It’s kind of hard to tell. Maybe there would’ve been more wars if the UN wasn’t around. But I guess we’ll never find out. I at least like the idea of the UN. I suppose its existence is a net positive for the world.
@Karl Quetzacoatl and what do you think would happen if the UN would just say fuck it, you can all do however you please? The world is complicated. Every nation wants puts their own needs in front of everyone elses. Imagine no one would give a fuck (just like a few hundreds years back) and all nations only look out for themselves. You would get war after war after war. The reason we have it fairly good these days is because of world trade(look at north korea - no trade, no communication to other countries = miserable country), the UN makes sure everyone has a voice and can be heard and I am quite sure that there main goal is today to keep the communicaton open between countries so trade won't get interrupted and trigger a war. Yes the system is rigged within the UN, which does suck but its the best we got at the moment(again every nation only cares about themselves). Just be grateful be alive now and not a a few hundreds years back. You know how the mongols dealt with countries/cities which didn't do as they pleased? The murdered half of the population. Every soldier had to kill a certain amount of people at random. After that you can imagine that no one raised their voice anymore against the mongols and just did exactly what they were told.
The one instance where the UN nearly failed it's goal of preserving peace was the Korean War fought in the early 1950s with the US forming an entire coalition in cooperation against communist forces invading the area nearly starting a global confrontation between the superpowers until a agreement was reached in 1953 to end the violence.
Mr. Beat's Social Studies Channel maybe the "weed for Jesus" t shirt school trip case. I don't remember all the details. It's been a while since I took a constitutional law class in undergrad. But honestly, there can't be enough Supreme Court videos. Happy to see you tackling it
Yeah Russia lost almost 15 million soldiers wounded and dead during 1941-1945, that doesn't matter......lets forget that history, this video is already bunk at 2:30. OP Mr. Beat needs to read a book. I won't waste my time clicking when I see this guy as the creator. stay away!
The UN doesn´t sound very democratic. And I would like to know more about what the critics have to say about it. Other than that, informative on a general level.
The UN isn't supposed to be a world government. In theory, it's supposed to help nations open dialogue and coordinate policy like international law. The UN has basically no authority other than what its member states give it, mainly the United States.
The UN is what I would call a proto-proto-state, it is a loose organization with little power, but COULD be reformed into a powerful body. It isn't democratic because it has no citizens, it isn't an International government, it is a meting place for nations to discus each issue that concerns them; trying to claim the UN is bad because of its failures, is really just blaming the International community for being incompetent, which has some truth to it.
Have you seen any country try to invade the territory of another to make it part of their own like countries did in ww2 (Which the League of Nations failed to prevent)? I sure haven't, but please correct me if I'm wrong about anything.
When it comes to the League of Nations who should also have mentioned that although the United States helped build it they didn’t actually ever become a part of the organisation because Congress never agreed. The Treaty for this Organisation was part of the treaty of Versailles which (again) was never signed by the US. This had as a result an unstable structure from its beginning and birth, since the country (the US) that allegedly wanted the international organization to ensure piece never became a part of.
It was mostly China's fault for failure to cooperate, but the WHO does have a corruption problem, although overall the WHO has prevented many pandemics from becoming global, but this time failed because of China.

United nations have been unsuccessful in solving the Kashmir and Palestine issue. two of the main issues of this world and without solving these two issues the world cannot be fully a safer place.

Yet it doesn't even do that. It's creation was to prevent wars and yet has stopped none. It has done ZERO good for the world.

How was that a failure of the UN? The United Nations fought for South Korea's freedom too

Yeah about that....
The UN doesn´t sound very democratic. And I would like to know more about what the critics have to say about it. Other than that, informative on a general level.
Same with the USA senate. The majority leader has veto power before bill even gets looked at. It's terrible and not very democratic at all.
The UN is filled of unelected bureaucrats.
Then again, many of the UN member states are autocracies themselves.

I thought the Korean War was a UN mission. The US provided most, but not all of the troops. As I recall, other countries contributed forces as well.
It was, but Americans are too stupid to comprehend it
