This presentation is structured as a collection of recently published papers authored by the speaker and her co-authors. Across four separate but related papers published in the field of consumer behavior and advertising, the speaker will present her research that involves what has been popular in the media, called parental style. This framework served as the foundation and inspired a series of her work on considering the role of parents and their preferences of regulation, personal characteristics, their own use of social media, and mediation methods for regulating their children’s media use; and further examine the influence of these factors on their children’s social media use and persuasion knowledge and the parent’s own level psychological empowerment, etc. Through reviewing the findings from this series of these papers, the speaker will discuss the implications drawn from these studies. She will also suggest and invite any open dialogue for future research ideas that are relevant to our understanding not only as scholars but as parents, educators, policymakers, and other associated stakeholders. She hopes her work can serve as a starting point for other current and future young scholars to build and expand on, contributing to this important area of work.
