    This video unpacks the brilliantly acted last scene of Season 2 Episode 3 where Rhaenyra Targaryen sneaks into the Grand Sept of Baelor to speak peace to Alicent Hightower. This scene reveals as much as it cloaks, and both Emma D'arcy and Olivia Cooke gave a sumptuous performance just with their faces.
    This video also mentions: Precarious Manhood Theory in psychology which was an emphasised theme in this episode--mayhaps underscored by one Aemond Targaryen.

    Emma D'Arcy is INCREDIBLE in this scene. Maybe their best performance of the whole series so far, which is really say something. Rhaenyra's look of "Ohhhhh....GODS DAMMIT, Alicent" after the the two of them realize the truth of what happened is just brilliant.

      While I agree that they have been absolutely amazing, I think their acting was really exemplified and ability shown to be outstanding in the scene where Rhaenyra discovered Daemon had gotten the boy killed by blood and cheese, or that it was his plotting rather. The anger and facial expressions and just pure emotion in that scene really sold them more for me, even though they were already sold for me since season one. Rhaenyra actor is just getting better and better every episode!!

      @@gurbgerbthat was another acting highlight from them from this episode. Emma had said in an interview during their lengthy auditions they had to give a virtuoso performance to many scenes. I don't think they stopped doing virtuosic performances

    I know that this scene is over the top and it didn’t really make sense, but I still really liked it. Not only are the actors both wonderful, the relationship between these two is at the core of the show. They needed to have another scene together before the fighting began, even if the circumstances don’t quite make sense.

    This is the worst plot in this show, the most important woman on westeros randomly shows up to the regent in the middle of like 20k soldiers and like 2 dragons and alicent is like nah girl its fine leave, we will sacrifice tens of thousands of lives another day, not to mention you had my grandson decapitated, its all good gurl

      @@Psychratic_JMB Probably, but wouldn’t it be too panicky, trying to help Aegon II escape during the Fall of King’s Landing? Alicent would be hard pressed to find precious alone time to visit the Grand Sept at that time. Rhaenyra would probably want to claim what’s rightfully hers after sacking the greens too. Hmm…

    Emma is one of the best actors I’ve seen, ever. Everyone in the show is fantastic but for some reason Emma’s performance seems like it is a notch higher. Even with great actors, like Olivia Cooke, you can tell that their performance is ever so slightly inauthentic and some moments can feel a little contrived. Like they had planned out all of the beats ahead of time and are going through the motions rather than being guided by their impulses. That’s not the case with Emma. I believed every single second of Emma’s performance.

    • @rebshannonling
      @rebshannonling  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      To me, it's Emma's excellent control of subtle microexpressions and using very appropriate non-verbal movements (remember the clawing at her abdomen in s1e10?) that kept nailing the character and scene right

      They have been the ones attending the council and thinking of their strategy to win the war. What else do you expect both of them to do? They are their Queens. You lose the Queen, you lose the War. Are you dumb?
      *Tell me you're cringe without telling me you're cringe.*
      What do you expect from them to do? Just ride out with their dragons to their opposing sides home? You realize if Alicent goes to Dragonstone, Daemon will burn her alive, right? Same with Rhaenyra if she goes to Kings Landing with Aegon and Aemond's dragon. When you declare war, do you send the Kings/Queens first? Cringe asf. an actual idiot

    I know this scene wasn't in the books, but I personally think it's really important for the story they're trying to tell. It's clear they're trying to make Rhaenyra and the Blacks the good guys. Therefore, she needs to be a little bit more conflicted about outright marching to war. This scene is the culmination of her inner and outer conflicts and really provides a pushing point to go forward with the war.

      The message that I think they're trying to convey here is that this war, as all wars, are born of confusion, stupidity and, most of all, lack of communication. This is why I think they added this scene that wasn't in the books and I think it's awesome that they did.

    I cringed at this scene. Absolutely nonsensical for Rhaenyra to risk her life, the lives of her bannermen, and possibly abandon her family just to do a Mission Impossible stunt. Lunacy. George RR Martin would never do something like this.
