    I didn't understand the measuring system of 'edge to bit' + 'full diameter of the bit' until I realized this is a rabbet video and not a dado video.

    Just started building this week and bought this router per your video. Thank you for making things easy, real cool watching your big shop videos.

    Ok, this is exactly what was looking for. A simple method that works fine, without exotic jigs that I would use once or twice in my life.

    Thanks! Watching this gave me confidence that I could cut several Rabbets with my Palm Router.

    I just finished building the handrail on my deck th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z and used this great little router to clean up the top rail before the final sanding and stain. It was light weight but packed lots of power. Either size battery didn't seem to make it top heavy and I'm a 64 yr old women so I really appreciated how easy it was to use...................... CORDLESS only way to go !!

    Thanks for a great, concise video. Short and to the point unlike so many others. Plus the armpit hair and chicken nugget comments add a little humor. 😂.

    If you have a slightly smaller bit, it's still ok to cut this way, just have to do it in two passes. BTW, I have exact same palm router ... Makita did a great job.

    Do you ever run into your router bit accumulating burn marks and becoming dull quickly with this? If not what router bit do you suggest for dado cuts?

    • @dustylumberco
      @dustylumberco  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Definitely gotta keep sharp bits and move at the right speed but I still get a burn spot here and there. I use Freud straight bit for dados

    In the video you say to use an 18mm router bit, can you point me to the Freud bit? I'm trying to figure out what bit to make a 3/8 in dado (birch plywood is 3/4" baltic)

    A little confusing with the measurements all because it is for rabbet cut and not dado cut. But thanks anyway.

    Looked for that clamp unit as you call it but cant find one maybe its the name lol , I even looked on tools dusty uses on Amazon but still no clamp unit , could you share the real name or maybe a link for it ? the clamp is just as important if not more than the router bit buddy ..

    I have a question about routing plywood for a T-Track, the plywood has knots in it which I cannot avoid in my design. Without having to pay for premium plywood (that is pretty much Knotless) but twice the expense $$ how do you suggest getting a clean cut through knots in the wood or am I dreaming and it can't be done?

  • @creativechimp03

    This is great thanks. If I wanted to do a load of grooves in some boards for a shiplap effect do I run the router left to right across the board or right to left? Thanks

    That’s a rabbit or rebate. Not a dado

    • @dustylumberco
      @dustylumberco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s rabbet not rabbit and they are cuts on the edges. When it’s in the middle of a board it’s called a dado or groove. However some people call them rabbets (not rabbit) or rebates and who really cares 🤷‍♂️ as long as the message is communicated it’s a pretty silly thing to argue about

    • @dustylumberco
      @dustylumberco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will depend on the router, the bit and the wood. Hard to know in each and every situation

    What happens when your 18mm plywood is 17.5 mm wide (it happens). Now you're a half armpit hair off. 🤣Give me an adjustable dado jig that allows routing to the exact size of the wood any day. How do you like your Makita palm router?

      a rabbet or rebate on the edge of a board, a groove or dado is inside the workpiece somewhere
