- I've been wearing all black, avant-garde, and minimalist (ish) clothes for over 3 months - a capsule wardrobe evolution, after 30+ years of wearing hypercolor/clowncore vibes. Here's why I wear all black, and how it's going so far.

I'm a fellow queer, former "clowncore" fashion dork who's slowly transitioning into soft "business goth" and it's definitely made me feel so much more confident as I've gotten older!
Regardless of how you dress, I really appreciate your attention to sustainability and responsible designers!
I love your videos and your music from back in the day! Sending you love and hugs from Portland, Oregon!!
💜💜💜
Omg “soft business goth” 🥲 love that lol. Thx for the continued support over the years! What spawned your style transition from clowncore to biz goth ™️?
@@b3naquaPrimarily my career transition from the service industry to healthcare after I obtained my master's degree. Seeing patients with severe health concerns while I'm dressed like a 00s hipster clown feels insensitive and tone deaf at best, so I try to show up to work looking "professional," but still in line with my personal style. Also, wearing mostly black helps me feel more confident with my almost 40 (!) year old dad bod lol!
What you're wearing in this video is how I remember you being dressed when I met you (in college). You've come full circle. 🖤
We do truly live in the matrix and it’s such a gorgeous cyclical illusion 🔮 do you want all my color clothes lol
@@b3naqua I accept hand-me-downs....
Wow you have some really cool pieces.. I started wearing all black at the start of 4th quarter of this year.. I like my black plain and simple but I like the challenge of styling all black.
Interesting! What made you start wearing all black?
As a female I actually have done this. I feel so free to express myself.
@@maritzaortiz7619 Yasss love to hear it 👏🏼 it really does open up some new dimensions in our wardrobes!
He has converted hehehe it looks really great man! I love this new look on you. I really enjoyed your fashion journey! Just by looking at the pictures I can tell that you seem more confident in the new wardrobe for sure. Can't wait to see how your current style evolves.
Lmao thank you 🙏🏼 you’re def a big inspo on this journey from clown to matrix vampire ™️
I love Y3 and this new chapter in your life! It’s a new interpretation of our alien nature. I definitely get it, my fellow global denizen!
yasssss love what you said about new interpretations of our alien nature 👽 it really does feel like a fun new chapter! I love your style too btw 👌🏼
Probably gray scale with some Color accents , beanie and shoes is a solid way to wear dark colours for ever, I personally love selvedge denim so to me dark blue selvedge jeans are pretty much a must
good tips! might try incorporating some color eventually. we shall see 👌🏼
Great video! And i totally understand your journey! Almost the same on my side… but i have gradually added back some colors with time, but i mostly wear black.
Thanks! What made you start to add color back into your wardrobe after moving towards mostly black?
@@b3naqua That’s a great question! I guess summer time inspired me to wear a splash of color here and there! Also because some color against black will pop a lot and bring a different vibe! But i always go for only one color with black.
@@darkovinster2754 that’s a rly good point! Wearing even one small garment or accessory can really make it pop on an all black outfit 👌🏼
Just out here living my best matrix vampire lyfe ™ PS: Join my Discord! discord.gg/KMRBMUv3mh
Those Y3 shorts are fire
Yeah they’re luxe af feeling. Highly recommended 👌🏼
🖤😎
thx for watching Brandon!
Hi Ben, always interesting to watch your videos.
You can probably guess that I am quite a bit older, but your new look does come across as more mature and professional, at least in my mind. Be careful though because too much of one thing can push a person into a dark place and that is self destructive.
As far as fabrics, i only wear cotton or wool because of how they feel and breathe, but I don't own any high end stuff either.
The one downside is that it is very difficult for older drivers to see you in all black, especially at night or raining. So you will need to be much more cautious around cars and assume that they didn't see you vs before it was obvious.
When I am wearing darker clothes, I wear a very light jacket to enhance visibility. Sorry for the long comment but I don't want you to get injured in the winter and darkness.
Take care
Thanks for your insight & concern! You make a really good point about night visibility. It's definitely something I consider, esp. when walking my dogs. I try to wear athletic pieces with reflective material at night - I even sewed a thin, all-reflective harness/vest thing for night walks. I agree to assume drivers can't see me at night, so I'm extra cautious!
Wool/cotton/natural fibers seem to be the way to go, esp in hot areas like Texas. I've reduced the amount of synthetic fabrics a ton recently in my closet purge, focusing more on breathable & oversized cotton & linen pieces, since the climate here is super hot.
@@b3naqua The other night I saw a lady walking two dogs with led light collars. I actually saw them long before I saw her and she was right at an intersection. My eyes are pretty decent but she was dressed in dark clothing and there weren't any lights
@harryniedecken5321 maybe I should wear an led collar too 🙃
🖤🖤🖤
