I have had the pleasure of seeing the Gulbenkian collection in Lisbon. Thank you for this fascinating story about the man himself.

To me, one of the most admirable things, seen, that a foreigner has done to Portugal is Mr. Gulbenkian very generous donation left to this country, to which I am deeply and sincerely grateful for (may the heavens keep rewarding you, Mr. Gulbenkian 🙏🏽🙃, always very treasured by me) yet I don't know what made him to make up his mind in doing so, I'd love to very much indeed. The one thing I know is that short after his arrival to Portugal he lived some hand full of unpleasant experiences.

Because Portugal did not take sides in WWII

He didn't donate it to Portugal, he just wanted to create international foundation in Portugal because of low taxes. But he passed away and didn't create foundation. Salazar stole it from family, made new law to create foundation and took everything. Kevork Essayan helped to do that. So, what belongs now to Portugal was robbed, how i say.

@@jezelen So, Salazar stole it by keeping Gulbenkian's name linked and attached to it and at the same time allowed Gulbenkian descendants to run it... is this some sort of an attempt to cut the "punishment" for one's crime / sin in half?

It wasn’t Churchill who decided it was time to convert from coal to oil, although with his ego he probably hogged the credit.
The man who ran British Naval forces had that particular foresight.

An interesting story of an Ottoman-Armenian. Today when Turks talk about redlines, may be they are referring to what Gulbenkian drew

He literally stole the oil on Ottoman lands using his position and knowledge while cooperating with imperialist anglophones on their agenda of invasion and dissolution of Ottoman Empire. Funny that Armenians go ahead and make up crazy claims, demands and accusations after all 😂
