Great video. I’m having issues with mine also, but my cap is brand new. It would also be nice if they made the latch assembly about a half inch longer.

I just rotated the locking position so that the latches contacted the tailgate when locked. Had to bend the latches a little bit, but door is more secure when locked imo. Tail gate also locks so not concerned about it.

I had a similar problem with a brand new cap. They make the latches too short given that they have the opening on an acute angle. Drive on any rough road or speed bump and enough movement that the latch would slip out or worse get jammed in the trim. I was going to do something much more intesive like making a new latch to replace the OEM. One day looking at it from a different point, I cut a short length of conduit, squashed it oval in the vice, then hammered it onto the OEM part. I removed the OEM part first before hammering so I could then crimp it tight in place. Never had an issue with it after that. Hope this saves someone the headaches I had with my latch getting snagged in the metal trim around the opening. Yes to buying a used cap. Wasn't long after buying that it started to leak around the windows. Save the money, get a used one and do these simple repairs 6th gear shop shows here.

Where did you get those cap to bed rail clamps? They look sturdy and I like the eyelet on the end.

They came with the cap, but I think you can find them on amazon or parts stores.

You can pretty much put any key in those things and they unlock I've lost my camper shell keys so many times they open with pretty much any small key just got to jiggle It

Aren’t there stops inside the t handles? Mine have stops which limit the rotation of the handles to 90 degrees. Basically like a steel storage cabinet, 1/4 turn on the handles to open the latch is determined by the stops in the handle.

There were those plastic stoppers but one had fallen off. This cap was pretty well used when I got it.

To be honest, I wouldn't do it again. It took a lot longer than expected. I looked at new wheels, but not a big selection of 16" wheels for the land cruiser, since I wanted to re-use the 16" tires. Down the road, when it's time for new tires, I'll consider some 17" wheels/tires.
