Don't forget the strike also has to do with how the studios are keeping the writers out of streaming profits while their traditional source of income is drying up because people don't watch TV or go to the movies as often anymore but instead stream.
This is bigger than just the actors and the writers. For one, I don't think I can fall in love with a tv series or a movie that is written by AI because AI can't truly write emotions. I also wouldn't want to support any type of work that is just that damn lazy! To top it off, I am working a studio internship doing VFX and 3D work, and I am a few semesters away from having my bachelor's degree in doing 3D, animation, and visual effects for the motion picture, tv, and video game industries and I see the use of AI slowly creeping into those areas as well, which will depreciate the value of the job and lower the ranks on the talent needed, and in some cases, the quality of things as well. Don't get me wrong... we know that the cat is out of the bag... The lamp got rubbed and the Genie came out... I think of AI more as a tool and that is ALL that it ever should be thought of as... not something that you just hand off an ENTIRE production to. If Hollywood goes 100% automated, then I understand that I am out of a career as well. If the actors don't work, then somewhere along the line, it will break the connection between their art and those of us who work on the backend of a production. I can not support the content of a "Lazy Hollywood". I stand with SAG-AFTRA!
Finay someone with a brain. I'm 17 learning to be a programmer and love tech, but Ai is just ridiculous. And it's disturbing how accurately it is able to MIMIC human emotion, while Stull being a emotionless machine
Good for them, more should follow. If there's no reforms done to adapt to AI then we're headed towards a future where as much as 45% of jobs are on the chopping block in the 20-25 year range. This basically means that you have a massive class of completeely poor unemployable people and the rest of the workers are paid peanuts, have absurd hours and no worker rights because they will have to compete with the profit margins of encroaching automation and the fact that in such conditions there's always going to be someone a lot more desperate willing to do the same for less. Basically, as technology advances economic systems gain and lose validity. Capitlaism is no different. It's a steam age system that has base logistics that simply cannot operate in the digital, networked, age of biotechnology, AI, global logistics and labor markets and additive manifacturing. Retaining it past it's lifespan will only result in the devolution of our society from democracy (albeit corrupt) into totalitarian/oligarchic corporate neo-feudalism. Thus we should not defend or retain an economic model, the way we fill out a spreadsheet, as if we have loyalty to it like it's a religion. It's a tool, and like any other tool when it's outdated it has to be replaced. And whetever will come after capitlaism is not permanent either as it too will be replaced as technology keeps advancing.
I work in telecoms and my company is chomping at the bit to introduce AI in every aspect of its interaction with customers. Then they will be able to lay off all the bill paying human beings they currently employ.
@@insertnamehere5146 I've seen the estimations and I am seeing the innovations that are down the line in my field (agricultural engineering) If we don't replace our current economic models we will have an extremely paradoxical and volatile state of productive capacity being way above demand but there being no economic prospect for a decent life for a massive amount of people.
@@SP-qi8ur There's many options An immediate (but not ideal) solution that could be implemented relatively quickly is market socialism (replacing private corporations with worker co-operatives) However it's still reliant on a market system and as such inherits it's flaws, thus it useful as a stopgap but is not a long term solution in the face of climate change and automation. A good long term solution would be decentralized post monetary resource based economics. Though I doubt we can move from capitalism directly to that(because we've seen throughout history that those in power in one system would rather spill rivers of blood than lose power). This unfortunately means that the only scenario where capitalism directly moves to RBEs (meaning an immediate depowermebt of the current feudal elite) is after a catastrophic system failure of capitalism at the hands of mass unemployment from automation. Hot take: I'd rather we took preventative steps and initiated a system swap without having to go through such a horrific historical phase. Thus the need for a temporary buffer system that has less centralized economic power that will gradually remove the power of our feudal lords and create a more equitable system. In part this can be aided with new deal style reforms but to make it work you need to move to market socialism and aid co-ops to outperform corporations and finally overtake them. At that point a system swap to RBEs is realistic without the treat of violent retaliation against the people. hence market socialism being a good 2-6 decade intermediate step towards resource based economics.
The average American does not care. Entertainment has become a minefield and a pain in the neck. We don't need them to carry on. Soo many older movies that had interesting stories that need re-viewed.
Writers have systematically destroyed every single thing I’ve ever been a fan of from game of thrones, Witcher, and Wheel of Time to Star Wars. Now they’re mad a literal machine can write better!? Sucks to suck I guess
Write better? That's not what they are mad about, they are mad that AI is trained on human work, and can copy-paste people's work without people getting compensated. Because the AI programs were copy-pasting their work. Sometimes with 0 modification or like a 1% modification of their work and then people were trying to make profit from it or sell people's styles and pieces thinking the AI created it when really the AI stole it. And as the artists got more and more upset, these fintech monsters decided "Stealing art is not enough, let's steal writing, personal documents, business documents, voices from people to use for AI music producing programs (Unique artists who are recognized by their voices can and do get their voices stolen to produce AI music), etc.... "Star Wars" was created by George Lucas, who is a career cinematic writer-director. "Game of thrones" TV show got consistently high ratings and praise from all quarters, unless you are referring to the maligned last season of the show.
Your problem is how will the viewers be impacted Well, the viewers can cancel their subscriptions and find other ways of killing time. The problem are not the viewers but the workers who create all the shows and films that kept you all sane during the pandemic when you were locked in your homes. The problem is that the people who create these shows and movies make almost nothing, can not afford health insurance, are 40--50 years old and have roommates, but the studios get billions in revenues and the CEO's make tens of millions in salary yearly. Ask the right question and stop trying to undermine the issue. Next can be you, the TV host. Scan you, pay you for a day and send you home forever as they can generate your look and use it forever without paying you a penny.
People can read books instead. What writers and actors don’t seem to understand is that ultimately the “entertainment product” they offer is replaceable.
@@Sam-mp1cr would you have said the same in the lockdown period? Today you can have an AI software write you a book, your news, edit a video such as TH-cam, news, shows or film. AI and new robots can replace almost everybody from cleaners, restaurant hosts, bankers, in some cases doctors, accountants, engineers and so on. So yes, everybody can be replaced which I believe is the end game as it is cheaper, so bigger profits. But do you want to read a book written by a machine, see a show or film made with no feelings or human context? So ultimately, you can be replaced. I don’t know what job you have but I bet that a robot won’t put the passion you put. The only thing is that the robot will work cheaper than you. A different perspective, right? It is not about the actors actresses screen writers directors(film industry)only the issue here it is all about robat AI is taking over jobs in all fields of the work force = you could lose whatever job you have to a robot - AI at any moment.Unless you're a student with no guarantee to find a job after graduation of whatever skills you have or you live in a social safety net even that might not be available in the near future, the whole world specially in US and in Europe there are going to be worst economic crisis or I should say many more demonstrations similar to the Hollywood demonstrations you are looking at the moment are going to happen in everywhere.

Given the kind of rubbish Hollywood regularly churns out now days I can’t fault that statement.
I absolutely do not care about these elites
Don't forget the strike also has to do with how the studios are keeping the writers out of streaming profits while their traditional source of income is drying up because people don't watch TV or go to the movies as often anymore but instead stream.
This sounds like it could be a pivitol trend for the movie & television industry.
Wow! At least temporary relief from the garbage spewing forth from these two groups!
May be in coming 5 years someone might make robotic heart and brain like human and then they can feel the emotions too (some kind of software I mean)

I'm rather glad on days like this when this kind of non-news is the main headline news. Things could be so much worse.
Joke's on you, corporate overreach and politicians not taking any steps because they're paid not to is not just an entertainment-industry problem.
OK, all together now:
"We're rich! We're famous! We're victims!"
They're rich and famous because people pay to watch movies and TV shows with them on it.
Nobody is forcing you to watch their movies or shows.
Yep, that's exactly what the studio heads are saying.
Please stay on strike.
median salary for an actor is $46,900. writer is $66K. You think that is rich? Matt damons are the exception, not the rule.
They need a pay cut not a raise.
The point has gone over your head
Something tells me I'll be sleeping just fine.
@@insertnamehere5146 I've seen the estimations and I am seeing the innovations that are down the line in my field (agricultural engineering)
If we don't replace our current economic models we will have an extremely paradoxical and volatile state of productive capacity being way above demand but there being no economic prospect for a decent life for a massive amount of people.
Completely agree
And what would the alternative to capitalism look like?
@@SP-qi8ur There's many options
An immediate (but not ideal) solution that could be implemented relatively quickly is market socialism (replacing private corporations with worker co-operatives)
However it's still reliant on a market system and as such inherits it's flaws, thus it useful as a stopgap but is not a long term solution in the face of climate change and automation.
Already canceled all my streaming services till they get a deal ✌🏼

@@dontmindmeimjustchilling just out of curiosity, which information did you base your conclusion off?
Writers have systematically destroyed every single thing I’ve ever been a fan of from game of thrones, Witcher, and Wheel of Time to Star Wars. Now they’re mad a literal machine can write better!? Sucks to suck I guess
Write better? That's not what they are mad about, they are mad that AI is trained on human work, and can copy-paste people's work without people getting compensated.
Even google is going to work their AI to scan people's emails and documents and your stuff you write and send through them will be their property, not yours. Their AI can copy paste your conversations, your work documents, your writing projects, your IDEAS and paste it for other people to steal word for word.
The generation of AI stuff is not all original, majority of it is not.
That is why artists, drawing and painting artists, digital artists too were the first ones to complain.
The main issue with AI is that it steals people's creativity and then the creators of AI claim that the AI is the true creator when it hardly, IF even is.
Old AI generation programs, for examples old Chatbots were given original parameters to jumble up and stay on topic, but often times it lead to hysterical results because the parameters are limited. Now, the parameters are just "Steal other people's stuff"
Lol do you know how AI machine even work, it basically just recycles all the idea and thought on the internet right now, and this is the worse era to start doing that now
"Star Wars" was created by George Lucas, who is a career cinematic writer-director. "Game of thrones" TV show got consistently high ratings and praise from all quarters, unless you are referring to the maligned last season of the show.
Union strong brothers and sisters! Hold the line!
Today we talk about writers and actors. Tomorrow we will talk about other industries.
@@user-rm2wj9gj3l I’m not talking about AI, I’m talking about an industry, if it disappears tomorrow, won’t have that much impact.

I love how people are starting to realize how capitalism and AI would ruin our lives, it's only a matter of time till every CEO decides to lay off his workers and replace them with AI instead of using AI as a way to make our jobs easier.
In a socialist society where unions have control over every company's decisions people would use AI and get less working hours.

So, worst case scenario for the average American is not seeing celebrities for a while or seeing new content spewed out by Hollywood for a bit longer than they thought previously.
The actual worst case scenario is the strike never actually ending, due to some sort of impasse. That just means no new content, we would instead have to rely on the backlog of content. Luckily, there is plenty of of it.
@wylierichardson-tu6zs I guess I just don't really see that type of situation happening... Every party involved (actors, Hollywood execs, writers, our economy, etc.) would suffer significant financial losses in the long run if that were the case, and it couldn't be feasible for anyone long-term. It's only been a few months, and from what I've heard, it's possible it could last till the end of the year (which is a more realistic worst-case scenario). Beyond that, everyone involved in the film industry would have too much to lose to not be able to reach some form of resolution. As far as the average American, as you mentioned, we'll be fine with the amount of film/tv that's already been released. Worst-case for us is that we'll run out and have to spend more time amusing ourselves with something else.
