We paid for debt, then paid down the mortgage and both those required real sacrifices but we always had a visual aid showing the debt first, then the mortgage coming down. We’ve debt and mortgage free now and live off a lower income come now. We have perspective and know we have everything we need, we live well, we are warm, clean and we’re never hungry. Many can not say that.

Due to my autism, I always try to make things I find important or interesting 100% each time. That leads to fatigue sometimes as well. I tell myself to relax and remind myself of that EVERYBODY struggles sometimes. That helps to refocus on my goals.

I NEVER tire of frugality. Had to have an emergency tree service come today to cut down a dangerous tree. $400 for one hour's worth of work, and after stashing unused cash for years, I had plenty of money in my cookie jar. Most folks think I'm a kook, but saving money is just a way of life for me, and I'm the one friends and relatives come to for a loan when they hit a snag in life!

Watch Budget Girl if you feel like giving up. Her dedication of staying on track during her debt payoff was truly inspirational. Watching other people doing what you are doing and tracking your progress was how we met our goals. It also helps us with new goals. Maybe this will work for others too.

For much of our frugal journey we didn't have like minded folks to hang with. We even got criticized for not spending money in social situations because we didn't have it. Our biggest encouragement was from pouring over the Tightwad Gazette books. Now that folks are online, it's been encouraging to find a community here.

I really like the idea of reminding your self of the reasons you are frugal. I believe it honors God to be a good steward of the resources he blesses us with. Granted he calls us to do this so it is a blessing and a responsibility. When I feel anxious or depressed, I start a gratitude time/journal. Sometimes its a struggle but over time I’ve learned that struggles make me stronger and more knowledgeable. I’ve turned frugality into a game. The game can be as simple as I want or as complicated as I enjoy, but it is my choice. The power is with me.

The "when" is so important. A goal without a timeline is more like a dream.
Praying is the absolute best thing to do!
So far, thank goodness, I've never become fatigued with frugality. When I had a good income, I loved seeing myself pay off bills and save. I loved the challenge of how fast I could pay off bills and how much I could save! At times when I had no choice, like now in retirement on disability income, I've been thankful for what I did (do) have and love to see my budget stretch over all my needs. There are times when I truly don't have enough. I pray to God about my needs...and He provides a way. No matter what, I'm still thankful for what I do have. I lived two and a half years with no income at all...on savings. You talk about FRUGALITY! I cut down to absolute the barest minimum! By comparison, now I'm SO thankful for my income, even though it's low and fixed. Frugality is easier, and more joyful with an income rather than without one!
My parents grew up in the great depression and then WWII. My grandparents raised their children during those times. Frugality is "built in." As a child, I certainly was never deprived. As an adult, this frugality, that's in my bones, just carried me through whatever financial times came. It took me a long time to be able to buy a house and I really wanted one. Now, I am SO, SO happy in my home! It's amazing to me I was able to buy my house on my own...and it's SUCH a good house! I'm very thankful.
Love your channel and love listening to you. I also really like Kate and her channel. ❤

I have a few financial goals I am trying to meet. With everyday expenses, debt reduction and saving can be such a slow process. Last year, I worked a second full time job to help. This past week, I once again started a second full time job. This time, I don’t have a time limit put on it. It can be extremely hard working two full time jobs at the same time but implementing healthy habits, making the most of the limited time I spend home, reminding myself of “my why” and staying positive certainly helps!!

I only started my frugal journey in January of this year...I dabbled a bit last year but really started hard core in January....
Since starting...I have been able to pay off all my credit cards and pay off my car. I have not once paid for dining out...and I do have a nice sum saved up just in case.
Yes I might see something I want but I am holding strong. But I am week....so I try not to even go into a store...and when I must..I do try and just go straight to what I need and get out quick.
I'm also teaching my daughter's to be frugal too. Although my youngest is addicted to fast food...I am so proud that when she got her tax refund, she paid off all her debt. That was so awesome.
It is so nice, strange, but nice, to go to the mailbox and not have any bills in there....used to get bills every day.
    Good luck to everyone.
    Thank you Hope and Larry.

I'm a long time follower and recently decided to watch your videos from the very beginning, and so, I am just now watching this video. I am a naturally frugal person but as a single mom currently working 3 jobs (2024), the most defeating thing for me is that I have to be frugal out of necessity. I work very hard and very long days (12+ hours several days a week) and struggle with the feeling that I shouldn't have to be so frugal and so tight with my budget when I work so hard. It is definitely defeating when you are budgeting and cutting expenses and selling things and working multiples jobs and are still barely making ends meet. Very thankful for your channel though and all the tips you share.

Those were some really good ideas!! My husband becomes frugally fatigued quite easily. I think it’s because he doesn’t do the budget as much as I do. We talk almost every day about one thing or another but getting in there and crunching numbers is where the action is at.
We do treat ourselves when a goal is met and that really does make you feel joy.
Next month marks the 2nd year of budgeting as husband and wife. Before that, I always budgeted but he never did.

He came home from that trip and called to ask me out on a date. He said he went to the mountains and realized that he wanted someone to share his life with. So, I was pretty happy he went on the trip and climbed the mountain.

I’ve noticed with your family even though you’re frugal you still find fun things to do. With fb & Internet now a days you can’t help but find so many things that are fun ...yet...budget friendly to do.
Just today a post from my cities park & rec dept was about needing volunteers on Earth Day. Volunteers are meeting up for 3 hours to help clean up the parks. It gets me outside moving to help get rid of winters extras pounds, it gets me socializing with people safely. Plus I found out after I filled out the online application that volunteers get a free T-shirt. Frugality to me is not about depriving yourself, it’s about living life to the fullest but making wise money choices while doing so.

For me, it's the damned paperwork! EVERY budget channel recommends tracking every single penny coming in and going out. According to the information I have, I have to make calendars of my strictly planned dinners (even though my hobby is creating ex tempore recipes), extensive inventory charts, and lengthy spreadsheets comparing prices from different vendors so that I can monitor prices accurately. I know Hope LOVES charts and graphs and lists. I loathe them with a purple passion that non-learning disabled people do not understand. IQ is not just a smartness number, it is the average of a series of sub-tests. Zero is a non-responsive vegetable, 9 is average, and 17 is a genius. To nobody's surprise, I score a 17 in vocabulary. To everyone's surprise, I scored a "1" in "numerical processing." They gave me one point because I knew my own name and was responsive to the test. No, I'm not exaggerating. Stupid little charts and lists really are that hard for me. CAN I do these things? Sure. I figured out how to double-check everything for accuracy (if the error is a multiple of 9, I've reversed two digits), etc. It is unbelievably fatiguing, overwhelming, and it takes an enormous amount of time. ODDS ON BET that if every one of Hope's charts cost her three to four hours of grueling headache-inducing effort to construct, she'd be less enamored of charts, as well! If the ONLY way to save money is to add a full four- to eight-hour effort of my most hated activity into every single week, I can guarantee I will never save a dime! There have GOT to be ways to automate this. It only stands to reason that there are apps out there for budgeting and saving. Unless or until I figure out how to automate budgeting and saving, I flatly refuse to do it. Never gonna happen. No way. Sorry, I spent my entire adult life loathing working with numbers and I'm not going to change.

I call it "getting in a rut"
    Visual charts help me alot
Monopoly money I use instead of real money to stuff our envelopes I dont like having a ton of cash hanging out at our Ranch.
I also keep my goal charts throughout our Ranch so if I pass by it I look at it and say Oh Yes and back on track. I like to look over our budget twice a week.
Remember your budget isn't in stone you can change it I do and move things around.
Cash Dump is for dumping in only NOT taking out. Retirement is awesome 🤑😁

One way to prevent this burnout is to give yourself little treats along the way. Every month, I buy a couple boxes of cookies at Aldi's. Sure, I spend $50 a year or so on them, but a small, controlled splurge is better than breaking entirely. An ounce of prevention and all that good stuff lol

You make a valid point. We don't eat sweets during the week, but on the weekends our son, Daniel, bakes cupcakes or another desert for us. We enjoy it, even during the week we know that as soon as the weekend arrives, we'll be enjoying something sweet. Now we just have to figure out how to get Daniel to keep doing this for us after he moves out. LOL!

A lot of people hate frugality.they view it as punishment.
It's really not.it's about choosing where and how you live.how you.control your finances.
If all you.do is shop, eat out, always at the clubs and bars,i can 100% assure you your bank account is empty.
My husband was never good with money.now he is.he set up autopay for internet, com ed and rent.our only bills.this way it's taken out of our bank account instantly before we even see it.no more stress if we have money to pay bills.the money is automatically taken for the bills.it may be worth looking into this option.
Kinda if i don't see it,i don't miss or want it.

Boredom is my trigger. I have routines in place that help me stick to my plan but occasionally boredom kicks in and triggers those fatigue symptoms. Food boredom has been the issue lately and I started looking at food I don't normally buy in the store. So I've been trying new recipes with food I already have. Sometimes it's boredom with my clothes, sometimes it's boredom with work so instead of working I look at Amazon.

I found a youtuber Angelas Fashion Mix. She thrifts for her wardrobe and accessories. But importantly, she combines things already in her closet and adds a scarf or costume jewlery. I found when I rethought my clothes to look more attractive it cheered me up. It was fun.

I just think of my mom. She cooked 3 meals a day, snacks, canned, had a garden. We ate well at home, nice family meals. We talked, laughed. Make food eating more fun. No phone or tv. Maybe music? A dinner guest? Set a pretty table? Make food prep effort worth it to add to the pleasantries of your life.
