Jacob Blake Shooting Shines New Light on Death of Michael Bell, Killed by Kenosha Cops in 2004

  • In light of the police shooting of unarmed African American father Jacob Blake, we look at the past misconduct of the Kenosha police department. In 2004, Kenosha police killed white 21-year-old Michael Bell in front of his mother and sister. The Kenosha Police Department conducted its own review of the incident, and within two days completely exonerated the officers. Bell’s father, Michael Bell Sr., commissioned an independent inquiry that found the police account of the incident to be forensically impossible. “It was really hard for me to believe that a uniformed person would do that,” says Michael Bell Sr., who claims the Kenosha police department “covered up the true facts of the case.”

The police are just humans with 6 months of training. What makes them above the laws they are supposed to uphold as well?

    • @MZDezi1010
      @MZDezi1010 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@Linda Terry As I stated above cops are humans with six months of training. They have their life to think about and the lives of others to think about in just seconds, they need more training. With that said they are very bias when it comes to the black community they already come with full force in any situation when the numbers show most cops are shot by white males way more often than black males but again when dealing with black males they are very aggressive. We just witnessed cops basically pleading with a white male to get out the car, he screaming i dont want to go jail, he's wrestling with the cops at some point he eithers get their gun or had his own gun either way he shot 2 officers. And still he was arrested not murdered. He has a mugshot not a death certificate. Now had they had their gun out like they do with black males they probably wouldn't have bullets in them right now.
Lets be clear this fight is not only about police officer shootings its about police brutality and misuse of power. George Floyd wasn't shot, he was suffocated basically. We are absolutely tired of it. My friends, family and myself have our own stories of police being over aggressive and trying to force a situation instead of calming it.
What you don't see in the media is 13yr old black boys standing and talking to each other police rolls up starts harassing them as if they were doing anything but talking. Its already assumed they are up to good. Now they are sitting on the curb in handcuffs getting their names checked for doing absolutely nothing but hanging out. Its done on basketball courts, in malls, on school grounds, sitting on their own porch, etc.
I have never committed any crimes yet I was treated horribly they even put guns in my 2yr old face (she still remembers), the whole time they had the wrong house. Even though i kept telling them my name wasn't Tina and there is no Tina in my home. Ransacked my home and just left.
Do I judge every officer on what those officers did? Absolutely not, I have been in contact with police and it was not a bad experience. However we are often profiled based on their previous encounters.

Thus for eg the surgeon operating on a patient can't be the spouse bcos in a precarious situation his/her thinking can't be muddled by emotions, which may result in a grave situation. Humans are just too fallible. The systems in the US is not working bcos the systems are flawed. Hence the many amendments to the constitution. Money needs to come directly out of the officers pension and we'll see how quickly they can use self control and stop being so quick to fire deadly shots while (supposedly) trying to "apprehend a suspect". A huge part of the problem is the police unions and obviously the fact that most departments are allowed to "investigate themselves" following a use of deadly force "incident". They're clearly not going to find themselves at fault.

My question for everyone who has watched this video... what are you now going to do in your towns to downsize the role police play in our society and create accountability when they are carrying out that role.?

Despite the horrendous tragedy to him and his family, he remains a kind, respectful, fair and rational person. This is a great example to us all. He seems to be a great human being. The law(s) shielding the police force from facing consequences of acts like this must be abolished.

@JB JG I think his disbelief has to do with how can a cop do a gang style killing? That's not part of their training...especially since he also has training in the area. At least he used his son's death and help to change the law. I admire his strength

@JB JG Maybe I did mean 'gangster style' killing. Just recently I was watching a video where a known gang member put his foot on the neck of a guy and shot him in the head. I wish it was only in the movies but... I understand and agree with what you are saying tho.

So rather than admit to a tragic mistake (the gun/wing mirror thing) they lied and lied and lied over and over again to try to exonerate themselves. How many more times does this have to happen ?

On June 3, 2020, Senators Kamala Harris, Edward Markey, and Cory Booker introduced a Senate resolution calling for the elimination of qualified immunity for law enforcement.
On June 23, 2020 Senator Mike Braun introduced the Reforming Qualified Immunity Act. (Wiki)
Policing starts and ends with consent of the public.
Police brutality is sponsored by the state which protects officers from misconduct.

To correct this whole scenario involving the police department along with police shooting here in the U.S.A. is doing away with Qualified Immunity , which would make law enforcement just as responsible for their actions just like ordinary Americans citizens are held to the same standards 😒. That's not hard for any Americans to understand in 2020 . Truly Yours Mr.Cottrell 😔.

Police like doctors should have to have liability/malpractice insurance. Their mistakes should not cost the tax payer. We have to continue to pay their salaries and their retirements.

Heartbreaking and eye opening. Thanks to democracy now for having Michael Bell Sr. on your program and I think his work is an excellent model for the rest of the states that still let their police investigate themselves.
We need this to happen for Breonna Taylor bc AG Cameron is too busy giving speeches at conventions.
