 1-3 on the switch.
The skate trilogy would be the perfect thing for the switch and the fact it hasn’t happened yet basically makes me lose faith in EA more than I already have.
I bought it. It's ugly. It's a pain in butt to learn the controls. The trigger being a button on the pro controller makes it very hard to steer. You'll often revert when trying to adjust your line up for a trick. That is my biggest issue. Trying to turn and freakin' doing a revert right before a trick.
EA should bring the skate trilogy to modern consoles either each game separately or the three games in one bundle but it would be really nice to see those three again even if it's just a simple remaster instead of remake
Skater XL is the same KINDA , you just have to get used to it , I switched from skate 3 to skater xl and I SUCKED but I kept playing and now I love it!
Sounds like Skater XL n Sessions should've combined their time n budget to make a better game with cooler gear and something to friggin do. Gaining exp by doing the same trick multiple times, grinds get easier to go longer by doing longer grinds, spinning 180/360 gets easier etc then unlocking sick gear by skating different spots that riders of certain teams have filmed tricks at. For God sakes there's so much potential for this genre of skate simulation and no one can get a decent grip on it.

If you are a skater. It’s the best skating ever created. Simple as that. If you are not a skater but you enjoyed games like THPS and EA skate, you will hate this game. Because this games demands you to become better through failing. Just like real skating.

I think your problem may lay within the complicated nature of skateboarding itself and the fact the game did a good job emulating it. Also not having npc pedestrians is such an odd complaint for a skateboarding game
they had so much music but they removed all the good music that would have made them rated M for ESRB because they had curse words
don't hate the game, hate the switch. crea-ture obviously did what they could with the hardware provided. I'm just glad to see such an amazing skate game on a portable system.
