    Brilliant!
    Singapore (and especially the Raffles Hotel) is close to perfection.
    Everything works; no government corruption; extremely low crime rate; no drugs or graffiti; and an honest, hard working population.
    Singapore has its critics, of course, but I find their way of life very refreshing.
    No soft on crime here.
    Well done, Singapore!
    I salute you. 👏👏👏

      Cheers Jim! I'm glad you liked the video. Yes Singapore is a wonderful spot. I worked there on and off in the mid-90's and early 2000's and had a ball. It was pretty cheap back then, not so cheap now (it was also the spot for our honeymoon 25 years ago!). Raffles is the real-deal and an amazing place to stay if you can. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment, it all helps our little channel get noticed. I salute you for your help! 👏👏👏

    This is an awesome video and has cemented my love for Raffles. After 37 years of going back and forth to Singapore to see family, I've always wanted to stay at Raffles. It may be very expensive, but now I am married and have some money my wife and I will be staying there for a few nights in October. p.s. you guys are very cute

      @calumsowhat thanks so much! Welcome to the Traveller family, your feedback and support mean the world to us ❤I'm happy you found us. Nice to know we're still cute after 25 years of marriage!🙂
      I hope you have a wonderful time in October, is it for a special occasion?
      Like we've shown, even the cheapest room in Raffles is still marvelous, they make you feel so special no matter what room you're staying in.
      Thanks again!

      Thanks Jabba, welcome to our little channel. it was a lot of fun to make and such a nice place to stay. We'll be back in Singapore soon I'm sure. Summer is on the way for you so can't be too far off. Remember there is no such a thing as bad weather, just a poor choice of clothing. There's a chill in the air here now as Autumn really kicks in and I think we've seen the last of the warm days. Take care over there and we'll see you all there next year!

      Oh Julie if only I could find another 900 of you! You are so precious to us we cannot thank you enough. Yes Raffles is a such magical place. We were lucky enough to stay there 5 years ago, and couldn't look past the opportunity to stay again and check out the renovations. OMG they have done it so well you would hardly know it hasn't always been that way. Obviously it's not a cheap place to stay but somehow you scrape together the money anyway! You'll be happy to know that The Long Bar is still there and still serving up magnificent Singapore Slings! If you want to check out our other channel Bar Humbug there's more of the Singapore trip to be found. Thanks so much again for your support

      @@MichaelBTraveller how far is the airport? Is transportation included for all rooms?

    • @MichaelBTraveller
      @MichaelBTraveller  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's about 20km (12mi) to the airport. Yes a one-way transfer is included but I think you have to book through the hotel direct. They'll also beat anyone elses advertised rate by 10%. A taxi is about S$20-30 from the airport and takes around 30 mins or there's also the MRT trains from the airport to City Hall and it's a 5 minute walk.

      No worries Anne, it was a lot of fun to make and we're so glad that people are enjoying the video. As to staying at Raffles you have to say YES! Here's our tip. This was actually our 2nd time staying there (we stayed for my birthday a few years back) and last time we paid extra for a palm court room, but this time we just went for the cheapest room they had. The cheaper room was better! It might have been a bit further from reception but it was bigger and better lit that the palm court room. I guess when you're staying at Raffles any room is a great room!

    Stupid question. Do you have to tip in Singapore? For instance the chauffeur that drove you. In Japan and Korea, it is not a custom to tip people, so I was kinda curious.

    • @MichaelBTraveller
      @MichaelBTraveller  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, good I'm fully qualified to answer stupid questions😁LOL. Tipping isn't generally part of the Singaporean culture. When you purchase something that has a service associated with it the bill will have ++ against the net price (known as "plus plus" locally). This means the total is the net price plus GST charge (7% Goods and Service Tax) and also plus a 10% Service Charge, which is supposed to cover the tip to the service provider. So unless you get extraordinary service, no tipping is required! There's also some debate on whether you can refuse the service charge if you think the service is bad, but I'll leave that to the local Singaporeans to fight! As tourists we just pay. Welcome to our little channel, and thanks for taking the time to comment, your support is really appreciated.
