Thanks for posting this video! It helped me to understand the operation of the solenoid and its effect on the handle. I was able to confirm that the extra solenoid I had from the original lock mechanism I have (its handle had broken) is still functional. And I also confirmed that the solenoid in the lock on my cap is working - so I need to troubleshoot the wiring from my truck's harness to the cap to get everything working again.
Awesome video! I have the exact same problem with it being wet and corroding. Pulled the solenoid for now and am using the key until the new one arrives. Thanks a bunch! I will subscribe!
There are 3 big plastic nuts that need to be removed. It should come right off after that. If it doesn't, it may be stuck to the glass and need some encouragement.
I don't have a video, but you just cut the wire going from each latch through the lock handle, unplug the electrical connector, and remove the large plastic nuts on the inside. It should come right off.
My manual plastic handle just broke off, I have yet to be able to locate that whole assemble online to order mine is not the electric version. I have to use pliers to open my rear window. do you have a link to the part
They are hard to find. Any dealer should sell them. I found mine online at ishlers.com - Here is a link for the non-electric handle: www.ishlers.com/content/are-z-series-palm-handle-non-elock-newer-style FWIW, I have no affiliation with them.
@@peppermoongarage If you have to cut the cables then you can't just take the solenoid out and reuse it as a manual lock right? Any chance you have a link to the replacement part you got? Very helpful and informative video, thank you! I've run into the same problem on my palm handle where it's cracked and probably rusted out inside now.
Excellent video!

I admire a tinkerer at heart. You can save yourself the cost of a new lock.

Thank you for the feedback and sub!
Thank you... this helped me figure out why mine wasn't working...
Glad I could help
I have a new tumbler with keys. Just want to know how to knock out the old one without breaking the plastic casing
How do you re and re the tumbler only
NM. I did it. It should have just slid right out but the little push but it was so corroded and you had to push a little piece in to get it through
Well done!
That's exactly what my ARE is doing but I haven't taken it apart yet. Thanks
I'm not sure how the water got in to start with, but it definitely wreaked havoc with the electronics.
@@peppermoongarage , in the images I believe I saw that the top of your handle housing was cracked. That would certainly allow a water path.
Good eye, that would do it.
found mine not working electric or key... ill check as you showed us...thanks!
How did you get this off I’ve got the cable removed but I can’t get it off the glass

Do you have video how to get it off the window itself

My handle broke, too. Did you find replacement (non electric)?
Do you have a video on how to take it off the door
I don’t have a video showing that. You have to cut the cable, unplug the electrical, and remove the nuts

How did you remove the cables? Is there a video showing this?
You have to cut the cable. It threads through the lock and is crimped on both ends. fwiw, my new lock handle came with a new cable and crimps.
I have replaced my lock already twice. I wish there was a different handle that I could use because ARE he handles suck.
Whast the part number on the solenoid, maybe one could find and order just that??
I could not find just the solenoid. I ended up buying the entire latch from ishlers.com for $150-ish
Broke the are handle... ugh! Where does the solenoid get its power? Note.... i have no power running to the cap.
The power comes from the power door lock circuit. It locks and unlocks with the doors.
I lost the key is there any way I can brake the lock can I call a locksmith
I have a video on that. It's not great, but should give you the info you need: th-cam.com/video/lwyNL19Kxo0/w-d-xo.html
I have a flat hard camper shell on the truck
