- Ancient Nemea is a semi-mountainous village in the Prefecture of Corinthia. It is located at an altitude of 286 meters and in 2011 had 392 permanent residents. It belongs to the community of Ancient Nemea, Nemea Municipality, Peloponnese Region. The modern village of Koutsomodi used to be a district of Ancient Nemea, while the entire village had this name. Named city of antiquity, also known from the mythical lion, which was killed by Heracles. The ruins of the temple of Nemean Zeus, of which only nine columns and the vertebrae of some others survive, are located at a very short distance from the present village of Ancient Nemea.
Ancient Nemea is one of the most important archaeological sites of the Peloponnese. It was an important city in ancient times, on the road that connected Corinth with Argos and the venue of the Nemean Games.
