It's so refreshing to see an Olympic dressage horse being schooled in a plain snaffle. So many people use rolkur and strong bits to pull them into "collection" as these people call it. Charlotte's rein contact was little and her seat was light. This pair really deserved those medals.
Nonsense. The curb is a gentler bit as this level. It's communicating a signal as opposed to pulling his head around. Really, think about it. Sure, anyone can abuse anything, and yes, the snaffle is less abused by an abusive rider, but Lottie Frye? C'mon.

And the modern enthusiasts such as someone like Henry Fleming. But all, not to take away from the hard work and relationships of Prussian style either. It's all about the horses and people. One thing I have to slightly disagree with and not understand in GP dressage is why they HAVE TO wear a double bridle. Here's Charlotte schooling Valegro in a loose ring snaffle and he's going amazingly yet they must compete in a double? Why?

Interesting short documentary, but one observation: anybody saying that you don't need much money to do this sport is delusional , one only needs to look at the facilities, the quality of the horses and the level of luxury at their yard. In a previous interview she said herself that big money was not needed - absolute disingenuous rubbish. All the best riders are heavily sponsored and rarely own the top horses. This applies to eventing and of course show jumping too. Also none of these people work, they just ride all day so where do they earn a living? They don't because they are all paid to ride at this level; that's what lottery funding and sponsorship does.If they had to do a 9-5 job, they would not have the time nor the energy to put in the training.
I think her point is that she didn't start out with tons of money. She wasn't the daughter of a millionaire that became an Olympian because daddy bought her the best horses. She worked hard until her talent was recognized, and now she is able to do what she loves for a career.

Charlotte has ridden since a tiny child and she did not go to Carl Hester as some naive novice, she was already a very accomplished rider. Yes, she did work in the stables as well but she also got to ride a lot otherwise she never would have reached such an advanced level of dressage.
Yes, because worked hard to become an accomplished rider. Does getting picked up to ride with a professional somehow make you rich? Absolutely not. Her mom even did an article where she talks about how hard they worked to make sure their daughter could keep riding because she was talented. Buying a horse with inheritance money when her grandmother died hardly counts as proving that you need a lot of money to compete at high levels.
I completely agree. As soon as I went to college I didn't have a penny in my name and so I had to sell my horse and focus on school. For about 5 years my mom paid a cheap local barn to give me lessons and she bought me my own horse, but after a while it was obviously clear that I would have to stop. It still breaks every single bit of my heart that I can't ride anymore. I even started an official grooming business to try to make my own money and pay for everything but it went down hill and here I am. I lost my very best friend and my passion in life because I don't have Nearly enough money to do this sport.
Anjounet Leavell I had to give it up too, but i went to school, got a good job, and bought a horse. I went to school, worked hard at a job that paid well BECAUSE I wanted horses. Make it happen.

Nicola Kerslake Such ignorance. No horse can score well if spurs are used improperly - if spurs are improperly applied it affects everything in the training pyramid. Spurs are used to refine aids, not to cause 'shame' with their action.
