I always appreciate a good real-life-use review; thanks for doing this. I'm really happy with my choice of Forest ESC boots (before the Magna version or the Decon FG2 models existed) for the woodsy, rock & rooty, mud & snow situations I wanted them for, working on our property and hiking. Sno-Seal has been the go-to in my family since I was a kid in the '70s. Great natural beeswax water-proofer. I'm looking at the Decon Low as a weather-resistant trail hike or run shoe. Waiting a bit to see what the updated one might be like. Hip hip for both Sno-Seal and The Barefoot Strength Project channel!
This is literally THE review I've been looking for! I've been close to getting the Forrest ESC but feel that the tread is overkill for what I need (parks and woods with my kids), but also concerned about the water resistance of the Decons. Looks like if I treat the Decons properly, they should do me fine 😀. It's great to have someone do a review of how they have found using boots as part of their everyday life, and not on specifically set up activities. Greetings from the UK.
Great! And greetings, that’s exactly what I would suggest as well for the parks and outings. Vivo has done well in comprising a boot that is very versatile and durable, I would add some treatment and hit it my friend! Best of luck to you! 😄👍
@@unprofitableservantsministry out of interest, how have you found them in the wet and rain? How quickly does rain start coming through the woolen upper? Thanks.
@@Moving4Well I’ve been in the rain and not had any issues so far, and while the rain I’ve been in wasn’t terrible, the wool does serve as a great buffer between my sock and the rain so far.
well the magna esc sole is exactly for the terrain you are describing. SG stands for soft ground, as you know. and you are on soft ground all day...so...
i know the aggresive lugs are for more traction on softer sole but i was looking for more feedback in the sole, like you find in the primus lite III''s
@@unprofitableservantsministry i always wear them except right now as we have lots of snow and i need more grip. atm i wear the magna forest as my every day shoes. but usually i wear the leather fg because of the feel. i love them all, but they are my favourites :)
I'm looking for true all-round hiking shoes and really looking at the Decon FG 2. I feel like the ESC would be too warm in hot climates while the Decon could work great. The only thing I'm wondering is if normal Magna FG's wouldn't be sufficient for me. I've done all sorts of insane hikes without any profile at all before. I'm very agile and light on my feet so I might be good with the low profile shoe that could also be worn in more casual settings
In your case, I would definitely go with the more low profile shoe, I wear my decons to the store and on errands and low profile hikes with the family, and while for more rigorous hikes I’ll need something like the ESC’s the Decon has gotten the job done! Not good traction for uphill/wet terrain but other than that these are my go tos!

Great stuff! Glad to see I’m not the only one on sno-seal! Wishing you well on your barefoot journey!
