A good way to secure field dressing and campsites is to use a portable electric fence. The lightest one out there weighs only 2.4 lbs and it’s powerful enough to deter a hungry griz. Just a suggestion
With a bow? No. In my younger years I use to pack my horses into the Sierras in California when I lived there. - th-cam.com/video/WbHle0wnhtQ/w-d-xo.html - Have shot many deer with my bow but all in Texas where I live now. - th-cam.com/users/rogerisii - Tried hunting bear and deer in California with my bow but never got to fling an arrow. One of these days, when time and money allow, I would love to try again for a mule deer but maybe Colorado or Wyoming. All the best and thanks again for sharing the hunt. I guess you got the job Cameron use to have with EHJ?
We could probably skip out on early goose, doves and teal for some action like this! Great filming and your patience on the stalk along with taking advantage of the opportunity are incredible.
Thanks Dan. If I remember right my sight was set at 30. I judged him at 50 so I put some daylight over his back and set it. He was about 58 so I still clipped his heart.
Dan I know that shot was super impressive but let’s not ignore the fact that you killed a damn bird with a rock!,! Hahahaha THAT was the best shot IMO! haha
Love the vids but can ya please keep the stupid sponsor ads out of the middle of the dogon screen during the vids... its one to promote some companies stuff but do it at the start or end...I pay not to see ads then see nothin but sponsor ads from beginning to end.
Dan Pickar I get it but there's plenty of good Hunters out there that make lots of money on TH-cam and don't have advertisements right in the middle of a good shot in the video but so be it
Great hunt! Enjoyed the mid video comedy too!
Nothing better than high country mule deer.
Makes me yearn for the high country!
The patience you had while the buck was on approach was incredible! Great film 👊
Thanks 👍 We appreciate you watching!
He sure did the heart shot skip. I always love seeing a deer do that.
Definitely a good sign! Are you bowhunting this fall?
@@EastmansHuntingJournals I've been hoping to get out into the Spanish peaks in montana to get after elk and mule deer
@@dillonmclaughlin402 good luck and have fun out there!
Thanks I'm hoping for the best as it's going to be my first time out bow hunting.
@@dillonmclaughlin402 you should check out Dan's shot placement videos. Might be helpful! th-cam.com/video/V4_hEwLiKos/w-d-xo.html
Talk about stoking the fire, awesome hunt!
How could anyone click dislike on this hunt... Awesome job boys and great buck!
Thanks man!

Gonna be up in WY in a couple weeks with my dad... Hope we can get him on something nice. Thanks for sharing this awesome hunt..!!
Glad you enjoyed the hunt! We hope yours is just as successful!
Very nice, thanks for sharing the hunt. The buck cooperated nicely by coming right your way. Great shot!
Thanks for the compliment! Have you every taken an archery high country buck?

Great shot placement bud. Impressive
Thanks a bunch!
Beautifully shot! That country is total eye-candy. Loved seeing the moose, very neat. And congrats on the deer. More meat clips next time.
Cool buck. Nice shot! Great country.
Have to say the pop up adds during the hunt suck and block the view. Need to change that.
Thanks
Thanks for the feedback. It's much appreciated. In our newer Beyond the Grid episodes, you'll see we changed it up a bit. Thanks for watching.
in...credible. What a shot. All that action at full draw with a single pin, how much did you have to account for with hold over? nice work!
Thanks Dan. If I remember right my sight was set at 30. I judged him at 50 so I put some daylight over his back and set it. He was about 58 so I still clipped his heart.
@@EastmansHuntingJournalsincredible shot!! Do you practice doing hold over shots during the off season? Are you still running a single pin?
Epic content! Nice hunt Dan!
Thanks bud!
Beautiful...
Sweet!
Great video! Beautiful area to clear the mind!
Anyone know what quiver that is?
It is the Mathews Arrow Web two piece quiver!

What an awesome video to post 30 days before the season opener!! Thank again! I’m pushing hard this year!
Awesome, good luck out there!
Ok so dumb question. But how did you get the distance on that shot so quick after it sprinted off?
He probably had the whole area ranged so he had landmarks to guess on, also he ran back to the 2 point, and he probably ranged that spot too
Great shot! How far was he?
Believe It Archery 50 yds give or take. It was all Kentucky windage.

Dan Pickar haha wow.. Awwesome job man. great video, great hunt.. Thanks for sharing!
Haha yeah that was a trophy in its own right for sure. However I hit him on the 7th attempt! Lol
The 🦅 or the 🦌. Both impressive 🤘🏽
Great video, although all the ads during the video really threw off the flow of it
Double extras?? Cheaters?? 😳

Couldn't watch anymore sick of the advertising in the middle of the shot
Noted, however this is what makes the content free to you.
