Someone just pointed me at your channel yesterday. Very cool. You might have figured this out, but at 10:30 your glue is kicking off early because you preheated it. EA-40's working time is spec'd at 75° F. When working with epoxies, halve the working/cure time for every 17° above the reference temperature.

Been doing some extensive research on how to build my first homemade trad bow/long bow because it's something that has intrigued my inner primitive desire to be self reliant to be able to sustainably live completely off the land while not having to suffer and without being completely uncomfortable!!! Your video has answered most of the few unanswered questions I still had!!! Thank you very very much, keep up your amazing talent making bows, and hopefully one day sooner than later we can put the bows we handmade to use to survive off the land together and make a video about the journey!!!! Who knows,it would be an honor and make a boyhood dream become a reality as an older guy!!!
Kramer, I am currently working on my second go at bow making since seeing one of your videos inspired me to begin this process. I have moved from poplar to oak and am currently tillering the bow ( very slowly, since I killed the first bow by tillering the limbs down to much on accident ) Wish me luck and keep up the good work!
Wow, I never even imagined that Ipê was a prized wood out there! In Brazil, we literally see it a lot of it in forests and in some cities, used as a decorative tree. Both Ipê amarelo and Ipê roxo have beautiful coloured flowers, and always seeing it as decorative/native tree, I couldn't expect it was prized in some woodworking contexts. Anyway, beautiful job! Gotta try that!
You might give surgical tubing a try for clamping. You might find it easier to work with than the bike tubes. You can get it at Brownells. It comes in several sizes and lengths. Another source for tubing is those expanding water hoses. That suck at being water hoses but the tubing on the inside is pretty cool
I’ve been watching you Since your earlier videos. My 1st board bow attempt was a massive fail (big surprise). After that I bought a bowfishing rig To use as a hobby and also as a way to learn and hone my archery skill, which I must say I’ve gotten pretty good. I’m finally starting on 2nd attempt at a board bow. And a side attempt at making a 2 piece takedown Osage selfbow. I even fabricated my own 2 piece metal handle. What I would like very much is to take a Dear This season with a bow that I built. .kramer Thank you for all the lessons that you’ve taught me so far And your positivity is always appreciated buddy ✌️
Love your channel. You should invest in a planer or a jointer preferably both. I know these were your first videos, but a good idea. I don’t make bows but it would save you a hell of a lot of time and be more precise than using a belt sander to make flat.

Since the shut down in the UK and after being inspired by one of your videos I started making a bow as a project with my 6 year old son. On my first few Bamboo backed bows (about 25 years ago) I used the inner tube trick. It worked very good. Now I use a bucket full of 4 inch spring clamps spaced about 2 inches or so apart alternating side to side. That eliminates the plastic wrap and I can see that the bamboo stays on the lines. I still use the blue tape on the back but if you are careful it's not necessary.
Would love to see a video specifically on tillering, I’ve made three bows over the last few weeks based on your downloadable template and I’ve snapped them all because I’m not sure how to tiller properly. Very annoyed at myself 😭😂 help me out bro !

This is very fascinating. I love to handmake things. I've always been a metal fabricator but in my old age I'm drawn to fabbinģ wood and have always loved bows.
I use pre-tapered lams in mine, yew /hickory with Bamboo backing . I use Smooth-on and glue them up pretty much the same way . Only difference is that mine come out pre-tillered , I use a 1/4 inch round off router bit to round out the belly . When I string them up they take very little work to tiller, I just take it easy the first while to warm them up a while before hitting that full draw .

My first time ever picking up a bow and an arrow I split my trainers arrow in half down the bullseye it was pretty awesome and it was a hunting Arrow. I mean I'll pay for it but it would be nice I've never won anything or even had anything given to me from TH-cam ever. But I am currently waiting for a bow and arrow to arrive in the mail your soon. but yes I would highly appreciate and it would be put to wonderful use. If I could get that bow it would be put to good use.

If a project comes your way that requires adding vacuum clamping stuff to your collection you'll be finding new ways to put it to work long before you even read the instructions. I used the clamps galore then the rubber straps method until luck dropped a series of machine builds for a helicopter structural repair shop. Of all the toys they used regularly it was Clecos and vacuum bag clamping that awoke my tech scavenging gene. That was many moons ago and since then I've asked my vacuum pump to do things it was never told about when it was just a wee little sucker. It hasn't failed yet, there always seems to be air ready to fill any holes it vacuums empty. Using the air to hold stuff is kinda cool when you think about it. I guess I just had one of those thought things that happen from time to time when watching someone who's really in to what they're doing. Keep it going. Peace.
Ipe is technically the world's hardest wood. It comes out of the Amazon. I use it for knife scales (handles) and the stuff is indestructible. Even my kitchen knives that have been through a dishwasher many times haven't aged a day.

One of the coolest things I’ve seen a bow made out of, and this was years ago was a leafspring from a pick up truck. They added on a wooden handle but had to cut down the leafspring to narrow and it was really sick. I do not know what the poundage was on it with the pool any of those details.. Maybe you are to try making a bow out of a car leaf spring. This was out of the vehicle from the 70s. Good luck with it I think you could do something amazing with it.
My third and only successful stave bow, is decrowned Hazel Wood stave. It is about 70lbs and still has the bark on the edges. Horrible to shoot but I made it! :)

I'm left handed and handcrafted LH bows, are a lot harder to find, looking into making my own. Your videos are good, but your enthusiasm to help others is even better. 2 thumbs up! Subscribed and eagerly waiting for your next video
I would suggest more layers of bamboo with 45deg joining in center of bow tapering to the tips of the limbs. This makes the bow much much stronger and gives the needed flex ibility when spanned. Also sanding it with to fine grid before glue, gives the glue no bonding properties and maxed wood on wood thats not good. Glue is also causing issues when going higher with draw weight, solution to this i found to be epoxy. Bit more costly but totally worth it. Hope this helps as you solved some of my issue through your videos

Or you can Build and set up a jig on your band saw, like a stop block set From the thickness you want your material to the bandsaw blade . This will allow you to cut consistent tips throughout the material. If you have one side that already flat, it will work fine. You can even clamp down a piece of wood on your bandsaw table. That will be used as a guide just like a table saw.
you might want to consider in investing in a resaw set up. this will help with cutting boards like you suggest in this video. your bandsaw might have an attachment or you can build a fence to do the same thing.

A trick I learned to keep freshly glued wood from sliding around is to put a tiny pinch of salt between the pieces. It bites into both pieces of wood when you clamp them and makes your life a whole lot easier.
I had one completely tillered and finished out. After making a string for it, I went to string it up, and it broke. It was so heart breaking, I couldn't bring myself to throw the pieces away for months. I kept it on the kitchen counter and admired the beautiful travesty.

DMT, GHB, molly, coke, lsd and shrooms it's all fun and games with those, stay off the meth and the heroin and you'll be just fine through life.

I don't think normal Titebond 2 or 3 would do the job. Bamboo is a grass and there for does not like water based glues and ipe is so hard and oily I doubt it would even stick.
I am very relieved to have found your channel! Thank you! I am hoping for guidance, I have my grandfathers bows, late 50's, handmade by him as reflex deflex bows. I had brought them to a local bowyer and he thought to them be perfectly made . Takedowns no less. I had had strings made for them also. it has been many years again and I am quite concerned about destroying family treasures. Can they be rejuvinated;used again?

I have some question for you about bamboo: do you start from the rod, or you purchase directly rod's section? can you give some hint to choose the right rod: what diameter to consider, knot spacing range, thicknss of the bamboo wall to get the right size for lamination. Hi Kramer. I’d like your comment on something. Here in Japan I was at a loss on what materials to use but I do have a lot of bamboo available. So I decided to laminate bamboo on bamboo. It’s worked out very well, though I haven’t shot it yet. (Waiting to receive arrows and strings. Yep, total beginner!) Do you have any experience with these materials together?

Living I'm Brazil. For me is much easier to find ipe and bamboo than other woods like Osage or hickory. I can't wait to make my first bow
Luiz: living in Brazil you can find Ipé or Jatobá. Bamboo+Ipé or Bamboo+Jatobá are killer combinations!

If you are not breaking a bow once in a while, you are not making bows. Happens once in a while, that's why they are precious.

I don't think normal Titebond 2 or 3 would do the job. Bamboo is a grass and there for does not like water based glues and ipe is so hard and oily I doubt it would even stick.

I am very relieved to have found your channel! Thank you! I am hoping for guidance, I have my grandfathers bows, late 50's, handmade by him as reflex deflex bows. I had brought them to a local bowyer and he thought to them be perfectly made . Takedowns no less. I had had strings made for them also. it has been many years again and I am quite concerned about destroying family treasures. Can they be rejuvinated;used again?

Hi Kramer, I got experience in woodworking but never tryied to make a bow, now I'm wondering to try building one laminated bow bamboo/wood. I have some question for you about bamboo: do you start from the rod, or you purchase directly rod's section? can you give some hint to choose the right rod: what diameter to consider, knot spacing range, thicknss of the bamboo wall to get the right size for lamination. Just to start the right way. All what will follows is experience. Thank you.

Hi Kramer. I’d like your comment on something. Here in Japan I was at a loss on what materials to use but I do have a lot of bamboo available. So I decided to laminate bamboo on bamboo. It’s worked out very well, though I haven’t shot it yet. (Waiting to receive arrows and strings. Yep, total beginner!) Do you have any experience with these materials together?
