I think you will sound better and fuller with 75 % alc on peeks and more compression. I have found this from on air tests with my 7610. I run comp at 4 with mic gain at 45.
I've never understood why operators always tell other operators that their audio is great when it sounds like a 1920s telephone. Is it based upon clarity or intelligibility?
Excellent question. This should help. It is from a Adam: I adjust Drive Gain (DRIVE) in RTTY mode, with RF Power at 100W or 100% and it is not necessary to readjust the Drive Gain control when changing bands. See: www.ab4oj.com/icom/ic7700/drive.html Best 73!
Hello and great question. No the red bar extends 1/2 of the entire scale. I am referring to the red bar. 30% to 50% of the red bar. That is what I look for in mine. See: th-cam.com/video/WFat-4iUpl0/w-d-xo.html Best 73!
It's nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting. With the newer transceivers with a USB connection, I use their USB Audio CODEC when choosing a microphone in the broadcast software. I use OBS streaming software. Then in the radio settings I use the Monitor function and that will add my transmitted audio . GL and best 73!
One thing, your not setting drive gain correct. You set mic gain comp off. Turn comp on and adjust drive gain till alc is between 30-50% alc. I just got a 7610 and manual states this is how you set drive gain
Man, you encourage a lot to go to your website but the website has sooooo much ads that is so annoying!! I tried but quit, impossible to access the website from a smartphone with so many ads. I get it, ads give you revenue but turn it down a couple of clicks if you really wants people to visit.

Awesome thanks Rich. Sounding great!
What about the drive gain? I'm not sure how to balance the drive gain, mic gain, and compression

Your wga something r 2000 headset. You must be very proud.
You should turn the mic gain up when th compressor off. Then adjust compression. You sound like you're in a tin box.
The end of the ALC bar is actually 50%, so you are peaking 25%, I set my ALC to be at the end of the red alc bar, which is 50%
