Sweet lime. We have three small plants. Two were grown from seeds by a family friend. No fruit as yet of course. Happy for any tips to boost their growth. Flavour isn’t something which is affected by environment is it?
Nothing like a good belly laugh while being educated on sour fruit. Lol. Keep the videos coming. Im enjoying your input (and humour) :) I have 2 lemonade, 1 Meyer lemon, 3 different mandarin and 2 orange varieties. Waiting for first fruiting on most of them.
The Ponderosa lemons can be entertaining when you think they are a grapefruit. My dad came down to Florida a few years ago for Thanksgiving. We found Ponderosa lemons at a fruit stand in the West Palm Beach area. I bought some and sent them back up to Pennsylvania with him. He gave them to friends and family up there and did not particularly describe what they were. My sister got one from him and thought they were grapefruit, so she packed it in her husband's lunch. He got a big surprise!
I have been bingeing your videos because I am wanting to improve my growing techniques and I am so delighted to see so many varieties of fruit i have never tried. I doubt I could get any citrus to grow where I live until i get a dedicated greenhouse but this video was delightful!
Great vid. 😀 My favourite is the Cara Cara Navel. Great tasting fruit! Then of course, the king of citrus IMO, the varieties of mandarin. Can’t go wrong really! Except when you get a dry one. Haha
Pink Lemonade lemons are beautiful and unique. Normal lemon flavor but they are very pink on the inside. The lemon itself is light yellow with green stripes on the outside. The leaves of the tree are green and whitish. The whole tree is lovely to look at.
As always your videos are great, you should consider adding citrus glauca and its hybrids to your collection, I own an eremorange and an eremolemon that have yet to fruit but they look so unique and different from other citrus, also the crushed eremorange leaves have a super strong mandarin smell. The fruits should also be very unique
Thanks Lucy. Those do look very interesting! Not sure if they’re available in NZ but will look into it. Would definitely be a cool one to grow. Thanks heaps :)
I got 3 Makrut fruits 1 week ago and they contained abt. 90 seeds, which I try to germinate. The other thing - the taste description of KiwiGrower is pretty perfect, as this spicy dumb making taste was what I felt too. Despite the many seeds I got 120ml from these three fruits, which I suspended 1:1 with water, to create a great lemonade. Also, these fruit seems to contain a large amount of Pectin, which should make a great adding to create marmalades! And as a surplus I have dried the rinds which I will use to make a Makrut-based kind of Earl Grey tea, as they do really have a unique aromatic profile! Greetings from Germany
Thank you for your videos. They are very educational and have really inspired me to grow more. By the way, one of my favorite citrus fruits are kumquats! They are sweet and sour, a perfect combination. :)

Great video mate, so good to see the good old Lemonade. I have great memories of them from an old house we lived in so I bought 30 of the lol. We are into our second year of planting with 2 oranges and 2 Meyer lemons. Funny you didn't like the makrut lime, i have one in some tea every other night cause supposedly they are good for gut health.
Hi Pedro, haha 30 of them! That's awesome. Cool that you're getting quite a few citrus trees in. Maybe I'll try the Makrut lime in tea, I'm sure it will be less intense that just biting into it!
My lemonade detox: glass coconut water, half lemon squeezed, slice of ginger shredded. I add slice pink grapefruit or orange if it's in a nutribullet mug size.
When I squeeze kaffirs on my plastic juicer they leave a sticky residue that is very hard to wash off. The young leaves are tender when cooked in Thai soups but the darker the leaves get the tougher they are. I use finely shredded kaffir peel in cooking as well.
The white inner flesh ( under the skin ) of Ponderosa is very sweet and you can actually peeloff the external rind and eat the white flesh! We grow these a lot here in Northern Haryana, India, and the ponderosa are great for making lemon pickles. The picked have a bit of sweetness which is just so good!
@@TheKiwiGrower Yes its a tropical fruit that comes around in Late-Mid October here in Pakistan and India. I hope that someday maybe you can try it as well. Nice collection of lemons and limes you got there. When you grow your citrus trees do you leave them to grow a single trunk or is a multi trunk from the base of the tree above the graft ok? Anyways, great video and it will be interesting to see the other citrus fruits you have to share.
Cheers Toby. Generally a single trunk but with it branching out fairly low to create a shrub type of shape rather than a typical tree shape with higher up growth

A common lime we have in Malaysia is the calamansi lime. We eat prawns with a dipping sauce of calamansi lime juice, soy sauce, and fresh chilli. Me, being dumb, used makrut limes as a substitute assuming that their fragrance means they taste good too. Ruined a good few prawns doing that. Good to know it wasn't just me.
Just came across this video by chance. I just planted a bearss kamrut and a tahitian lime. Curious to know the tanginess of the bearss lime compared to other limes.
haha yum! Key limes are not a cold hardy citrus unfortunately so your best bet would be to grow in a container and bring it indoors during Winter and still provide it with good amounts of sunlight. But there are more cold hardy citrus options that might be more suitable, All the best :)
you should try brazilean Citrus × limonia, i think this is it cientific name, over here we have a lot of names for it, my region calls ir devil´s lemon, and it tastes fricking amazing!!! its a cross between tangerine and a lemon.
Miracle berries are very sad at the moment unfortunately. I'll try and save them but I'm not sure they'll survive :(. I've just got one of the almond trees now, I cut it back hard last year as I wasn't happy with it's shape, so will see how it goes this year
Hi it’s the first time I saw you , I got one Meyer lemon 🍋 tree but wonder how longer it takes for get fruit? My tree it’s 2 years old & nothing no lemon 🍋 yet Thank you
If you grew it from seed, they can take a very long time, but it can vary. Have heard sometimes as long as 10 years for them. Also, Meyer lemon are a cross between citron and mandarin, so the eventual fruit won't likely be the same. If the tree you have is a grafted nursery tree it should only take around 2 years :)
If you have the chance to try Pomelo from the Asian Regions, they’re very sweet. Also the Calamansi, a Filipino citrus that’s a cross between an orange and a lime, and Dalayap or Dayap, another Filipino citrus that’s mostly similar to limes but they have a distinct taste to them
Kalem, thanks. lol at the supper sour ones. Had no idea about the racial slur per Makrut. The important part of the lemon is the thin outer skin, zest. So intense for ice cream, cocktails and cooking. Sure u know. Wonder how they differ in this respect.
I’d imagine they’d all be useful for zesting and would guess that true lemons would probably provide the more intense lemony zest compared with Meyer but I didn’t test it out. And the makrut would definitely be the more aromatic and intense flavour compared with the other limes :)
Hey! I bought a small lemon tree . Just harvested the first lemons. Do you know how I could know which variety they are? Based on how they look I think that they are Meyer or Dwarf lemons.
Hello, great vid! I haven't had Lemonade lemons since i was a little boy and have been searching for the for years!. any chance you would be willing so sell me some seeds?
this makes me really unsure about my lime tree... it was labeled as a key lime but the fruit look a lot more like the limequats both in size and the interior arrangement of the sigments..
Does the lemonade go by any other names? Ive never heard of it here in the states. I have about 15 variety’s of citrus so far my favorite is Satsuma Mandarin and the key lime. Theres not a day that goes by that there Isn’t a key lime growing year round on my young key lime tree. I use it for everything.

Hey! Love your content. Where are you in NZ? Canterbury?
What would the ponderosas be used for? Commercial lemon juice because of the large size?
Which one had the best aroma in terms of floral?
You're my favourite citrus.
Love mexican limes yellow lemons give me heartburn 😓 never seen that last one but my mouth was watering 😋😖
Keylimes are very common in stores here in Texas
I'm from southeast asia myself and when I saw you eat the Kaffir lime I felt the pain 😭😭😂 we just use the leaves for cooking
I was wonder what the best citrus for zest is, I was going to make a citrus infused liqour like a limoncello but I want a super flavourful zest.
Do you make Limoncello with your lemons?
this makes me really unsure about my lime tree...
it was labeled as a key lime but the fruit look a lot more like the limequats both in size and the interior arrangement of the sigments..
Marylander here. I had no idea that my state helped to make the ponderosa
So cool ay!
Look at four winds growers in California. They sell the New Zealand lemon/lemonade tree. Put your email in to be notified when it's available
