My oldest hair system is 4 years old…. However, I have several different systems from Lordhair so I rotate my pieces. I never actually use glues, I just use the got2b method because I also don’t like sleeping in my hair and it’s easy to remove the residue. I’m a hairdresser so I also color and treat my own pieces, I usually just do a semi it adds shine and softness back to my hair. I enjoy your videos btw

Jake, I would have to say that your hair system looks so natural and real. I have gotten a lot of information from your videos. I thank you so much for all the great tips.

A number of things has helped me to make a system look more natural
    1. Density, chances are you're bald on top youre sides are diffused, go for 90% or less.
    2. Style forward caesar, or side swept messy without a part, no matter the hair system, someone will get the right angle light and will kind of see something.
    3. Learn to cut your hair system. Countless videos on youtube, always leave the edge hairs on the sides a couple mm longer than your own longest upper hair on your sides, use a thinning scissors to make the edge of the system on the sides very thin, thicker to where the main combover style begins
    3. Skin system with walker tape is quickest, easiest, cleanest, cheapest, approach for me
    4. They are always puffy when new, use a spray bottle to train it and to reduce puffiness to lay before actually installing.
    5. Get the right wave, i always go for a 30mm, but if I could afford it i would go for 28mm, it hides the hair line better
    5. Cheap hair systems are over thick at the crown and stick out if you want it short. Buy single knotted, instead of machine injected as these are manually made and will last longer.
    6. If youre going into work and conscious of it, i advise wetting the system and using a non alcohol based gel, it gives it a really natural diffused look that no one will know.
    7. When I was asked why i shaved my head before, i always say scalp psoriasis as that causes your hair to fall out but can grow back. I had 20 years ago and it did grow back only to fall out more slowly.
    8. You really need to let your hair on the sides of your head grow out long enough, say 3cm at the highest, cut and install your hair system, let your barber fade and line you up.
    Hope this helps

It’s always good content from you Jake, thank you.
I put a little oil(olive, avocado, etc.) before any washing because it adds extra protection from drying the shafts and preserves cuticles which can permanently/prematurely damage them. Also prevents minerals from the water entering the shafts by preserving the integrity of the cuticle.
Also it’s a good idea to get a shower head water filter to prevent the impurities of the water from contacting not only the hair and damaging it but also your skin too. Oiling the hair is so important because the sebum from your scalp doesn’t get to the hair and that’s why some people’s hair turns to straw.
Again, thanks for the good content.

Jake you provide great info. Something you might light to add is a conditioner wash, and a cool water rinse. The cooler the better.
Another great option, when shopping look for UNPROCESSED, VIRGIN UNITS. They are there you just have search. Remember unprocessed, virgin human hair. You can't imagine how long the unit will last because the cuticle is still in tacked to wit is extremely important when it comes to hair's integrity. Also stay away from the Oleplex system - makes the hair too hard and will break immediately at the base. I've been in the hair industry for over 30 years and I've tested and experimented with just about every possible product and techniques. Too much protein is not good for the unit's hair. It's like an eggshell. The only thing that is guaranteed is it will break (period).
    Best - MIG

I'm not sure if this is harmful or not but with poly and tape I have found that soaking it in cool water overnight will make the tape come right off. I do mine every 2 weeks and don't mind sleeping without it for one night as it gives my scalp a nice break. Then, I get up and clean the unit and both tape or glue well peal right off with no other chemicals needed.

I've used thin skin and I've used Swiss lace. I get at least 6 months out of my hair; usually 10 months. I am very gentle during removal and cleaning. Tape is the worst for your hair. On thin skin it is easy to rip the base. On Swiss lace it pulls the hair out of the back upon removal; even when the hair is soaked. The cleaning takes a bit longer when using glue, as it has to soak in a mixture of conditioner and water, then you stroke the glue of the system with a few gentle wipes. The hair should also be brushed out while submerged in the solution; it helps to brush through the tangles. As soon as you squeeze the solution out, Wash the back with a harsh soap, rinse it out, and put a bunch of de- tangler in it. I begin to dye my hair lightly after the third or fourth month. As for keeping it natural and supple, no-tangle products do an amazing job. The no-tangle products also use argon oil. The kids no-tangle products applied every three or four days, keep your hair natural smooth, and give a natural luster to it. I wash my hair with conditioner once a week and fix up the hairline and the main hair with some extra glue. I wear my hair for two weeks before re-installing it.

As of recent I rejected the idea of getting a hair system and when needed I used Toppik to fill in the balding on the top of my head. But Toppik is a mess and I get really self conscious when it's windy, hot or rains outside.. So I thought about getting a hair system (well the first thing was a hair transplant). The thing is, I don't want to wear it every day as I wear a baseball cap. I would prefer to wear it when I need to go into work (as I cannot wear baseball caps at work) as I work from home most days or wear it on special occasions, but would wear it more often down the road. Is it meant for seldom use? Would I damage it if I kept removing it from my scalp etc as opposed to leaving it on my head?

This is going to seem REALLY out there to users of standard hair replacement shampoos, conditioners, etc., so hear me out. I have had my Cosmetology license for nearly 40 years so imagine the styles I have seen come and go. I remember when extensions and adding "tracks" was verboten to speak of. In other words, if you were wearing them, you lied. See Diana Ross dodging this question in multiple interviews. Along the way, I learned some hacks that work better than some of the industry's prescription. Try soaking your hair in COLD water in a large mixing bowl or your sink. Add some Woolite (product to clean gentle items you cannot wash in the a machine). COLD water will keep your hair colorfast. Heat removes the color, dries out the hair and can cause breakage. Soak for 20 minutes, move it around in the bowl a little. Use a tooth brush and Woolite to gently scrub any areas that need more cleansing (like make up, bronzer, self tanner). Put the hair in a thick plush towel and roll it up and gently squeeze the water out until it is no longer dripping. The put it on your styro head, secure it with pins and style it while wet and let it air dry. This will clean, freshen the smell, protect the color and condition all at the same time. It also works great on synthetic pieces (which should NEVER have soap put on them, especially shampoos for human hair). Try it. Fast, easy, inexpensive. In addition to Jake's suggestion to use MATRIX SOCOLOR, your hair does not need a permanent color after the factor shade unless you want to change it permanently. MATRIX also makes a DEMI PERMANENT color that is mostly deposit and uses a very low peroxide to water ratio. Processes in shorter time and can be done more often (monthly if needed) and safely. Now if you live in a sunbelt state or tropical area of the world you need to protect your hair from HOURS of exposure especially if you will be in and out of the pool. Chlorine is terrible for hair systems. They have already been VERY processed by the time you purchase them. I would suggest not going into the chlorinated pool with your system on. Remember the Hair Club ads with the guys coming up out of the pool and their bangs stuck to their foreheads and they brushed it back like their own hair? Advise against it. Happy Hacking!!

Jake , I just watched your video about color. I’m curious as how you use your color? I’m a stylist of many years. Color is complicated. There’s different volumes of developer that you would use to protect the hair system. Would like to share that with you if you would like the info to pass on to others. Thanks

oh yeah, The oils on a thin skin system is a good idea. Dont put too much just run it thru the shaft, and not on the base tho... Lace is another story... the oils if you use too much will cause the knots to slip. Just putting that out there!.

Thats good advice for new and existing wearers but having been a system wearer for 7 years now I have to say the longevity of the hair units is decreased by the continuing poor quality, from a number of suppliers. One of the reasons why systems do not last long in my opinion and I've used dozens and dozens is due to the over-processing of the hair and also the quality of the manufacturing. I can tell a good from bad unit straight out of the box and companies such as Lordhair and lately Superhairpieces have no quality control whatsoever. I just had a 10 day online dispute with the latter company who sent me the worst hair system I've ever received. I really think the finger of why they do not last as long should be pointed at the makers and distributers as we can only do so much day to day in terms of personal care.

@@rignatz9799 No worries. I was keen to try Superhairpieces as I've had a mixed bag when it comes to quality from them but honestly never, never again. The system I was in dispute with was regard to a swiss lace with poly sides. The hairline was unwearable - black knots right along the front and due to the hair being relatively sparse even a blind man could tell it was a hair unit. Unbleached knots throughout the unit, looking like squashed black ants . Really it was awful but even worse ? The company's response and customer care. Only when I got my bank involved and made many comments on social media did I begin to make progress in obtaining a refund. I watch people like Jake and also one or two other hair system wearers but to be honest the only value I personally get is from Stickonhair who calls out inferior hair units, companies, customer care and details what makes a bad hair system plus his videos are so helpful as he is the only youtuber who seems to suffer and visually depict the highs and lows of wearing hair which I empathise with completely.

@@momentoftruth9827 Thanks for your message - that's good to know. For years I used to buy the M101 all poly from Superhairpieces but not for a while now. Recently I've bought stock pieces directly from a manufacturer in China - works out a lot cheaper and still get the piece in a week. Do you remember Jason from hairsystemtalk a couple of years ago? He was going to sell some pieces and gave me the number for a guy in China who once worked for Lordhair. The pieces have been good. I've noticed lately that SH pieces are a lot more active on social media esp with sending a piece for review to a TH-camr. Sorry to hear about your experience.

@@rignatz9799 Sure I recall Jason ! He was one of the better vloggers and had grand ideas and hoped he would follow through on his vision of having a company here in the UK to distribute hair systems. I have not seen any content him for a significant time and hope the guy is ok ! I like the idea of ordering direct from the manufacturer as it would cut down costs considerably - honestly I have been averaging one hair system per month over the past 18 months or so , largely due to the quality of them and have encountered so many issues. I was astonished some of these hair system make it past quality control. I personally have mine pre cut both by LH and SHP , mostly the former. I do find the hair quality worse than ever, my theory is that it is overly processed and dries out within a couple of weeks. Also youtubers like JK and others ( apart from Stickonhair ) never, ever talk about the poor quality of hair units, for example I've been going back to ploy and the 'corn rows' are so evident - I think you know what I mean plus the actual poly material is highly visible, almost white in appearance which makes these companies claims of systems being 'undetectable' a complete lie and trying to obtain a refund or even an exchange is almost impossible. I'd like to order direct to, avoid the middle man but do like the pre cut service, both of the actual system cut to size along with a hair cut. I'm actually really surprised to my knowledge, that there isn't a company in the UK who offers both quality units along with a pre cut styling service at a reasonable price. I really think they'd clean up !

    • @momentoftruth9827
      @momentoftruth9827 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Also a guy called 'Hair system DIY ' ( channel on here ) released a video this week similar to this one talking about how to make hair units last longer and yet again failing to cite the inferior and awful quality of many of them. There are tips to keep the systems relatively healthy and increase their lifespan but these vloggers miss the no.1 reason why they merely last a few weeks , 6 at best. Stickonhair is the only one in my view who really gives a window into what hair systems are all about, living with them day to day, the ups and downs, the poor quality of them, practical tips and experiments. I like Americans for their positivity a lot of the time but there is a time when they need to be more authentic and critical of hair systems in production and call out these companies.

@@JakeKent I use a mono base with PU perimeter. I have about an inch of frontal bio hair as my fringe which eliminates the need for an exposed hair line with the system. I use red tape on the PU perimeter and I take out my system every night before I sleep. I only wash and condition my hair once every 2-3 days. I try not to use hair spray or gel on my system unless it’s an important event like a wedding or interview. My work is mostly WFH so I only style my hair about 2-3 times a week. When I do style it I use warm setting on the blow dryer and then use a light hairspray to keep it in place. When I wear the system in the morning, I always make sure that the hairs that are sticking onto the tape, is carefully removed with isopropyl alcohol and not just torn off with a comb. This is to make sure that the density around the edges are not reduced. I also apply serum and argon oil. I think pretty much that’s it. I’m very delicate with its system. I’ve been wearing it since apr 2021 and I can see myself using it for at least the next 6-8 months.

It's OK if you work from home but day to day it's exhausting to keep the pretence up.

Who fucking cares. Next time it happens, a nice slap is always an option, and then go on about your day. There is nothing to be ashamed of. Nothing. You do something about a condition that bothers you. That's how every problem is solved. If you are content with you appearance (or you like it more than a shaved head), there is no reason to consider any other opinion.
