Had a similar thing happen with my husband. I went to a bar he was working at and we just froze looking at each other smiling. When a mutual friend got tired if us sneaking looks at each other, he forced us to talk. Iur first actual date seven months later (after talking every single weekend) didn't really end until the day he passed almost 10 years later. And I still think about him every day.
