Defy came 3 years before the Royal Oak.In fact, GP actually had the Laureto on the drawing board before the RO. This is not a RO homage, it is a homage to their earliest model and it is better looking than the RO IMO.

Absolutely agree! This is NOT a copy of the RO. Anybody denying this, has no clue about history of these watches. All watches of these days have similiatities to other watches and brands. So what?! IMO this is a killer! It checks all the boxes! Loving it!

Point of view not un-valid but if you eliminated all that you knew about the brands, the models and any history then simply put them side by side and chose the better looking watch, I'd pick the defy. The second dial is just so neatly done, the finish is just as good and the visible screw heads on the Royal Oak demand a subjective response since they are not a form that follows a function; they're a superficial affectation used only to create a visible demarcation between it and others. That's not cool, Walter Gropius would've kicked that out. I think also I'm right in saying that a Defy from the late 60's had a similar geometric bezel and surely this justifies their looking to their own back catalogue?

I dont think they trying to copy AP. All brands now are interested to produce sport watch with integrated bracelet after seeing AP's and Patek's success. Just name it, Bell and Ross, GP, Zenith, even Lange, IWC, Chopard, etc..
I understand what you're saying. But I only see it acceptable for very small brands who are just trying to get "inspired" so that they can blow up and taste some success. For a brand like Zenith, no. We need originality. Yes a lot of brands have this integrated look but why did they have to make that dial though?! It screams Royal Oak
@@romanmoruz zenith is no different than any other brands I mentioned. Yes zenith has legendary movement and their revival series are very success. Good company must try to do something out of the box. Some product will fail (AP with code 11:59?) and some will succees. I appriciate Zenith for at least trying.
About the dial, yes it looks like AP tappiserie dial, but it looks bloody nice. They dont come up with the design completely ouf of their true identity though
I think that you’re not correct on the IWC. They are one of the original designed by Genta so they have history compared to the others.

@@vintagedigital108 Genta designed the AP RO and the Patek Nautilus and Omega Constellation and Bvlgari Octo and IWC Golf and IWC Igeniuer. He designed tons of watches. Genta is allowed to draw inspiration from his previous designs in my opinion whereas others copying his designs is less legitimate.
Love the watch. Not a copy of the Royal Oak but a modern remake of their 1969 model (which Audemars Piguet probably copied 3 years later). There are many more TH-cam channels that are more balanced and informative than yours. Anyone can sit in their living room and spew ignorant comments about watches. But they don’t deserve to have a wide audience. Unsubscribe and Unlike.

Also.. companies typically create watches that are inspired by others because it allows their true brand loyalists to buy a watch in that design from them. It's why royal oak created its design originally. It was inspired by zenith im sure. Good video though
The second hand which makes a complete revolution in 10 sec. is the only peculiarity . That is really special.

Problem is most don't know the RO is closer to an homage to the Zenith A3642 which came out 3 years before the RO... Sure, the new Zenith trying to grab some of the attention the RO now getting, but that does not change who copied, I mean "homaged" who... I don't care at all about the RO but would like to own a Zenith Defy Skyline.
agree. I also mentioned this in the video. Zenith initially came out with the multiple side bezel and all that good stuff but somehow it wasn't a success for them. I would also love to own a Defy but definitely not the skyline
Correct. Same with the claims the chronomaster sport copied the Daytona - Zenith provided the movement for Daytonas for a decade before Rolex was able to design the 4130 in house. Zenith has some serious horological prowess and they don't get near the credit they deserve which this video is a perfect example of.

This watch is beautiful. I actually like it better than the RO. Thats just me though. My favorite holy trinity is Vacheron.
I’m watching this video a year later and sure enough they give us aquanat with their new pilot watch all good looking nice watches but so much copying
There is no problem when a great watchmaker brand like Zenith offer people gorgeous watches that the big brands can't offer in their always empty Boutiques, before you cast your nonsense opinion, go see the watch and try it. I saw it in flesh, the finish even surpasses what RO has.

i agree chronomaster is more of a copy of daytona. but this design actually has it's own DNA. yes, this is a genta esque design. but the 12 sided bezel, star dial and the bracelet are all zenith's own design even with nice history behind it. you can't say if you can't see the dial pattern clearly from far away then it looks too similar to RO tapestry dial. if your argument is true, i could say all the skeleton dial looks the same, even all the watch dial looks the same from far away. comparing to some other brands, the laureato copied the octagonal bezel, the piaget polo copied nautilus bracelet and case shape. zenith actually did a pretty good job. a complete trash? that's too harsh.
I think the Defy Skyline looks better than the Royal Oak - my only hesitation on the Skyline is the thickness. Will it be too thick? No dealers around me to try one on :(

Just get a Maurice Lacroix. Looks even more modern than a royal oak for under 2 grands with 200 meters and a fast removeable bracelet.

the defy classic is great , it only need some improvements. Maybe the easy change bracelet, and more power reserve. it could have been flawless . the movement makes no sense . that little thing running like crazy is annoying. it definitely looks more like a copy of a AP than a reinterpretation of their own model

@@romanmoruz Patek borrowing design elements from the RO is different because the Patek Nautilus was designed by Genta who designed the AP. Genta designed both the Patek and AP so he is drawing inspiration from his own designs not ripping someone off. He also designed watches for IWC and Bvlgari and Omega. I think Genta designing a watch drawing inspiration from his other designs is kinda different than someone else homaging Genta's designs.
