  • Half day in Mt. Dandenong, Sassafras & Olinda
We first had lunch in a special tearoom.

A traditional English tea room with vintage decor, framed pictures and menu that are heavily inspired by Agatha Christie's fictional character: Miss Marple. This shop is always busy, especially in the weekend, due to its unique decorations and vibes.
The staff are also dressed up in a traditional English maid costume.
This tearoom is only available for brunch, lunch, or late lunch.

A tea pot shop in Sassafras.
It offers a wide range of tea pots and cups, from licenced ones to original designs. Besides the pots and cups, you also can find other tea related products here: tea leaves, tea strainers, and even cookies and chocolates.
There is also a corner of defective items; e.g. scratched tea cups and incomplete sets that you can get at a bargain.
As it is just next to Miss Marple's Tearoom, it is a good spot to look around while waiting for our seats to be available as it can take as long as 1.5 hours.

A massive botanic garden in Olinda, Mt. Dandenong.
It used to be called the National Rhododendron Garden years ago. I guess they change their name as their collection grows.
A number of flowers are planted around the entry point. So, when they bloom in Spring, the garden looks vibrant and vivid as you enter. Unfortunately, we went at the end of summer, only a handful of flowers were still in bloom.
There is also a new garden built in it: Chelsea Australian Garden. The entrance to this section is done but a good part is still under constuction. Compared to the older division, it practically sparkles; it feels modern and fresh. The Waratah Sculpture there really stands out and serves as a key landmark. We also found a few Kangaroo Paw that are still in bloom in its rare plant section.
Up until now, I still haven't had a chance to cover the whole ground. It extends pretty far but there aren't that many flowers to be enjoyed further down.
