    Hello Everyone,
Thank you so much for watching this video. When this video was created almost 4 years ago at the time of me writing this... i never expected it to get as much traction on youtube as it has.
So here are a few things to consider before watching this video :
    1. This is how *WE* make it in our family
    2. This video was created for my *OWN* memory to look back on, it wasn't created with the intention of it being a resource for others... so YES there will be some banter between me and my family... and i love that i will be able to forever look back on these moments.
    3. Not all Guyanese people look the same, talk the same, or cook the same. So although *YOU* may do things differently, that does not mean that this is any more... or any less guyanese.
    4. To everyone who has enjoyed this video, to everyone who has left respectful comments... thank you for doing as such.
    5. If you are watching this video and you have a recipe you would love for me to learn and recreate, i would love for you to email it over to contact@thedailydavies.co.uk.... As a 1st generation Canadian... Now living in the UK, i would love to learn more west indian recipes, therefore my inbox is open to new recipes ( and learning * so please bare with me)
With saying all of that, i hope you are all well, and i hope you enjoy this video.
    Best wishes,
    Nicole

As a Guyanese born native I enjoy
This program of the unique food made original there and of which I
Remember as a young boy living in Guyana. As a Portuguese descendant your program brings back happy memories although I haven't enjoyed Guyanese meals for
A very long this makes me hungry
Keep up the good work thanks

Great recipe. I use either pigeon pease or black eye pease and my cook-up must include stewing beef, salt beef, pig tails, smoked turkey bottoms & dried shrimps. I grow fine & broad leaf time.

My Guyanese mother taught me to make it with pidgeon peas and yes...chicken. My uncle (her brother)puts ground beef as well as the other cuts. Love how your Guyanese accent comes out in your conversations with your Auntie. I can relate. Looks delish...wish I could do a taste test...lol

I'm a country girl, Guyanese of course. Real cookup must have everything original. No broth, no can, no boxes. Fresher the better.

    • @shampersaud2763
      @shampersaud2763 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I do relate to your thoughts in cooking using the original stuff but certain countries don't provide the fresh ingredients so they are making the best of what they have. Personally, I love the natural origin ingredients. Never the less, I enjoyed looking at how others cook .I do love cooking too.

We put ground meat and chicken..or like your auntie pressured cooked meat, pig tail and chicken. Thx for this. My mom passed away and I am trying to remember how she cooked it...lol.. which as you said is a bit different from your auntie. My mouth is watering.

    lloyd mitchell says
this is a national dish well explained by an expert
the wide variety of meats legumes and seasoning and the creativity makes
it impossible to find the same somewhere else. the beans and peas are left soaking
overnight the same goes for dried shrimp, salt fish dried meats.
this probably could be the best cookup rice ever

Hi. Nichol our Guyanese put everything in our cook up. Like salt beef, chicken every part of the chicken, pork , pig tale, fresh beef, when I say every part of the chicken I meant the foot, wings, neck, breast ,back legs, trips and lots more. I fried up my rice first before adding my milk going good so far.

Hi! I have been enjoying your videos. Reminds me of when we lived in Canada. I love Palau (I'm a Trini). At our house we make it either vegetarian or with chicken/pork. If vegetarian, we make tomatoes choka or have a good salad on the side. The cook up made with dhal (split peas) we call kichoree. It is a vegetarian dish. When we use meat, We season with a different blend of green seasonings (French and fine/Portuguese/Spanish thyme, Chadon Beni, chive, scotch bonnet pepper, garlic and ginger). Each Trini makes there Palau different also. By us, We stew the meat in caramelized (brown) sugar then add the other ingredients. In addition to pigeon peas/black eye beans my mom adds diced carrots and celery. Coconut milk is a must have (freshly grated from the backyard is the best!) And we like to add the 'creole flavour' which is the red butter when we add the liquids (water/broth + c. Milk).

How about a Guyanese style fried rice next aunty. We make ours almost the exact same way. We use chicken maggi cubes, and plain water, which is the same as the stock and the soup mix. We sometimes add spinach, with either fried fish/fried plantains/ casreeped chicken on the side.

First of all Guyana lies right next door to Brazil which is a portuguese country and many brazillians intermix with the guyanese east Indian and african populations as well as the native amerindian which results in alot of mixed raced people. My cousins gf who is guyanese is of mixed indian, indigenous and portuguese so itself not uncommon and im not trying to offend.

Yeah I don't know why she has to beat the crap out of the pots. Maybe that's why she's the best cook in the family. I don't get salted beef in the UAE so I use smoked ham only because it is salty. If I plan my cookup rice day properly, I usually cure my own salted beef. It takes about 10 days to cure. Good job. I use blackeye peas, split peas, red beans or spinach. All tasty.
