Madeira is a fortified Portuguese wine meaning it has a high ABV spirit added to it such as a distilled wine. The most interesting thing about Madeira is that it is oxidized on purpose meaning it can then withstand very high temperatures and sitting in a previously opened bottle for a very long time without degradation. This is why it became so popular in colonial times since they didn't have refrigeration, could store it in a very hot place like an attic and could preserve it easily once opened, even in hot climates.
That’s an awesome breakdown of Madeira-thanks for sharing! Its resilience and unique history definitely add to the appeal, especially when it plays a role in whiskey finishes. 🥃
Barrel SeaGrass is a dangerous pour for me. I suppose I like it a little too much! Great review because I can absolutely see this as a summer boat pour… and now I have to acquire one so I can make that happen on my SeaRay… thanks guys… cheers!!!!!
No you totally nailed it as good as anyone could.. When they add sweetness to a rye base like that, it makes it seem like sweet Bourbon.. think Pikesville, etc.. all the barely legal ryes are like that.. taste like Bourbon. Plus you called wine finish! You did great!
Appreciate the kind words! Totally agree-those barely legal ryes can blur the lines in the best way. Pikesville is a perfect example. Thanks for the encouragement! 🥃
I took a motorcycle trip from BC to Oregon in July - Grabbed the Seagrass/Armida/Dovetail and was blown away by all three. I love em, totally my jam and I will be keeping them on my shelf. Wish I could afford the Grey/Gold Labels or get the special picks from the states. Also you guys rock my socks off with your dynamic, love it. Keep going!
They just put out a special and limited release of this called Seagrass Toasted. Available on sharedpour in case anyone is interested. Expensive though. Great episode ya'll!
Glad we were able to definitively identify it's Dustin! 😂 Great nosing and tasting notes. I'm right there with you with this bottle and I completely understand the reason for the uncertainty with nailing down what it is. Dustin still doesn't know anything and that's the way he likes it! 😂 Thanks to you both and cheers!!
I've got a few Barrell blends. I tried 2 different vantage batches, and I got the Batch 33 and Batch 34 annual releases. Nothing wrong with any of them at al but for that price, for me there's something missing. Honestly its almost like they're TOO balanced for me personally.
Their meticulous blending often results in a harmonious profile, which some might find overly balanced. Have you come across any blends that align more with your taste preferences?
Madeora grapes and apricot brandy gave you the fruity flavours that arent normally found in bourbon or rye...so good guesses anyways! You got the tasting notes bang on!
That’s amazing I love Barrell blends and I just bought a Barrell Seagrass this weekend. Cant wait to try it. If Barrell Seagrass was R rated comedy what movie would it be and why? 😂
I spy with my little eye...WALL-E! Is he going to be handling the AI responses? Like all of my fellow subscribers I always look forward to your videos. They really are a nice way to lighten the mood after a day at work.

@otbwhiskey is this AI? It seams so real 😁 Nothing for me today because I'm sick. Before that I had a Talisker Distillers Edition from 2021. Great dram

@otbwhiskey The phone app doesn't seem to have AI generated responses as an option...
Maybe, I'm just missing it in the interface. 🤷🏻♂️
You guys have great personalities. Love the vibe on this channel.
Those were great blind notes for Seagrass!
totally hear the doggo licking at the end of the video lol

Seagrass slaps super hard. Free shipping on barrels website atm! Till end of year
"Did you get any opulence?" Maybe the best whiskey review question ever asked.
Haha, it’s the ultimate question, right? Sometimes you just need to know if a whiskey brings the opulence! 🥃

I feel that. Dangerous, indeed. 🥃

Wow, that sounds like an epic trip-and great bottle choices! Thanks so much for the kind words-we’ll keep the reviews coming! 🥃
I love that Barrel. So good.
Barrel blends are the best.
Totally agree! There’s something special about the complexity and depth you get from a well-crafted barrel blend.
They just put out a special and limited release of this called Seagrass Toasted. Available on sharedpour in case anyone is interested. Expensive though. Great episode ya'll!
Oh, good lookin’ out!
Seagrass absolutely rocks. Madeira is a fortified wine, so it counts! Nicely done, Kalyn.
Seagrass really does rock! And you’re spot on about Madeira-it absolutely counts. Kalyn nailed it with that one!
You have to review that Evernorth Spirits you have on the shelf behind you. I only live a few miles from the Bourbon Junkies and their stuff is great.
I hear ya! It's been calling my name…
The only thing to look forward on Monday!
Now that’s high praise-thank you! Glad we can make Mondays a little better. 🥃 Cheers to that!

Haha Dustin and the mysteries of the whiskey world 🥃
Tbf that ai mumbo jumbo could legitimately be the name of Dustin's first whisky tome - Dustin and the mysteries of the whiskeyworld, nice title bot
You guys are twice as fun at double speed! ;)
Double speed, double the fun! 🥃
When are you guys going to visit Scotland?
Great question! A Scotland trip is definitely on the bucket list. Hopefully sooner rather than later-so many amazing distilleries to explore! 🥃
@@otbwhiskeyDamn this AI is convincing 😂
My man Dustin laying down some rhyme crime this ep. A very seasonal whisky choice for December...well it's summer somewhere I guess!
Haha, guilty as charged with the rhyme crimes! 😂 And you’re right-whisky season is year-round somewhere in the world. Cheers to that! 🥃
That bottle was the first rye I enjoyed!
Gateway Rye
Great choice! A solid gateway rye can really open the door to a whole new world of flavors. Have you explored more ryes since then?
@@otbwhiskey oh I’ve gone all the way down the Rye rabbit hole since then, might even prefer Rye’s now haha
Thanks! I ordered this based on this review…so it better be good. 😁. Was like $83 here in FL.
Let me know what you think!
It's excellent. One of my favs.
Knowing is half the battle. This battle is half lost.
Haha, sometimes the bottle wins the battle! 🥃 Better luck with the next pour!
In Colorado we would describe that as Johnny Appleseedy.....
Johnny Appleseedy-love that! Perfect way to capture those fruity, orchard vibes. 🥃
bod was the same color as gatorade blue. with a red top.
Ah yes, the classic Bod bottle! Such a nostalgic throwback-it really did look like a sports drink. 😂
Yeah but what would you pay for this bottle max?

Good question. I know that I tend to prefer dark rich flavors. I bought Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered last year and loved it. @@otbwhiskey

It was definitely a puzzle for sure! But we nailed it eventually!
Cheers 🥃
Right on!
Impressive guesses!
Thanks! You never know when your palate will hit the mark. Have you tried guessing a bourbon lately?
I'm going to get this next time I come down to North Dakota
Great choice! Let us know what you think when you grab it-always curious to hear your take. 🥃 Safe travels!

Love the seagrass!!
Love it indeed!
I am jealous....
Yup Definitely could hear , that & this kid is start to have hearing issues Lol 😂
Haha, sometimes those subtle notes sneak by! Glad you’re still catching the key flavors-cheers to keeping those taste buds sharp! 🥃😂
Great bottle and even a better review! 🥃 🍑
Couldn't agree more. That seagrass is something special!
That sounds like a whiskey right up my wife's alley.
Sounds like she has great taste! 🍷

Wait, other guys don’t use BOD anymore?! 😳
I'm going to guess that it is...."a mystery!"
Spot on-it’s always a mystery until that first sip! 🥃 What’s your best guess?
AI, this 🥃
Cheers to that! 🥃 Are you raising a glass to the future of bourbon blending or just enjoying a solid pour? Either way, I’m with you!
Lol I forgot all about bod
Haha, it happens! Bod always has a way of sneaking back into the conversation though. Cheers! 🥃
.33, she's bored already, LOL
Haha, she’s just saving her energy for the good stuff! Stay tuned! 😂🥃
walle!!
What's an AI's favourite scotch brand?...Compass Bots!
Good one! Compass Box is indeed a fantastic Scotch brand. Cheers! 🥃
