  • Got to test out the 2019 Yamaha YZ450F today and compare to to my 2019 Honda CRF450R! A few of you guys have been asking me what I think about the new Yamaha 450, so I'm pretty stoked to give you guys my thoughts on it. Really impressed with this bike. Hope you guys enjoy!
    Fastest Lap Times:
    Honda: 1:17.80
    Yamaha: 1:19.55 (1.75 sec slower)
    I only did about 5 laps on the Yamaha, so I probably could have dropped that time with a few more laps under my belt.

    Before buying my 2019 Crf450 I was looking at the Yamaha and I gotta say that you are spot on! The biggest downside of the yamaha for me was the small cockpit and This is the reason why I went with the Honda. Honda's suspension is fixable but yamaha cockpit hardly!

    Man I could have stood in for you on this video lol.. I knew exactly what you were gonna say about it before you said it. I own the new Honda an I've rode the yzf an the ktm an the kxf an I was blown away by how easy the clutch is compared to the hondas, the feel on the yzs clutch is litterally just as easy as the hydraulic clutch on the ktm! I absolutly hate the clutch on my crf450 after riding the yz an the ktm which I knew the ktm would be easier due to the hydro clutch.. but never thought the YZ450 wit a reg cabel clutch would be almost identical in pull weight an feel between the ktm an the yz.. But the hondas 10 times harder to pull in. It causes arm pump so much faster. But the Honda is way more powerful the bottom end is unreal on the Honda. But in all honesty I had to re valve my forks to get them feeling better an added a steering stabalizer off my 2014 CRF450R an it made a world of diffrence! Now if I could just figure out what yamaha has figured out on there clutches an get mine to feel as good as the yamahas the Honda would be unbeatable! I dont wanna go to a hydraulic clutch so I've been studying on it alot. An Steve litz at Litz Racing has came up with a diffrent actuator arm that give more leverage and also re routes your clutch cable and it reduces clutch pull weight up to 50%. Ima give that a try b4 I spend a few hundred going to a hydro clutch. Hinson has a similar system that extends your actuator arm an reroutes your cabel but it's as much as a hydraulic. But give Steve litz a call at Litz Racing an he will hook u up with a 50% softer pull than stock an that's a big difference! Youd have to call tho cause he dosent have them on his web page because he stays so busy he dosent have time to mess with the web page so it's best to call. Hes a Honda guy to the core. So he has alot of little things to help make the hondas better, that he makes in house kinda like how JGR (Joe Gibbs racing) is they do it all in house an make all of there own parts.

    But one point is confusing me pretty hard right now...
    Space between footpegs and seat top is lower on the Yamaha?????
    Whaaaat🙈🙈🙈
    As i hopped on a factory CRF 450 from 18, the only thing i couldnt get comfortable with was how freakin small the space between footpegs and seat was.
    Legs were kinda cramped and couldnt really grip the bike with my knee bc of that..(im 188cm or 6.2+)
    Back on my yzf 250 17 it felt like i had double the space compared to the crf.
    So its really fuckin my mind right now that u had more space on the Honda haha
    Gotta admit that tge yzf got lower ( 10mm mid seat, 18mm backer seat) but still...

    @imsroll 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hard to compare them stock to stock when you are on a RWE lol.... Hand ported head? DLC coated fork tubes and shock shaft? In all rights that honda should most definitely have been faster motor wise and it is a shame that you found the suspension on the Yz better, as it is a 15 year old fork design vs Hondas flagship (works replica) spring fork... I own a 19 Honda and rode a buddies 18 YZ and had nearly the same outcome, Honda has a pitiful, unreliable and unpredictable clutch, suspension is great but slightly lacking next to the SSS fork, rear shocks are both good however.
    Sweet video though!
    Super nice to see someone who can actually ride a dirt scooter talk about them verses the people who can not get around the parking lot with both feet on the pegs talk about "the suspension just didnt work well for me, it's junk"

The stock set up isn’t a problem either just not as dampened as the counter balance in the ktm. BUT. That being the only thing that can easily be fixed I like it way more than my KTM. In my mind the craftsmanship and all around balance of the bike through the woods is better. I liked my KTM but I love my Gas Gas. Check out my vid!

      Everything! haha. Porting, piston, valves, exhaust, ignition, camshaft, etc...It was a ripper for sure! Still think that Yamaha had Honda covered in the 250 department in 2018, but the 2019 CRF250Rs are looking pretty good.

      The 2019 yzf 250 is also far better than the previous ones.
      The 19 crf thoe had improved on its biggest flaw, the lack of bottom end.
      Still not near to the yzf's bottom end thoe

      Vincent Sauer I just don’t know if the handling of the Honda is worth getting one and then doing some mods. I don’t completely gel with the old Yamaha but I haven’t ridden the new one.

    "Both being stock" meaning a CRF450RWE (not a CRF450R) vs a YZ450F with a FMF slip-on or did it have a full exhaust?

    • @JeffWalker84
      @JeffWalker84  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Stock meaning no motor work or suspension work. Aftermarket exhausts do next to nothing for performance which is why they're allowed in the stock class at nationals. Furthermore, the goal of this video wasn't to put two stock bikes head-to-head to see which is better. It's just to compare how I like the Yamaha vs the Honda. It just so happened that they were both stock.
      But while we're at it, don't forget to point out the aftermarket handlebars and graphics. Those add 5 horsepower at least and completely invalidate this video!!

      @JeffWalker84  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm 6'1" 170lbs. Like I said in the video, the Honda cockpit is definitely bigger than the yamaha, but you can always grab some lowering foot pegs for the blue machine and it would be much better.

      @@JeffWalker84 right on same height. its refreshing to get an opinion from someone other than a journalist with a low level of experience. there aren't many reviews from fast unbiased riders who actually take the time to go over what settings work. I'm looking at the stock 18 crf but going with KYB kit suspension over the 19 with rwe suspension. what are your thoughts? I know you said the 19 is faster.

    • @JeffWalker84
      @JeffWalker84  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would take the 18 with KYB any day! I think the KYB is just miles ahead of Showa right now. The Works Edition does have a little more power for sure, but throw a high compression piston in the 18 and you're set!

    I know Yamaha did a lot of advancements in making it feel not as wide and suite smaller riders. I bought an 18 last season and as a taller rider I liked the 14-17 model better. My 18 YZ450F was a complete lemon and had nothing but bad luck ranging from a replacement motor, starter clutches, and valves. Yamaha has built their brand on reliability and I got short shafted. Moving over to a 19 CRF450 for the upcoming season. You tear it up man!
