    The real reason they switched to laser etched is costs.
    They make it sound cool, but at the end of the day, the laser etched version * is not * Damascus.
    Any idiot can laser etch a steel teaspoon and call it "laser etched Damascus"...but it don't make it Damascus.

    i wish we could buy replacement plates. i have burnt titanium ridge for 3 years now and even though i tried to keep it scratch free for a LONG TIME it’s inevitable and eventually you just throw your wallet and keys in the same pocket & what was once a really good looking wallet looks aged and an expensive paperweight. why can’t ridge sell replacement plates for half the price of the wallet so that way we can give our wallet new life and they don’t lose money from people buying a cheaper aluminum wallet only to buy the expensive plate for less money. i’m sure ridge can come up with a reasonable price for existing users. besides it’s a great selling point to from a business standpoint.

    • @JsBlazIN
      @JsBlazIN 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed and only offer the replacement parts for existing customers and not new customers so they don't loose out on those profits because i feel like most of us understand the quality and don't mind spending over $100 for a wallet the first time but having to spend that again just for new looking side plates most of us will just not do it and rather just leave it as is or buy a cheaper knock off.

      That's why stainless steel is the optimal type of The Ridge wallet to buy. It has the highest shear modulus, which is a fancy way of saying it's more scratch-resistant. Literally almost twice as hard to scratch as your wallet (77 vs 40 GPa). If I didn't care about the shear modulus I'd have bought 24 karat gold, but realistically I'd have to cover it with a phone screen protector because it scratches so easily.

      The real Damascus one will chip more easily than the stainless steel engraved one, but because the engraved one is an engraving, it's possible the engraving could get worn down whereas the real Damascus steel one is a flat surface. However the Damascus steel one can also rust and is no longer available, meaning you'd have to buy it second-hand and lose the benefit of the warranty.

Saw an ad on instagram that they were in stock so I just ordered it. didn't look close at the description cause I already had. The description on their website mentions nothing about a change and says nothing about "etched stainless" only in the specifications does it say material 304 stainless which I didn't see at the time. I received the wallet and knew instantly I'd been duped. Waiting to hear back from customer service now about what they are going to do about it. I'm very disappointed.
