Yes periods leave needs to be there , every female's body is not some . Some can work even on Periods and some can't get up from bed.Periods make my 2-3 days unproductive. *For people who are against the period leaves* : Try to think in a better way. First of all, do not compare anything to "it used to happen in the past" Today is different from what it used to happen years back. The nutritional value has drastically decreased which has resulted in compromised health, so periods are painful for most of the women. Also when working women are doing their job brilliantly, so 1 day in a month will not be a crime to take, in fact that will motivate the person to work with more enthusiasm in the rest of the days. Things are changing and some good decisions will not harm anyone. We need to have clarity, acceptance, that's it.
What you are saying is absolutely correct. But you know the society isn't idealistic. People already have a million so-called reasons to not to employ women
' Oh, you might get married in the future, so you won't be able to give time to work. '
' Oh you are married? Then you must be busy taking care of husband. '
' Oh you are pregnant? Then it would be difficult to take up projects. '
' Oh you have child? Then you will be busy raising them .'
And they might get another reason to not to give the job.
Hence medical leaves should be allowed, but period leave is a separate debate.

Women won't be hired if they have to give 12-24 days off extra for them and even if they do, it will be for lower pay. Companies are already hesitant to hire women because of pregnancy, they won't hire if they have to give period leaves or will pay them less since they do less work. If their periods are that bad, they can take a sick leave or work overime/ weekends to make up for that day.

If companies have to give women period leaves, they simply not hire women or even if they do, it will be for less pay.

Great topic. Similarly for many pregnant women, first trimester is very tough due to extreme vomiting and fatigue. So just like maternity leaves, pregnancy leaves for initial trimester will be helpful 😢

So true. there should be leaves for the ladies whom are suffering from severe pain & cramps.
There is another side of this coin as mentioned by Smriti Irani about this kind of leave. If one unmarried woman or girl takes leave this month and not the other month, think what kind of impression it would give the society. This should be optional and can be called as personal or medical leave. And should be used when it’s needed only. These sensitive factors cannot be generalized and publicly shared.
And as shown in this, it can be mentioned to the manager who can understand. The challenge is how many women/men as the managers can understand and help their employees.

Every girls period pain is not same! Some girls have no pain, some a little, and some have extreme pain with vomiting and fainting. And i am one of them who faints when my period starts. The pain is so extreme in the first day that i cant stand straight forget walking. So period leave should be mandatory atleast for 2 days a month!
This is not normal .Periods are supposed to a little painful but not that much .Try visiting a Gynaecologist.
@@prachitripathi1409 lol, periods are painful!, just because yours are not doesn't mean others are not normal. Feeling weakness, nausea, vomiting etc are very normal during the start of periods. It's only for the first day. And I have anemia so it's very normal for me to faint when my period starts, and by fainting it doesn't mean that I blackout. I just need some good fruit juice or ORS at that time.

@@prachitripathi1409 mine was like yours some 3-4 years back. I didn't even got the slightest of pain, sometimes I forgot I am on my periods. And when other girls used to complain about pain, I use to think and say that it's not normal. But after some years my body grew, I became an adult, my hormones got in place and now I experience periods just like everybody else. In some cases the pain is unbearable and it can be uterus fibroids or other issues but you will know if that happens because the pain will be different and your body will know that's something is different and it's not right:)

My friend in government job she always had severe abdominal pain during periods once she has taken leave to see the doctor uski cl ki jagah absent laga di karan batao notice jari hua she explained everything with proof still officer demanded 40000 rupees bribe directly so ..agar kisi ko jada problem hai to isko leave milni chahiye and jisne nhi hai vo na le medical leaves are there but still everyone get worried to take them kyuki bribe dena hoga ...are maternity leave jo ek working women ka right hai private me to job hi left karna padta hai and government me leave pass karvane ke liye openly 10 se 15 hazar ki bribe mangi jaati hai women employees se ..this is the bitter truth of India

I remember the days I started working as a fresher , during period I never got leave if I am in home and suffering in heavy bleeding or periodical pain ,maximum times I used to cry like hell sitting on my chair, then my HR used to say u can leave now after seeing my condition, it made me depressed always because I heard things like she is always ill from few though I am physically fit enough. Yes every girl doesnt have the same problem but those who faces painful periods, they can understand the situation.

But why does one need period leave... it's a natural process for all women and if anyone has special issues, like me, as i have severe flow that i need to change 10 12 XXXL pads a day and sometimes more and which has also led to severe vaginal infection, those cases can be booked under medical leave as it is totally a medical condition for a girl and needs medical attention. Why would anyone need a period leave separately. I personally feel, and i repeat, i personally feel, that let's not discriminate ourselves and be some alien gender on this planet.
But why does should a women only get a leave when the problem is very very serious

@@ishitaagarwal6219 Yes..but for that you have sick leave as cramps is a common feature of menstrual process and can happen to anyone. Take two days sick leave.. which u r officially entitled for... i m not feeling well because of cramps just like i m not feeling well because of fever or upset stomach or migraine attack... why does one need a period leave separately... that is discrimination of gender which if u think logically is creating impediment to your own career... if u want to treat a woman on equal pedestal to a man then u have to believe in that equality first, rather than throwing the spotlight on yourself as someone to be treated distantly. Again this is my personal opinion.

Totally disagree with period leave. At one sude we are fighting for equal rights and gender pay gap and another side the period leave is going to only give companies more reasons to nit hire a woman as she will be given 12 extra leaves or more. Period can be considered as any problem a person gets and take wfh or a sick leave. People can lie and take this period leave as well. So this only makes it more about avoid hiring women.
