That's the advantage of somebody with skills that are also usable outside of politics. They do not have to care about getting out the most money, they are not dependent on sucking up to their own party in order to keep lucrative jobs within the party etc.

While I agree with Fortuño that most of his changes needed to be made, I have two observations: (1) when the photos of 3 governors whom the reportage blame for the increase the debt it only show the 3 that belong to the PPD and fail to show 2 that belong to the Governor party, the PNP, For example, Pedro Rosselló whose under his administration many department secretary and high official went to jail for stealing federal money as well as having increased the debt the most. (2) I noticed that when the Governor Fortuño mentions how he is helping businesses he never mentions small businesses, only American corporations which are considered foreign corporations in PR.

I agree that unions have become corrupt but u need there presence as a marker or safeguard. They set the wages for the private sector, if u don’t private corps will not willingly offer benefits and livable wages to the workers. You could clearly see this in the southern states of the US. When I moved to the south it was apparent the clearly had no regard for labor laws and were paying half the wages that weren’t livable. I didn’t stay there long. We do need less government but strict labor laws.

So govt ordering business to pay what it wants is good. Nonsense. Big govt is the problem, not the solution. The southern economy was not higher paid manufacturing jobs for most of its history. So lower wages when agrarian. I grew up in the south so I remember the low wages. But it would never had persisted as people would and did move. Remember that Federal wages laws covered interstate commerce only. Of course, most states did wind up following the Fed rules. But to imagine that only govt can fix the problem is silly

Too much government.. Is a vampire... When you need to work 2 days a week to pay tax on your income.. And a 3rd day just to keep your home and car and pay the hidden taxes.. We should have a low flat tax.. Amd force government not to over spend

why would he reduce the corporate tax rate? I don't understand that.

Because corporations help economies grow and taxes don't all they do is feed the government... The government gets bigger, it spends more and what they are happy to receive today, they will expect in double tomorrow. That kind of tax is bad for employment. If they could lift government off their shoulders like Chile, Estonia, and Hong Kong they might be better off than the rest of us here in a few years...

I remember when I checked out of the army that I had to go through a maze of women sitting in a large room behind dozens and dozens of large desks knitting and gabbing. After being sent from desk to desk to get my papers stamped I finally had their permission to leave. I never forgot that day. What a joke! Except to the American taxpayers who had to show up every day to make a living for their families and these leaches.

If the US took every dime from all the billionaires and millionaires they wouldn't have anything left in 3 months. The answer isn't raising the taxes on the rich but reducing spending. We all have to live within our budget, so must any government.

If Greece took these unpopular dufficult steps they probably would not have gone bankrupt. Margaret Thatcher did the sane things to save England from Bankruptsy (spelling?). It was very difficult for average people but it would have been worse if their country went Bankrupt.
