Thanks Todd we get a lot of good ideas from the comments an also from watching other channels like yours . The table saw speed up production a lot an now I just need to figure out a good way to turn all the slabs that come off the mill into kindling .
I'm going to say 42 bundles. Do you think if you stacked several together and hit them with buster would be just as fast without the waste? Just a thought. Saw doesn't seem to work to bad though
We did that a while back in a video but got the same result as hand splitting actually with multiple blocks on the splitter we got even more scrap than using just a hatchet . By using the table saw instead of splitting we can saw threw knots a twisted grain an we get more pieces pr board to use as kindling . We want to rig up something so we can also start using all of our slabs from the saw mill as well for kindling but our slabs range in thickness from 5 in to 1/4 in thick . Kindling once proceeded is worth 4 times as much as camp wood bundles and can be made inside when the weather is crappy . Thanks Brian
Congrats to Steve for the bundle challenge! Looks like table saw is going be work fine, just be careful! That could also be useful for the mini pieces of wood for the mini solo and warm bond table top stoves.
Phil and Karen another great 👍 video,Phil maybe 🤔 raise the table saw blade up so that you could cut two or three blocks at a time also if you have two wheel barrels one for the saw and one at the pallet for stacking 😮😊❤
I did experiment with trying to cut 2 pieces at once but it made the saw cut twice as slow it’s just a small home owner table saw . We did end up putting a piece of plywood down about 2 ft off the ground to catch the pieces and the pallet was moved so it would be right next to the saw .
Hello Phil and Karen. Phil you came up with an idea that would make more money faster than selling kindling. That idea of making a multiple blade table saw is the answer. You can design that, patent it and sell them and let every one else make the kindling. Think of all the time you would have not cutting and bundling that wood. You put that saw in a box, get paid and send it on its way!!! Remember the old saying “Work smarter not harder” This could be the start of something big. I’m sure you would have bought one if it was available. Thanks for another good video.
Well it’s not a table saw with multiple blades but woodmizer makes a resaw machine or some call it a edger that ya just feed lumber into an it has multiple blades that you can move so you can trim the barkie edges off . My brain is always turning trying to find a better or faster way to
Also, I'm wondering if you even need to stack the kindlin? I feel like it's small enough that you can just keep piles of them in plastic IBC tote containers (with holes poked throughout for airflow). As long as they stay dry I can't imagine they'd mold up or develop fungus? Might be worth a test!
I kinda like having it stacked mostly because then I know how much we have on hand and it will be easier to just grab a big handful and drop it into the tube when we make bundles . But ya I think ya right it would be fine in just a big pile .
Have a 5 ton electric Yardmax. I split several full cords of red Oak and maple with it. Really surprising it's power. Only draw back you use both hands. Can adjust the stroke so you can split faster
Nice work with the table saw.i use fat pine stumps to make my kindling bundles.i split them on my county line splitter.stack it in boxes as I split, then bundle them.1 customer so far that gets 20-25 at a time.also give 1 with each trunk load sold
Nice it’s all extra $. Last yr we gave 2 bundles of kindling with each bulk load of hardwood we delivered a this yr we want to add it to all of our road side stands .
We did try that a few months back but got the same results as hand splitting A lot of scrap and you can only use strait grained boards . On the saw table we can use twisted grain or even the boards with knots so we get to use more of our scrap lumber an get a better return on it .
interesting and fun video! ... but splitting for my personal use is just fun! -but i'm not a production shop. BTW - save your backs there guys. One on the floor picking up handing to the other who stacks. Maybe drop the cuts into a hopper instead of the floor.
Hey Phil and Karen. Love your channel. Be careful, you’re going to have a kickback event at some point leaving wood pinched between the fence and blade of your table saw. Also, for as many ripping cuts you have to make for each piece, your odds of getting a finger or hand in the saw are pretty high. For the sake of efficient use of your time, have you considered just milling your poor grade logs lengthwise into kindling sized wood, then you’d just be left with cross cutting them to length, which would be a lot quicker with a lot less cuts. Maybe you could sell your scrap cutoffs or just continuing to burn them yourself? Just an idea but may not be right for your business. Thanks for the great content! 35 bundles. Nate
I think if the kindling business grows we could use the low grade logs on the mill an saw ito strips . I agree it would be a lot safer cutting them to length on a chop saw a making the strips on the saw mill .
Hi guys. 67 is my guess. Thanks for the mention 👍🏻 One thing that bothers me about the saw is. The blade. If you tripped or fell and put your hand out to stop your self, well you know what’s going to happen. I knew a fella that it happen to. Not good. So, always be alert, and have the floor clean around the saw so you don’t trip. Looks like it’s going to work for sure. Will you always have a steady supply of wood to use. The next venture is. Toothpicks. 🤭🤭🤭🤭 Have a great day. Time flys when you’re having fun. 👋👋👋👋🪵🪓🔥
Toothpicks ya say hmmmmm…. Have ta think on that one lol . Ya my shop is always a mess a stuff everyware so ya right I should clean up around the table saw at least I don’t need another summer with only one hand to use . Thanks Noel
You have a nice pile ! Should make 85 bundles :) I was selling bundles for campfires not really kindling just split small with axe & some with splitter & no one complained it wasn't all straight, It doesn't make it burn any better, they were just happy they didn't have to split it :)
I have been doing the opposite since i started as I didn't see bundles as useful. Slowly, that is turning, but we shall see how things go over the next few years as competition is fierce.
There’s so many different parts to a wood business and different ways to go about it. We’re all to late to reinvent the wheel but there’s still ways to focus on the smaller parts an really try to expand on the stuff that pays the best . Being different is a lot more fun than just doing what everyone else does . Thanks Danial
I do good separating the species of wood in smaller quantities. Like cherry , white oak , hickory for cooking wood . And I have learned that some will just pay more that way for larger quantities. But I still always have mixed hard wood .
Really the only hard wood we separate is the oak because it takes so long to dry . But we do separate all the splits into bundle grade , ugly or just regular firewood .
Hey Phil, I believe Milwaukee and others make a thin curf blade for ripping. It wouldn't be a whole lot thinner but it would possibly create a little less sawdust but it would definitely be easier on your saw motor. Would probably be able to push it through faster also. Just a thought buddy, take care. Watch those fingers on that table saw!!!!
I will look into that maybe they have that down at the hardware store if so I will get one . Ya definitely wanna be paying attention to ware ya fingers are on a table saw kinda like running our splitter ya wanna be focused on what ya doing .
I just watched your kindling video. I cut mine just for me, using cedar pickets. I first cut the lengths and then set a stop block to the right of the blade and cut my 12” pieces into 3/4’ wide pieces. It works well for me. Splitting it is dangerous and nothing will come out uniform. If you plan on producing a lot, get an old radial arm saw and go to work.
After making 2 full cord of kindling we found it didn’t sell very good at our rd side stands . I probably have a 5 yr supply on hand now lol so it’s gona be a long time before we ever get back to making kindling . I don’t have a radial arm saw but I can see that would help speed things up . Thanks for the tip .
I use a big Kitty Litter scooper to sift the leftover coals from the day before. Pile them in the middle with 2 small logs on the sides, then stack logs on top over the coals. Use a cheap propane weed burner to light the coals. 1 or 2 hits with that burner, and it takes off.
@AllenFamilyFirewood ...Honestly, for all those small scrap boards, I would just toss in the stove as-is, with the damper way down to prevent burning too fast/hot.
hi there well i dont sell firewood but make tons of kindling , all the trims off the sawmill , not as pretty or clean but alot good show best to all , john
Thanks John that’s our next step to find a way to use the slabs from our mill to make make nice consistent sized kindling instead of using it as camp wood in our bundles . I think if I can keep the slabs all 1 in thick it should work with the way we are doing it now .
For now the table saw should do the trick . The woman is usually the one buying the camp wood bundles a the kindling an over the yrs I’ve learned they like a nice package.
I think we can make that happen Nick . It’s our first yr really making kindling and I want to make sure we can keep our stands full as well . I will give ya a call this weekend or some evening this week . Be fun to do a video playing with your Easton made ultra as well .
Ain’t enuf hrs in the day to do it all . I can’t keep up with hardwood , pine and sawmilling . That’s the nice part about firewood there’s so many different ways to make extra $
The table saw is a great idea just don’t get fatigued can’t afford no more accidents with thumbs ! table saws make me nervous 😂. I honestly have no idea how many bundles would be in that pile I say 70.
Yup having ya finger within an inch of that blade ya wanna be on ya game no room for mistakes this yr . can’t afford to be at half speed another summer .
I take the sawdust from my woodmizer and put it on sheet pans and then in the oven to dry. I then melt some parafin in a crockpot and mix in the dried sawdust. Scoop into mini muffin paper cups and insert a small piece of wick. Bag these firestarters up, 12 to a bag and sell for $ 5. Just another profit center to go along with kindling and camp wood bundles.
We have never made fire starters but have Ben thinking about trying some just to add to the kindling bundles . If the kindling sales take off like I’m thinking than we might just give it a try . Thanks
Hi Guys. I knew before the video started, it would be either a sliding compound miter saw or a table saw. I’ve used a table saw and other electric power tools almost all of my adult life, small construction projects, house building projects, decks and making wooden toys when my boys were young etc. The only thing that make me cringe is ripping pieces that wide on a table saw. Please be careful and always keep your eyes on the task at hand!👍
Well to be honest if I had had more time we was going to build a box wedge that could go on an electric splitter an try that an we might still try that but I really like the uniform pieces that come off the table saw . Packaging sells
Maybe firestarters in the future with all that sawdust? 🤔 might not be worth your time, but never know. That looks like a good idea for cutting the kindling. The multi blade thing would be the ticket if you can get one made. I think there will be around 197 bundles of kindling, hopefully more. Life is too short to not smile or laugh! 🙂🙃🙂
We have no shortage of sawdust especially when we are sawing on the sawmill but we was thinking about trying our hand at making fire starters to add to each bundle of kindling . I think a resaw machine or board edger for lumber is perdy close to what I was thinking for a multi blade set up . If the kindling business takes off I will have to look into one of them and modify it . Everyone likes to laugh an have fun it just so much better than being mad an ticked off at the world . Thanks Robert
@@AllenFamilyFirewood I did a short stint at a small 4-5 man sawmill about 45yrs ago, made winter seem colder and summer hotter miserable job🤪. gangsaw was the most basic configuration I could think of for your table saw setup without going all fancy shmancy.👍
I had a friend that made strip boats, He modded his table saw by adding extra blades with spacer, if you only added 1 extra saw blade it would double your production. 3 blades even better.
Check out on how to make a gang saw. Same as the table saw but a number of blades spaced apart so you can run your wood and cut 9 pieces with one swipe. If you can figure a way to have the wood go intoa 5 galon bucket the stack time will be 80% quicker. You won't have time for any mountain dew. Good luck.
My buddy said we should build one a them gang saws but we found out that the kindling didn’t sell very good at our rd side stands . I probably have a 5 yr supply of it now as we had made 2 full cord of kindling lol .
The table saw will work and be relatively quick. Just be cautious of kickback on a piece or two when it's left between the blade and fence. Another way would be with a 14" or preferably bigger bandsaw with a resaw blade on it. It would saw it pretty fast also and be safer so Karen could saw if she wanted to. I have a 20" delta that we used last year for that same purpose. I had bought it off marketplace or Craigslist. Keep up the good work
We have a woodmizer saw mill an I have played with that as well for making kindling . We sawed the boards at 3/4 an then flipped em on there side an resawed at 3/4 again but the pieces broke apart anyplace there was a bad knot an made a heck of a mess and it’s outside . Being able to do this inside on crappy days was what we were shooting for an I think ya right a big bandsaw would work very good a with a thinner kerf we would get lest waste in sawdust . Thanks
@@AllenFamilyFirewood ya I agree a bandsaw sawmill would make a mess. What I was using was a 20" delta vertical woodworking bandsaw with a fence. If I can I'll try to put a link to a picture of it
My wife doesn't like running the gas splitter. I bought her a 5-ton electric log splitter and she loves it. She's split several full cords of black walnut, oak, ash, and locust.
The market is there for it if you want to do it. I do +5k bags per yr. I run a posch autosplit 350. It'll do that 80 bags worth in 22mins. For the time being I'd sort the clears out as you cut cause you can split it by hand faster then ripping!
Wow we just looked up a video of that machine your using that’s a neat machine an it’s fast . How much do they charge for a machine like that . That would really make a lot of kindling fast for us
@@AllenFamilyFirewood I'm not sure where they are now. They've gone up a fair bit in the last few yrs. Low thirties in Canada. The speed adjusted for firewood size will run a cord of rounds in about 9 mins!
50 bundles. Hope this works out like you want. Please be careful, especially after a long day of cutting and splitting out with Buster. Don't lose your focus.
Careful with the table saw Phil. Repetition leads to carelessness which leads to accidents. I know. Years ago l lost the tip of my thumb do something similar. 84 bundles. Mike
Be careful Phil, you don't want to lose an index finger too. Have you tried doing 2 or 3 boards at the same time? How about doing 6-10 boards at a time on the splitter. If you keep using the axe, you should hold the wood with sone channel locks or a clamp. It is great that you are taking a waste product from your pallets and turning it into a salable product.. That saw is faster than I thought it would be and it is really uniform.
We tryed doing that on the splitter a few months back but just like splitting by hand we got a lot of scrap and inconsistent pieces an couldn’t use any of the pieces that had really twisty grain or had knots . The table saw lets us use all the scrap now to make kindling . I haven’t tryed stacking the boards up on the table saw yet mostly because of kick back an with twice as thick it will probably take twice as long to cut but I might try it anyway to see . Thanks James
If ya near by stop in an we can load ya truck I always have plenty of them kicking around , so many we just started burning them to heat the shop but now at least we can make kindling out of a bunch of them
Thinner blade or a band saw or take a blade and slick off them notches. But yeah a saw blade set up on a planer. For now a stack as high as the blade with a simple jig. Plus side with the saw you can take the saw dust and make fire starters.
We have a woodmizer saw mill so we have an abundance of sawdust . We might try making firestarters to put in each kindling bag if the kindling really takes off like we hope
@@AllenFamilyFirewood weld 4 plates onto one plate Top plate then weld 4 peace straight down from the top plate or peace then you hook it to splitter. That way you’re slicing each board four or five times at once. It’s like splitting wood. But it’s straight up and straight down. I have
Make long strips on the saw mill and then cut them to 12 inches using a jig on the saw. I see someone else already guessed my guess, so I will put another guess here. 57 bundles is my guess.
I did try that on the saw mill but when I hit a knot it broke the strips apart an we had a mess to pick up out side . I was sawing the strips 3/4 by 3/4 . I need to find a way to use all the slabs we get off the mill instead of using them for camp wood bundles but a lot of the slabs are 4 in thick . Kindling is worth 4 times as much as camp wood so that’s my next project to figure out .
I tryed that we did 3/4 boards an then flipped up 10 of them an sawed again at 3/4 but when it hit knots they all broke apart an made a mess then after we had to set up a chop saw to cut to length . We just started saving all the shorts an odd pieces and chopped em up to 12 in a feed em threw the table saw . Baisicaly the same thing . Thanks Howard
Hey guys I'm going to guess 83 bundles but I also want to say to you Phil as a woodworker all my life as you're using that table saw repetitively you need to keep your concentration cuz you can get hurt very quickly so be safe and be happy
Thanks Dale! we had a winner, the comment is posted at the top. It was 80 bundles. Oh trust me, I'm being very careful with that saw! Want to keep my appendages! Thanks as always for watching!
That should be a good selling point Ken . Did you ever get through that huge order you had for them a while back . We might look into making firestarters to add to each kindling bundle any suggestions on the best way to make them I figure your the guy to ask about that . Tell Danny Karen an I say hello.
@@AllenFamilyFirewood we slowed down on that order since the guy wants the delivery in the spring. That just means we have 1,000's tied up in that order. It's just money in the bank, though.
Why not use the vertical splitter and process 3-4 boards at one time? Knots aren't a problem, lay them flat and break them in half with the splitter. Kindling produced with an axe or splitter produce sharper edges. That means they catch fire quicker. Here's how we do it. th-cam.com/video/pNWqdTUQsAg/w-d-xo.html
Just watched ya video I like ya set up for prossesing the slabs into kindling . When we did it like that on the splitter we had about 25 % scrap . You guys use a lot bigger bag than we are an that’s probably what we need to change to . With the big bags you can put all the scrap in the bag . But with our lil 6 in wide bags it looks bad with a bunch of scrap mixed in . We might try your way when we get some bigger bags cause it sure is faster than how we are doing it .
@@AllenFamilyFirewood I never understood the need for kindling to be all uniform. It's wood. It will burn if it's dry no matter the shape. If I had to run everything over a table saw I wouldn't be doing kindling at all. A couple years back we had an order for 120 bags th-cam.com/video/BLItBbmvaE0/w-d-xo.html and we decided to cut the sticks on the sawmill, then chop them on the miter saw. The sawmill slicing took way too long. So we don't do that anymore either :) There's a few videos showing that cutting station.
@@WoodchuckCanuck ya it’s time consuming for sure . This kindling thing is all new to us and I’m just testing the water with it an trying to figure out the best way to make it . I kinda assumed having all the same sized pieces would make for a better bag of kindling to sell . We will probably try a bunch threw the splitter a bag it and put the scraps in the bag as well a see what people prefer. I do agree I much prefer mismatched pieces for starting a fire but I’m selling to city folk that have only ever started but 1 or 2 campfires . They come from the city’s by the 1000s to go camping around here an that’s our biggest market .
Keep the saw blade clean. Use oven cleaner and a old paint brush. Keep it clean. Seeing how you used the table saw worried me. Use a feather board and clamp it to the guide. The way you ran it. You are asking for a pice to kick back otherwise. Be safe. We love youns.
Thanks that’s a good tip on keeping the blade clean . I’m not sure what a feather board is but I will look into it cause ya the strips are always kicking back I just don’t stand behind it so I don’t get hit . Thanks Michael

At our stands we’re selling for $4 or 3 for $10
32 bundles. These bundles look great. I think you found the answer. Great job.
Thanks Jerry! like to have them all uniform and a nice looking package
I love the looks of those pallets when they're full of kindling
So do we! lol
Why dont you slow down buster and use it and split 5 or 6 plank at the time
We did try that a few months back but got the same results as hand splitting A lot of scrap and you can only use strait grained boards .
Thanks! We ended up ditching the kindling because it just didn’t sell in our area
I agree it would be a lot safer cutting them to length on a chop saw a making the strips on the saw mill .
love a contest!!!!! 84 bundles is my guess!🎉oh, I’m late for dinner! lol 😅
lol, better late than never! Thanks Sue! ❤️
Good afternoon! I'm guessing 93 bundles of kindling in the pile. Keep up good work!!
Thanks Randall!
Hi guys. 67 is my guess. Thanks for the mention 👍🏻
One thing that bothers me about the saw is.
Toothpicks. 🤭🤭🤭🤭
Have a great day.
Thanks Noel
@@AllenFamilyFirewood 👋👋👋👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You have a nice pile ! Should make 85 bundles :) I was selling bundles for campfires not really kindling just split small with axe & some with splitter & no one complained it wasn't all straight, It doesn't make it burn any better, they were just happy they didn't have to split it :)
Thanks! There were 80 bundles…you were close!
47 1/2 bundles! Great video y’all!
Thanks we had a winner it was 80 bundles we pinned the winner at the top of the comments .
Ow ya we know ya different cause ya like ya log lift on the other side lol .
@@AllenFamilyFirewood : l see even the splitter is like me. 🤣👍
Who's the table saw blades at a time
Not sure what you mean but I’m going to see if there’s a way to add another blade an have 2 blades cutting at once
When my outdoor wood burner goes out that’s how I start mine as well . Them weed burners get it done in a hurry
@AllenFamilyFirewood ...Honestly, for all those small scrap boards, I would just toss in the stove as-is, with the damper way down to prevent burning too fast/hot.
Hey Phil nice uniform stuff. Watch your fingers, don’t need another surgery. My guess is 37 bundles.
Cheers Woody !!!
Ya I’m really focused when using the table saw I can’t afford another summer with 1 hand again .
hi there well i dont sell firewood but make tons of kindling , all the trims off the sawmill , not as pretty or clean but alot good show best to all , john
Thanks John that’s our next step to find a way to use the slabs from our mill to make make nice consistent sized kindling instead of using it as camp wood in our bundles . I think if I can keep the slabs all 1 in thick it should work with the way we are doing it now .
Im going with 47 bundles glad you found a way to do this
Thanks Richard!
What about making fire starters with the sawdust and some paragon wax?
We've been thinking of doing that Karen! It's on the list lol
The table saw is the answer.
I must say, Phil has a clean tidy package, of wood, kindling.
50 bundles 😊
Lol, I agree Kenny! 😂🤣😂
For now the table saw should do the trick . The woman is usually the one buying the camp wood bundles a the kindling an over the yrs I’ve learned they like a nice package.
That’s awesome.
Thanks Victor!
Great looking kindling!! Very time consuming for sure using a hatchet. I think it’s 47 bundles in that pile of kindling.
It sure is time consuming! Thanks!
I love splitting kindling. Could sit and do it for hours! :)
It is pretty therapeutic Roger!
I'd love to sell your kindlin bundles down here in OOB. I sell thousands of bags per year here and your kindlin would be a MASSIVE hit!!
I think we can make that happen Nick . It’s our first yr really making kindling and I want to make sure we can keep our stands full as well . I will give ya a call this weekend or some evening this week . Be fun to do a video playing with your Easton made ultra as well .
You can market fire starters with all of that sawdust and sell complete packages of wood, kindling, and fire starters to campgrounds
Holding with vice grip works too.
It sure would that’s a great idea
73 bundles a will take a size medium.would a resaw machine be similar to my mention of a gang saw having multiple blades.🙃
Yup resaw machine would be the same idea but add a feed roller like on a planer so ya could feed short 12 in boards through it .
@@AllenFamilyFirewood I did a short stint at a small 4-5 man sawmill about 45yrs ago, made winter seem colder and summer hotter miserable job🤪. gangsaw was the most basic configuration I could think of for your table saw setup without going all fancy shmancy.👍
75 bundles

I'm guessing 35 bundles. Great video y'all.
Thanks! We've had a winner, the comment is pinned at the top. Thanks for watching!
I had a friend that made strip boats, He modded his table saw by adding extra blades with spacer, if you only added 1 extra saw blade it would double your production. 3 blades even better.
Well now I’m gona have to take my table saw apart to see if I can do that . Thanks back to the drawing board I go again
Good for her! That works!
Wow, that’s fast!
50 bundles. Hope this works out like you want. Please be careful, especially after a long day of cutting and splitting out with Buster. Don't lose your focus.
Thanks guys! being VERY careful, trust me!
Why don’t you use Buster 2.0 to split 8 pieces in a handful. I stack 6-10 pieces on my Ramsplitter and it chops each almost the same size
We did try that, but it made a lot of waste and the pieces weren’t consistent in size, which is what we want.
Careful with the table saw Phil. Repetition leads to carelessness which leads to accidents. I know. Years ago l lost the tip of my thumb do something similar. 84 bundles. Mike
Thanks Mike! Trust me, i'm being very cautious. And Karen has reminded me over and over! lol

25. Be Careful with using the table saw. But it is a lot faster and easier. Can always sell the saw dust to some places.

We give a lot of it to the farm next door but most people want it all nice an dry . We produce a lot of sawdust when we are running the saw mill
I think the saw is your best bet too with least amount of waste. Just be safe. My guess is 64.5 bags.

70 bundles I do like the new table saw idea
Thanks! We’ve had a winner, the comment is pinned at the top!
Saw dust can be used as oil dry.
Thanks Jerry. We’re trying to figure out the best use for it!
I sure like to have them boards for wood working mainly bird houses and bird feeders.
If ya near by stop in an we can load ya truck I always have plenty of them kicking around , so many we just started burning them to heat the shop but now at least we can make kindling out of a bunch of them
Fabricate a kindling box wedge for a wood splitter , like cutting french fries
We ended up doing it on a table saw . After we made 2 full cord we found that it didn’t sell very well at our rd side stands
Phil don’t use the conveyor, just use old Buster . 😊
Trying not to have as much scrap pieces
Fix a five finger flare plate to put on splitter to split kindlin with
I don’t know what a 5 finger flare plate is but it sounds interesting an I’m always willing to try something new
@@AllenFamilyFirewood weld 4 plates onto one plate Top plate then weld 4 peace straight down from the top plate or peace then you hook it to splitter.

Remember 50% for you Phil and 50% for Karen. Phil you keep talking can I change my bundles # buddy . 😊
Of course Leonard!
We use the mill to make 8 ft long 3/4 x 3/4 strips

I'm renaming our Firestarter to "no more kindling ". That tells you all you need to know.
Nice looking kindling bundles. Guys. My guess is 23
Thanks Bob!
