    I live in Hinjawadi and to think that Mohnish Pabrai was giving a talk in FLAME, the video feels like I am watching him live. Proximity bias I guess. Thanks for sharing.

    When projecting soft drinks consumption it seems ppp should be a better metric than per capita GDP.

    Monish talked about a stock Rain industries 4-5 years ago.. he had tremendous conviction and some crap data was provided in support of that ..
    The stock hasn't moved in last 5 years.
    So, basically don't buy the stocks that these guys.talk about in public forum

      @TheLionKing2345 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @abinav2803 yeah, but if a stock like Rain industries languishes for 5 years while the entire market has almost doubled (and small caps have returned 200% retun) .. net net these stocks are wealth destroyers.

      @@TheLionKing2345 If a stock gives us Zero Returns for 5 years & goes 4x in the 6th year, that's a CAGR of 25%. this point will be Plain Theory.
      And that's why Investing is Never Easy 😃 But it's Possible !!!

      This guy wasted my time......waste of 140 mins of my life. And they call this guy one of the greatest investors of the world. 😞
      Talking of Varun Beverages, the stock today commands a PE of 90 and its 5 years average PE is 60, so it is a bit expensive compared to historical values. However what matters is its earnings growth in the last few years. In the last 10 years Varun Beverages revenue has grown at 22% CAGR and Profit has grown at 48% CAGR. In the last 3 years, Varun Beverages revenue has grown at 35% CAGR and Profit has grown at 75% CAGR. India's GDP is driven by consumption with the population increasing like rabbits. So by these standards Varun Beverages is not expensive and as long as the earnings hold above 30%, the stock will command a high PE.
      The two examples he gave of Microsoft at 44:15 and Coca Cola at 44:55 are nonsensical.
      Example 1 Microsoft - From 1999 to 2015, Revenue increased from 22 billion to 90 billion, Profit increased from 8.7b to 12.8b, but the PE went down from 70 to 26 and the stock gave ZERO returns. (My take on this - In 16 years the revenue increased at 9% CAGR while Profit increased at 2.4% CAGR. Is it a suprise that the stock did not give any returns in the next 16 years?)
      Example 2 Coca Cola - From 1998 to 2011, Revenue increased from 18.8 billion to 46.5 billion, Profit increased from 3.5b to 8.6b, but the PE went down from 62 to 17 and the stock gave ZERO returns. (My take on this - In 13 years the revenue increased at 7% CAGR while Profit increased at 7% CAGR. Is it a suprise that the stock did not give any returns?. WIth the earnings coming a cropper, the stock did not give any returns).

      ya do u think varun beverages will grow at that pace for the next 10 years ?and even if it will the valuation of 90 pe is stupendous for a business like varun expecting to grow at 90percecnt? if that is the expectation then the returns are gonna be meagre. cocal icek is a better value buy for the profits and valuation , mohnish is talking about multi-baggers so its a no
