Hey Joey - as a retired (long ago) marine biologist, I'd like to weigh in on your bluefish hypothesis. They are spawned out but I'm not sure that they die as do salmon. When I lived up north, the early arrival bluefish often had the same big head, skinny body shape. The fish had just arrived inshore and were benefitting from bunker and herring spawns. I believe that they fill out and continue along another seasonal pattern. They are always fun to catch, even the little snappers (young of the year). Viktor can cook but I just can't buy into the bluefish banquet!
I'm with Gary. I don't think they die. According to Google they start breeding at 2 years and live for 12 years.
We see them tear drop
Shaped On the inside waters up in NC. So either spawned out or very hungry from migration.
As for eating. Bleed them and eat fresh. Don’t freeze them.
Thanks for the info Gary! Got a couple of people weighing in on it.
We used to have runs of bluefish like that off the mid atlantic coast and they would also be skinny before they had a chance to fatten up on either pogies or further out on sand eels. The big question is why there are so many down here now?
The rare janto sighting in blue jeans for blue fish 😆 2:55
Legit what’s more fun than catching giant bluefish!!??
Wednesday night we caught a few of these between 30-35 inches. Monday night I caught at least 30 of the small ones. They are still hanging around.
The biggest blue I've ever caught was from the north catwalk at Sebastian one winter years ago - about the size of the ones you were catching on this video. Thanks for posting, Joey.
Those are what we in New jersey refer to as 'Racer Blues'. They have a very big head and thin bodies compared to their head. And we get them in the spring starting around mid/late April. What I've always been told is that the reason that they have skinny bodies has nothing to do with spawning but is due to the fact that they migrate from the northeast down to the south east in late fall/winter and do the reverse in spring. Once they reach NJ (& further north) they put on the feed bag and gorge themselves all summer until it's time for them to migrate back south. In addition, I know for a fact that at least here in New Jersey they spawn offshore in the summer as there is usually a 2-4 week period in the summer when the bluefish seem to disappear from inshore waters and those that do remain are very finicky as to what they eat and exhibit spawning behavior. A 'racer' blue that weighs #10 in the spring with will be in the mid/high teens in the fall. I love catching bluefish on topwater. My biggest bluefish to date is a shade over 22 pounds.
Thanks a lot that's the kind of information I was looking for. Makes a lot of sense.
Thank you for explaining the migration. Ive been surf fishing jax beach since a kid and Ive never seen the gator blues in the numbers here this year. Fishing is always changing!
Same here in New Smyrna but the ones we got this weekend were a bit thicker than the ones we caught last weekend
If your friend lives in Florida tell him he doesn't have to eat like that🤣 anymore😅😅
Seen u in the boat another day catching them to on the south side great video as usual
The old school commercial guys would make a spicy fish chowder out of bluefish. It was really good!
I was there for 4 years and they only came inside of the past like that and stayed for a couple weeks inside the pass. But they didn't look like they had the malnourished look
Great catching. Looks like a blast on top water. Love the land based content
Those are big blue fish Joey , Keep up the great work! ( was on the Sebastian inlet north side last saturday and got myself one to! )
12lb 5oz on 12lb mono w 20mono leader. 2017 my pb.
Whitey's weigh in
Always look forward to the videos. Thanks Joey.
We ain't gonna talk about that snook?
Great video Joey!
The really big blueys morph into what looks like a thinner variety of amberjack.
I caught a 20lb blue fish on the dot at Ponce Inlet jetty Sunday then caught a small 8lber well small compared to the 20. Biggest blue fish I’ve ever seen
Caught in frozen croaker about 15ft from jettty
👍😎✌
Thank you Joey.
Your theory on bluefish is very interesting. I don't know enough about bluefish to have a opinion. However I think you may be right.🤔
Gotta admit that they are fun to Catch!
Yes Sir
I think that size are there every year, but came inshore because the mullet run sucked and we're starving. Those chased all the small blues off; cannibals.
Just got my janto gear pompano shirts! Man they are nice af! Get yours today!
Thanks dude! Super soft and comfy.
@@JoeyAntonelli they definitely are comfy! And the design is awesome
Shoutout the best fuckin fishermen from shore
Is that bait or do you eat them
Both. I used some for deepdrop bait and a friend smoked some.
DA PAWHHHHPAHHHHH
If the bluefish were 4’, sharks wouldn’t stand a chance!
Yessir
I love eating the smaller ones under 3 lb
Yo since when is Florida the northeast
they don t die salmon stop eeting after spawning these were hungry to regain so i guess they keep living.
Nice 🔥🔥🔥💥💥🫣💯💯🎯🎣🎣👍🏿😜
