  • Famagogo, AKA the Holcombe family, wakes up on Thompson Pass outside of Valdez, Alaska, to dramatic views of the Chugach Mountains. This is a bucket list spot for adventurous van lifers. They check in on the Worthington Glacier to find it has receded since their last visit in 2016. They then push on to The Alaska Highway and discover spic camping off the old Alcan road. Autumn color is in full effect as the leaves are golden and falling. It's a great tour from Valdez to Haines at the prime time of year to be bug-free and with glorious fall color and really nice mid-September temperatures and weather. Once in Haines and Chilikoot State Park, they reunite with some of the Coastal Brown Bears they saw on a previous visit. This is a wonderful place to watch Grizzlies for free and on your own schedule. After 3 days of bear watching, they board the Alaska Marine Highway ferry for their next destination going south.

    Love the dramatic landscapes and wildlife y'all found. That big van life really does open doors to experiencing life, while still be comfortable. But mostly, nice work on the matching red jackets!

    Great stuff! Love the beautiful landscape and colors! Great tip about the bears in Haines. I’m guessing the next destination is Skagway. We did that route last summer and then headed down to Stewart/Hyder to see the Salmon Glacier - one of our favorite Alaska experiences was overnighting in the van backed up against the cliff with the glacier right out our back door.

      Yes, the Salmon Glacier is amazing. We hit that on our way gong up. You will have to watch the next video tomorrow to see where we end up next. Our videos launch on Fridays at 5pm CT.

    Another fabulous video guys. Thanks for sharing it.
    Have you considered putting a map up on the screen when you are describing where you are? We constantly find ourselves picking up our phones and putting the place names into Google maps - just a thought 👍

      Hey friends! Yes, We are wanting to do that. We are working though possible ways to show this. There are a handful of ways we just need to see what is the most efficient and looks the best. I hope we can use it on our next trip with you.

    Great video, I really enjoy your channel! Do those ferries have restrictions? Would a built out 170 Sprinter still be able to ride on them?

    • @Famagogo
      @Famagogo  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. You wouldn't have any issues. Heavy machinery and semi-trucks ride the ferries all the time. Your charged by length, that's the only difference.
