You don't know what fascist mean you gotta look at the chain of production to be able to claim the emprie is fascist of at the supreme stage of imeprialism described by lenin, and rectified after WW II by some dialecticians that wanted to describe fascist expansion of the world.... Because super imeprialist power like america could compared to the galatic empire....
The dictator can be all about oligarchy and the EU there was an oligarchy, arms dealers an miners, the economy of the empire is basicly oriente dto war and war only.
Yes, the Empire could do all the things that they did, but they never stopped to think that they should. They may have lasted longer and defeated the Rebel Alliance if they had.
The term fascism has been meticulously rewritten by communists throughout the years to literally define “defending your people”. Is it fascist for Wookiee’s to defend kashyyk? Is it fascist for jedi to teach their rules and traditions to the youth? Today academia is brainwashing kids into cookie cutter communists which is exactly what the empire would also do. Eliminating culture and ancestral heritage and subsequent subjugation/ enslavement is primarily what the empire does and also what the Soviet Union did. Look up holodomor and gulags I’m sure your Marxist professor won’t discuss it.
It could be a few on this? Fascist Rome, I'm thinking? Want praise. Need love. Am I right? Rome took an old regime and polished up spite again. What the Imperial said in The Mandolorian Chapter 7 really got to me. He said that when the empire was around, crime and disorder wasn’t nearly as widespread as it is now. Yeah obviously the Empire was of course fear instilling and warmongering, but loyal Imperial planets were often well taken care of. Good education and technological advancements as well. And quite frankly, the New Republic seems less corrupt, but almost (almost) as ineffective as its predecessor.
The New Republic's biggest mistake was just out right ignoring The First Order during it's early years of emergence. The Senate looked at them and was like "Oh? The Imperial Remnant has reformed into a splinter faction/terrorist organisation? Too bad,out of our jurisdiction means it isn't our problem!" Ignorance was their downfall.
@@neofulcrum5013 it is sad but in a galactic empire this massive and widespread it is quite hard to care for each individual soldier or even the regiments they belonged in. That said, I don't think it was impossible. Even Vader earned the respect of the entire stormtrooper corp and cared somewhat for the well being and convenience of his own 501st Legion. Most of the higher ups like moffs and admirals simply didn't give much of a shit.
The Lore version is better. It would make sense for humans to bound together against other species, those species would do the same to pretend otherwise is foolish.
@@molanohouse Exactly and before that too. But Disney doesn’t have the stomach to keep that as part of the lore, outside of making Anti-aliens groups look like imbeciles.
Stormtroopers are portrayed as bumbling morons that couldn't hit the side of a barn and every officer is corrupt and/or incompetent. But that's just not possible. No gov't would long stand if that were the case. And keep in mind all Imperials from the troopers to Grand Moff Tarkin were written by (let's face it) pre-woke writers that hated the military and tradition. Long live the Empire. th-cam.com/video/P2TA9coGLzM/w-d-xo.html
1: I think you're in the right. Or at least in the right area. 2: The Empire was unsustainable. The economy cannot sustain a super massive military for long and the treatment of nonhuman species is an effective guarantee of rebellion. Even without humans in their ranks, there are a lot of different species in the galaxy and far more of them than humans. The films overlook this, but the sheer variety of alien species make this a certainty.
@@samuelbishop3316 much denser, too denser...seem that for the economy to continue to sustain both the massive military and keep the core population happy, the only way was to plunder the outer rim and use slave labor en masse (basically inteplanetary gulag economy)
Aliens rebelling is the point. The Empire wants rebels so they have a permanent enemy and a perpetual war to keep the people united. And if the rebels are aliens, it's even easier to keep the humans united.
Honestly I think Palpatine seems to think that he is a good guy. Throughout the entire skywalker saga he never says anything about knowing that he is being evil. Palpatine said in revenge of the sith once more the sith will rule the galaxy and we shall have peace. Maybe I’m thinking way too much into Star Wars
I know it's been a year but your right palps wasent a COMPLETE evil despot he was bad sure but he didint truly believe all aliens were inferior or something infact during the later years of the empires rule he worked hard to integrate aliens into the empire and condemned the destruction of aldaran and gave refugee aliens a new grass planet to live on beacuse they can't live in urban environments plus he wanted to build a gaint security burau. All in all if the empire lasted longer it's quite possible that the empire would remain more stable and less athortian. Especially if palps got immortality then he wouldn't have to be so perinoid around people and his control and plans for the empires collapse would be loosened. Or me might become more eviler and destroy everything the dark side is a corroupting force were not sure how the empire would be like if the rebellion was tottaly defeated. Maby the sith would become the official religion and the sith empire would be reborn either way considering the nature of the force the sith will probably collapse again at some point ya know there's always Darth Vader. The closest we got to the empire managing to live longer than in cannon timeline are the alt history comic novel series.
Palpatine believed that the galaxy went through periods of war and instability every couple of decades. He believed that the Sith (through the Death Star and the Imperial military) would end this cycle of violence by imposing order through force, rather than attempting to negotiate through problems in the Senate or through Jedi ambassadors.
Personally my opinion will cause some people to agree and some to argue with me. Order Vs Chaos A.K.A Good vs Evil The Galactic Empire ( Order ) vs The Rebellion ( Chaos) Therefore the Empire is the good side, and The Rebellion are the bad guys. The Empire would bring order, and law, to orderless and lawless planets. The Rebellion, being advocates for Anarchy and non-sensical violence, created a cult following claiming they were good guys, among thieves, and criminals, and fought back against the 'evil' empire.
“Which is a very nice way of considering monstrous regimes.” You know, you really would be better if you stopped thinking of kings and kingdoms as “monstrous.” The only reason people say that form of government is evil is because that leader might one day call for people to defend the kingdom from a foreign threat and people don’t wanna havr to give up their comfortable lives to fight for something greater than themselves.

I think the Empire had good intentions but obviously went about it the wrong way. It’s sad that most of those that fought for it didn’t see what it actually was. What it was doing. It’s policies towards sentient species, it’s restricted stance on free speech, it’s own form of corruption in its ranks. It was asking for rebellions with the way it was going. I mean what does it say when half of the Alliance was MADE up of once loyal imperials? This is why I believe someone like Thrawn could’ve truly made them a force for good.
Cyber Flame yes yes yes! THIS is why I wince whenever an Imperial dies in the movies, or the novels- they’re just ordinary people, hoping to change the galaxy for the better.
@@neofulcrum5013 The Galactic Empire could have just been a massive respected police force that still holds for order and balance but instead, it was a regime being ruled over by a sith lord who craves power and influencing the mass with the dark side of the force.
@@neofulcrum5013 So agree to my thoughts that the Galactic Empire should just stick to being an intergalactic police force if Palpatine wasn't the leader? Because they should be one in the first place.
Realistically, you would need empires space presence to run a galactic empire and you would need the rebels philosophy towards people in order to unite them.
Empire existed just to feed the power of one man, once that man was gone it fell apart like so many empires in history built like that. It would never last if the rebels didn't take it down civil war would destroy it.
This is why I have love for the new empire in the expanded universe they are more level headed along with adapting to new politics and structural ideas that make them more welcoming and open minded. A good example is that they finally decided to let aliens enlist do to the heavy depletion of their army and resources.
"In the military disagreeing with your commander would get you shot. In the Empire disagreeing with the Emperor would get you arrested." And then shot. I do agree with many of the topics on this video but overall the ideology and endgame for the Empire's citizens has no real value, as you said in one form or the other, it was all about what Palpatine wanted and that was the main problem. He created a system that would give him the power but he involved himself little and allowed his officers to do as they pleased as long as it was not against him. This would come back to hunt the Emperor after Talkin destroyed Liea's home world.
@@Valencetheshireman927 It's the problem of the Sith, in general attract/create the type of personality that are good in taking power and political manipulation but are horrible at the administration level and in the day to day politics, plus as they can't even understand the concept of something greater than them (except the force naturally) they conflate loyalty to the state to personal loyalty and don't care for their legacies aka that things keep going after their death
I'm writing a fan-fic/video game plot that explores how some of these ideas relate to both canon and Original characters. The protagonist is a criminal seeking redemption who joins the Stormtrooper Corps because quickly buys into the Empire's rhetoric that Order and Authority=Justice, sees Darth Vader as an ubermensch, and starts to turn on his superiors when he realizes not just that they commit atrocities, but that they don't value him and their wars are pointless.
Great content and interesting subject 👍 Apart from Empire's policy of high human culture and enslaving alien species, the Empire provided peace, security, prosperity, and order to the galaxy. Imperial rule obviously had its flaws but so did the Republic and the New Republic. To me - the Rebels were simply a band of terrorists who disrupted a chance to bring real order. The Death Star was built to enforce order and not necessarily to keep blowing up planets when they felt like it. The Rebels simply provoked the Empire to act against them. After the battle of Endor and the fall of imperial rule, the galaxy fell into lawlessness and the New Republic struggled to maintain order, especially in the outer rim.

Thrawn remarks on this point to Palleon in the original Thrawn Trilogy. That the Empire his SIC remembers never truly existed and that he was kept ignorant of the true goings on.
Palleon wasn't naive. Even during the Thrawn Trilogy he thought of Palpatine as a megalomaniac, referred to Vader's legendary temper and habit of strangling subordinates who made mistakes, and criticised the concentration of political and military power under a single autocrat.
The only thing I would disagree with is the idea that the goals of the Empire were good because they wanted safety and prosperity for people. They wanted it for the top few percent who would be loyal. If not loyal, dead. So, how is that a universe of prosperity? That's the emperor and his circle getting it all, and people are silly to think it would be anything else.

I've no legitimate problem with a human supremacist autocratic authoritarian monarchal dictatorship. It's not a erk to me to live under a militarized one government far right human empire because it clearly worked. Humans gain privileges, not rights necessarily but privileges, land and property was confiscated by aliens given to Humans, assurance that your sure you'll get a job. Income, and a place in life as a human. Under the immense oppression of aliens. And weird force religions. A empire who's ideology is invent and scientifically discover and gloriously conquer as much as possible. Non of that is a problem. The science and technology, machinery whatever, military stuff always trickle down for civilian use later. Converted if you will. I'm assuming it's homophobic because these kind of regimes want their race to have children and have offspring and avoid mental instability homosexuality brings. If I have a job, security or military glory I'm fine. Conquer a world kill the aliens and give human colonists homes and farms or deposit resources the planet offers? That's not a moral crisis or problem for me. I love this empire and wish earth develops into such a state. Crime and disorder and riots and mob rule angered vote loser insurrection, instability and anarchy and corruption is a ramped problem with democracies and republics as well. So I prefer imperialism. It was also the richest empire ever. It's mix free market economy in some ways while regulated control in other areas balance out industry and income. Socialism for aliens. capitalism for humans. Trickled wealth for human success. In real life I would kill the first aliens that is shown.
This video: instead of explaining the empire's ideology from in universe law, I am just going to call it fascist (despite lucas saying explicatleybit wasn't fascist) and then use an extremely broad and debunked '14 characteristics of fascism' rather than actual fascist literature and actions, and try to just this with the empire in lore only to fail on the first of the 14 characteristics. Yes the 14 characteristics are debunked. And have been for decades. For example, Historians have long proven the irl fascist movements were modernist ones, that is the concensus. And yes you failed to actually link the empire to these points. Take your point on traditionalism, creating a new tradition is not traditionalism, its revolutionary progressivism.
It’s basically the British empire If you watch the rebels and Caleb and Keenan talk about how the empire nationalize the most industries it’s probably most likely possible that the empire created massive social programs that caused millions of young men to join the imperial ranks either for economic opportunities or to take benefits from the social programs there’s even a mud trooper. What you have to put into perspective was how taxing the clone wars was not just financially but emotionally. By year 3 of the war, everybody was just about done with it, especially since key septatist leaders were already treading water at this point and the republic was almost broke. So when palpatine announces the reorganization of the republic, it was a sigh of relief. Little that they knew, they were signing away their freedom. Ewww disgusting dictatorship communist fascist supporter! Haha USA Republic nuked imperial japan, destroy fascist Italy and destroyed Nazi germany… Haha the Rebel Alliance to reestablish the republic destroyed 2 imperial Death Stars same way USA republic used 2 nukes to destroy imperial japan!
Two things that get terribly understated in pieces about fascism, whether real-world fascism like in 1930's Italy and Germany, or fictional fascism like in the Empire, is 1) how incredibly corrupt these fascist systems are and 2) how the cruelty that is committed publicly against "outsiders" is committed covertly against "insiders". I see it in your video too, and it is reflected in many of the comments below. Quite a few comment on how the "Republic was so corrupt". Of course there was corruption in the Republic, but so was there in the Empire and probably the scale of imperial corruption was far greater. You rightfully argue that the Death Star was a militarily pointless undertaking, but "they did it because they could" is not the reason why they did it. Humongous infrastructure projects like that in fascist states usually service an entirely different purpose: bankrolling the inner circle of friends and profiteers in the fascist-state elite. Fascist states divert public money on a massive scale into private pockets, usually without any significant benefit to the people they claim to serve. Fascist regimes usually promise peace, order and stability but they never deliver it. The inherent cruelty they display against "the others" is also applied to their own people, and even within their own ranks. "Purges", often violent ones, are frequent in fascist-states and in fascist movements before they get their hands on state-power. Violence is a normal state of affairs in fascist-states and in order to encourage their citizens to be violent against "the other" they normalise violence and cruelty in general. Yes, they openly admit to cruelty and violence against political opponents. But equally often that same violence and cruelty is directed at individuals or organisations for other reasons, such as economic interests or monetary gains ... only to be 'justified' post-act as violence against "traitors" or "5th columnists". The outside threat is sustained in order to facilitate and cover-up internal violence. The individuals who "prefer" to live in a fascist-state are of two kinds: 1) those that profit from its corruption and abuse of power and 2) those that naively believe the propaganda to sustain a state of denial about what is actually happening around them. Some citizens might fall into both categories. It is here where the final fascist purpose of violence and cruelty reveals itself: it makes people guilty of criminal behaviour which is only considered "decriminalised" as long as the fascist-state remains in place. It is a bit like how most "gangs" work. They make you do things that would be crimes "on the outside" but are turned into something positive on the "inside". As a result, leaving the "gang" or giving up on your adherence to the fascist-state (or movement) comes with an admission of guilt of criminal behaviour. Many people are willing to go great length to avoid that and remain in denial. In the end that is what "makes them want to live under the Empire" ... because that is the only place where there criminal and cruel deeds will not be counted as such. What keeps people inside fascist-state (or movements) is either the fear of repression, or the fear of what they themselves have become guilty of.
@@kingorange7739 Correct, however Fascism itself is extremely unique for how different it can be, it's the "3rd position" true Fascism is neither right wing or left wing, however it's like a tree with branches, and those branches go to both sides. Fascist governments are not a mixture of autocracy and totalitarianism. Fascism is totalitarianism itself. Mussolini made this clear in the book "Doctrine of Fascism". On youtube you can find a short excerpt of a televised speech by Francisco Franco in which he declares himself totalitarian.
Thats the thing... many definitions about fascism are extremely flawed since under these checklists EVERY non-democratic form of Government is fascist even communist governments, and they actually leave out something very critical about fascism... rejection of capitalism and communism for a "Third Way" of economy. Fascism isn't solely about a new social Order based on obedience.
This is an exakt resumée of the core in the imperial thinking. One stick breaks easily but a bounch of sticks can not be broken. It is a regime but it has a power that remains unbroken.
When you think about it the Empire could have worked with a little restructuring of the military and high command. Basically fill in the ranks with people who actually cared. Imagine if the soldiers on Lothal were all locals trying to protect their home, rather than offworlders trying to exploit the planet like Tarkin.
Im pretty sure in legends the empire is mostly like this. Its mainly the higher ups, like people that were close to Palpatine, that were complete psychopaths,
The Empire was overly reliant on Terror weapons, which are only effective if your enemy doesn't know its weakness, but the Empire thinks this doesn't matter if the numbers of these terror weapons is high enough, but trying to carry that philosophy over to an unreplaceable planet killing battle station, that has the largest target in the galaxy on its back, is quite dumb. I think the goal of the Galactic Empire was the complete eradication of the Jedi, because the goal is at the highest ups of the Empire, the Emperor wanted the Sith to, rule the galaxy, and once he succeeded, he became complacent and the Empire slowly because more corrupt, and when the Imperial Senate was abolished, the government started becoming bloated and more corrupt, and the reason crime was not as common, was fear, and the Empire let crime lords do as they please in the outer rim, so who cared if crime was rampant in the outer rim, as long as it didn't affect the core worlds, it wasn't the Empires concern, unless it was the Rebellion, but a this point the Empires Ultimate goal is maintenance of the Empire, because they already won, they just need to hold on to it...
MEgaUberSUperDuper Terror weapons are perfectely in tune with the Sith philosopy of might make right, of ubbidience through fear, to show everyone how is strong the weak all the others...sure they are also a waste of time and resources and are basically useless at the pratical level
Yes for a empire that lives and dies on its military they had a pretty shit military... Like.. The AT-AT walkers where the dumbest thing. They where heavy weapons platforms that functioned as large troop transports. Problem was they where so poorly thought out and designed. You can only shoot whats in front of you for a vehicle that big you'd expect shields or turrets since it only moved at a snails pace and if you deployed it anywhere that wasn't solid dry ground or a giant sheet of steel soft or extremely wet ground sand snow mud anything like that would send them toppling over on their own. You couldn't cover the sides the back the top or underside i mean all some rebels have to do is use some rockets on the knee joints and its falling over 7 stories strait to the ground to kill everyone on board. Grab a grapple gun an plant some explosives on them or if you have say a U-wing just fire a heavy repeating blaster at its knees thats how easy it is to knock them out. Those things aside from the turbo lasers where a waste of durasteel they could have had more star destoryers more TX130s or TXm2 tanks or really anything else would have been a improvement i mean the AT-ST since the thing being toppled wasn't a sure death sentence they could more at a decent pace an maneuver relatively easily. The shuttles weren't much better a front facing landing ramp... You had the LAAT... you could have just updated that design it already was great than you have the TIE ships as short range space to ground patrol type vehicles i get it. not bad but anything else and its pretty worthless. If i was the emperor i'd have shocked to death whoever approved those designs for their stupidity. Like no wonder a bunch of randos with mostly outdated shotty military gear beat them its all intimidation no real threat.

Humans couldn't possibly have one culture this is a myth. More likely the case is that The Galactic Empire made it more easier for everyone to work together by pressuring people to speak common. Not speaking common would be treason. Speaking your regional dialect would be considered treason in public unless you couldn't speak common. This would give all rebellions a dialect to use to coordinate. This can be seen in modern day native American tribes. All can speak English , but most have dialects of their own.
antwan1357 it was the same during the galactic republic era as well, don’t forget that humans didn’t come from earth in Star Wars and the fact that on a galactic level individual planetary cultures are pretty much irrelevant
The sticks actually represent collectivism although your take still plays into that. Also masculinity is not a bad thing. Feminized men are more likely to be conquered by fascist regimes because they are weak and dont stand up for themselves. You fight fire with fire in this case. Dictatorships armies tend to be insanely armed with guns and weapons too. Doesnt make guns bad. It just means bad things happen when government are the only ones with weapons because they take advantage of how unarmed people cant fight back. The story of the hero is good when you are not trying to be viewed that way by the state. A much more nuanced conversation than you probably had time for.
The Empire ideology on the face of it is Imperial strength through Military power and Government subjection of its citizens. Though when one looks deeper they start to see the Sith Ideology in the Empire. The Empire was ruled by the Sith and by that logic the Empire will take the ideas of its ruler, similar to what the Roman Empire followed its Emperors ideology at the time. The Sith ruled by force, fear, threats, trickery, and finally killing both superiors and inferiors, and this shows that the Empire was going to cannibalized itself over time with several Moffs, Generals, Admirals, and Governors will try to stage coups or overthrow their rivals for their personal sate of power just like the Sith.

Oh I think you're right and made a good video. I just feel there's a little nuance to the word "fascism" and how it applies to star wars. Yeah, the Empire is based mostly on euro centric fascist oriented regimes, but they have a little bit of other influences too, including just blatant imperialistic regimes and even some communist ones. Basically the Empire is humanity's mistakes rolled into 1, starting with the fall of Rome and ending with the totalitarian regimes of the modern era, IMO. Although the Empire is based primarly on the Axis Powers (emphasis Nazi Germany) and Imperial Britain, it wasn't JUST based on straight up fascist regimes (which UK wasn't), and there are different examples of fascism throughout history. Palpatine was based on, at least initially, Caesar and Bonaparte, which had forms of government named after them-Caesarism and Bonapartism, very similar. Although Caesarism would probably be closest to fascism out of all the dystopias, it at least had to keep it's majority happy and go through the motions of cooperating with the left wing and allowing some semblance of opposition. The transition from democracy to dictatorship is seen in Rome and Napoleonic France, as well as what some people are afraid of happening in America, but with them it was more transition while in Nazi Germany it happened a lot faster. I think that, at least in my head canon, that when the Empire first started out, it "kept the skeleton of the republic" for a while, and was basically a constitutionally absolute republican monarchy, and then as time went on it eased ever more and more into becoming an absolute autocratic monarchy under a psuedo-fascist totalitarian dictatorship (which is what ww1 Imperial Germany was based off of). It had to maintain appearances to the inner rim wealthy and middling classes of the empire as at least being something of a dictatorship for the people, hence "Caesarism" that became more and more blatantly fascist as time went on. When the Empire fell, the cut throat nature of the Grand Moffs broke down into Warlord Fiefdoms, sorta like feudalism. Although the Galactic Empire tried to be unitary (as some old versions of SW say it was more unitary than the Republic, some new versions say less-it's possible to be both as it is multifaceted over millions of planets), there's no denying it dealt with different planets differently. Even some of the good worlds were under something of a psuedo stratocracy or militarized police state, and Grand Moff Tarkin was described as a technocrat. (Most examples of Technocracy are linked to communist or communist like regimes, from USSR or to current China. A full blown technocracy hasn't existed yet, and it tends to be closely linked to socialism. However, like with socialism, even if it's primarily applied to the left wing, there are right wing variants of it). For what it's worth, some outside sources view Palpatine as a technocratic dictator ruling over a space aged Roman Camelot. George Lucas himself said that some aspects of the Empire, esp in ROTJ, were based loosely on the USSR. The fact that tie fighter lasers are green is based on the fact the soviets used green tracer rounds, some of the formations and ship movements are based on Soviet Russia's (I think that was written down somewhere), and when the Empire fell, there were a series of mini congruent rebellions similar to how when the USSR fell. Ironically, the Ewoks were based off of a mixture of African Pygmies and Vietcong, so not only were they representing a rebellion against the USSR, but also Vietnam Era Nixon's America. There is a part about the Empire that is cautious and fearful of where American conservatives were going in that time, initially with Vietnam Nixxon era, but some felt is also applied to War on Terror 9/11 era America. Although some initially took this as a shot at soley conservatives, later some more libertarian esque conservatives at it up and gave credit to how Star Wars, particularly revenge of the Sith, showed how the government would use outside threats as an excuse for police state and imperialism measures. Basically the way I see early empire/fall of the republic is based on how Ancient Rome (who some credit with inventing fascism or the ingredients of fascism), Napoleonic France, America during Vietnam/ 9-11, and yes, proto Nazi Germany, were moving from a democracy to a dictatorship. By the time of A New Hope, it had settled more into being like primarily Nazi Germany led Axis and British Empire. Near the end when it was beginning to fall apart, it was sort of going through the motions of the USSR and to a lesser extent Vietnam era America. When it finally broke apart, it was like how Rome fell to Barbarians and Roman oligarchs became the medieval era's Feudalism. I guess Thrawn's Remnant was sorta like how Byzantine and the Holy Roman Empire were the supposed successors of the fallen western Pax Romana, although I think Thrawn took notes from the Persian Empire on how to run his in a way that inspired loyalty, was inclusive to all types, and even respected enemies who fought well.
The narrator has a limited understanding of Star Wars history, and he wants to use an Earth history as a parallel. The narrator seems to have a political science background which compares differently to my history background. The Sith Empire and Republic had two different cultures that developed separately until they suddenly discovered each other.
The empire needed to be abrasive and strong or else it would have never worked. It brings a lot of good with the sacrifice of some freedoms. Some people like to quote Benjamin Franklin “Those who would give up Liberties, to purchase Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”, but don’t know the full quote; “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” The Empire was replacing the less necessary liberties (like the freedom to have a news channel not advocate overthrowing the government) for great permanent freedom. While I will admit that tightening its grip lead to the civil war, It simply would have not worked if you much loosened the grip, else it fall in a similar way to the Soviet Union.
Yeah, in real life my nation had fallen to this type; Mussolini promised all that and just for the price of giving up such less necessary freedom result...a regime even more corrupt than before, but as he controlled the media nothing was reported and so we were all an happy family. There were a lot of grandiose project and on the surface all was well...but just scratch the paint and you will see how rotten everything was; and whta great permanent freedom the Empire give in exchange of the lesser? Security? Not really, much of the chaos was produced by them as an excuse for expansion or as direct consequence of the clone wars (instigated by Palpy) and say something wrong or getting on the bad side of an imperial officer and you are done if you don't have protection. Prosperity? Well the core yes, the rest of the galaxy a lot less as they were plundered for keeping the core happy and sustain the imperial megaprojects

@Fire Nation Soldier What "New Republic?" If the sequels are to be believed, there is no government since the Empire fell.

But he laughs like a villain
No he doesn't he knows he's bad and owns it.
Order Vs Chaos A.K.A Good vs Evil
The Galactic Empire ( Order ) vs The Rebellion ( Chaos)
Therefore the Empire is the good side, and The Rebellion are the bad guys.
The Empire would bring order, and law, to orderless and lawless planets. The Rebellion, being advocates for Anarchy and non-sensical violence, created a cult following claiming they were good guys, among thieves, and criminals, and fought back against the 'evil' empire.
“Which is a very nice way of considering monstrous regimes.”
You know, you really would be better if you stopped thinking of kings and kingdoms as “monstrous.” The only reason people say that form of government is evil is because that leader might one day call for people to defend the kingdom from a foreign threat and people don’t wanna havr to give up their comfortable lives to fight for something greater than themselves.

Italy actually did deliver many of its promises up until the war was going against them. Also Germany was not fascist
@@kingorange7739 Correct, however Fascism itself is extremely unique for how different it can be, it's the "3rd position" true Fascism is neither right wing or left wing, however it's like a tree with branches, and those branches go to both sides. I think the empire which could include palpatine believe that they are good.
I would say the empire is not fascist but a general romanized authoritarian state
Thats the thing... many definitions about fascism are extremely flawed since under these checklists EVERY non-democratic form of Government is fascist even communist governments, and they actually leave out something very critical about fascism... rejection of capitalism and communism for a "Third Way" of economy.

Interesting video. I kinda disagree on what you used to define fascism. I've actually spoken to fascists and they defined fascism as "nothing against the state, nothing outside the state."

I legit always always saw the Empire as America. I don’t see that as a bad thing. Btw, I’ve always rooted for the Empire over the Rebels
The empire is a dictatorship they will never represent USA…
Also during American revolution the Americans called themselves "rebels" and they fought against the British empire…
Also USA is a Republic, not an empire!

An absolute monarchy with human supremacist underpinnings
Funny thing about the emperor's influence usualy when an emperor with a beard becomed emperor beards becomed popular immideatly after and vice-versa when a baby-face emperor becomed the emperor.
