Writer, historian, satirist, and public intellectual Gore Vidal speaks with his biographer, Fred Kaplan, about his life and newly released biography, Gore Vidal: A Biography (1999). This event is part of the Books and Breakfast discussion series, sponsored by Barnes and Noble. Vidal and Kaplan respond to audience questions about the book and Vidal’s life and experiences. Vidal reflects on his experience living in Naples, his contentious relationship with The New York Times, influential figures in his life, and the process of working with institutions to archive his papers. He also comments on current events and politics including the state of gay rights in the United States and the presidency of Bill Clinton.
