Good comparative review. The Jinhao is an excellent pen for its price and a good writer. Thanks for the video.

It's just a shae Jinhao only make an ef nib for that pen. I'd love it with a B nib.

Parker gifted the Chinese with a complete set of its equipment, tooling, etc, so I'm not sure 'copy' is a fair charge for Parker fans to make. Not only is the 85 a more compelling option, Jinhao also made improvements on the 51 with its pump vacuumatic filling system on the 601a.

Great review! I have thought about purchasing the 51 but with the price difference makes the Jinhao more practical.

There's always the complaints about "copies," but as I had my Jinhao 85 in hand before the reimagined 51 came out, you have to wonder who made the copy this time...🤔
Put a "Bobby" nib in the 85 for around $2.50 USD, and it's a great pen, especially for the price.
Both are really no comparison to the original Parker 51, IMO. And this is coming from someone who is not necessarily the biggest fan of the original, either. (Fairly boring writer, and I despise the aerometric fillers in general. Heresy, I know. 😁) Parker's reissue has a similar shape to the original, but that's really about it. I think that I'd compare the new version to more of the Parker 21 in regards to build quality, and the steel nibbed version? MAYBE the 51 Special, at best, though the new version still just seems like Parker either assembled the prototype out of the scrap parts bin, and put it into production, or really just gave up in trying to truly make a real homage.
And the price. The original 51, at today's money, new, would be around $150, with a gold nib (which is kind of a waste on a hooded nib, IMO, but it's what the higher end pens all used in the past.) $100 USD above this, for the new version with a gold nib, and it still feels like it was made of scrap parts, to me. When reimagining an iconic item, there should be more attention to detail, IMO.
When comparing, the two (new 51 and the 85) both don't really compare to the original 51 (again, this is from someone who is not a big fan of the original, even.) Compared to the original, and the 85, the new 51 is like a Harley Davidson from the 1970s. You're really just paying for the name, more than anything else. Like you said, you want a Parker, get it. You want one that is much cheaper, and still has a good build quality? Get the 85. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on them!

In comparison between both which one is best??

The Wing Sung 601 is almost an exact replica of the 51. Much better than either of these.

I like the 601. But I had too many bad experiences with the original rubber vac system for me to continue using them

@@theoffstageme I have 3 of them (black barrel/metal cap, stainless steel, and a 601a). I have been pleased with all of them.

Thanks much, I cancelled the 2 P51 teal FP[worth 200$ and the the P51 plum gold 18k [199.00] and bought 8 Jinhao FP 51 and retro 86[4 pcs---->just cost me under 60$ instead of spending 400 plus $...I owned 1 Jinhao I remembered 5 years ago but misplaced it. I remember it was good for $2.00 each.

should have compared it to the jinhao 51A its much more like the jinhao 51a than the 85 at least the old one is the new one might be more close to the 85 I dont like that you have to twist to uncap thats just erks me like why why did you have to do that parker ... really like you couldnt just ... ugh ... it makes me so mad when people " remake " a fountain pen with their so called " modernizations" there was nothing wrong with the old model and they change it ... anyway great review thank you for all the hard work you do on these videos :) MMD

I honestly am not sure why they bothered to ‘remake’ the Parker. I agree the Jinhao 51A is closer (except that awful clip), but the point of this wasnt to compare the closest copy, it was to show two pens that came out around a similar time. When the 2021 Parker came out there was a lot on Social Media saying it’s just the Jinhao 85 and that they were the same pen. So I thought it interesting to show these two next to each other

I hated the Jinhao 51a and gave it away. It looked reasonably attractive but had a horribly scratchy nib.
