I’ve just tried them, they turned out perfect. Ya can’t beat a good auld scone. Just as good as clarkes bakery in cabra. Thank you. Regards from Savannah, Georgia
Thank you for the absolute BEST scone recipe. I don't yet have a biscuit cutter and so used a coffee mug, so only got 8 (😳) really large ones, but they were delicious. Tender outside crumb, moist inside. So good I purchased marmalade for the next batch. The bonus was watching you make them🥰
I made these tonight and they were so beautiful & delicious!! I had them with cream and homemade guava jam! Thank for sharing your talent & this wonderful recipe.
Wow, it's really cool how you work to make a cake that is beautiful and delicious, I will try your recipe my friend, thank you for sharing the recipe for me 6:10
Everything's fine - raising. We got the recipe from Irish Immigrants to Chile at the end of 1800. They didn't use raising. I love it! Thank you for showing! Cheers from Canada.....
These scones win the swimsuit competition. Thanks for this clear and simple video. Grated frozen butter is brilliant. 392° f or 400° for bakers across the pond.
Fantastic recipe and video. I am so impressed with my scones and have taken them to work and given them to family as gifts at Christmas. I would love to get the perfect shape and height. Any additional tips? I haven’t twisted the cutter and dipped in flour before each cut. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Chris for this fantastic recipe. Watching your video I felt like you were making them just for me 🧡 My batch came out great and reminded me of the scones I would pick up at the petrol station during our travels in Ireland last month. Can't wait to go back loved it there so much!!! I've also been on the hunt for a real Irish Brown Bread recipe. Your Guinness bread look like I might be trying that next.
Very glad to hear they turned out well for you! Yes, give that Guinness bread a go. It’s lovely! There’s also another brown soda bread here on the channel. It’s lovely too! Thanks for watching and for giving things a go! All the best, Chris 👨🏻🍳🇮🇪
Okay, I have tried MANY scone recipes, and I was clearly doing something wrong, because they were invariably dry, spready, crumbled to dust, or bricks. But I just made these this morning and they are PERFECT! Thank you for the video! Lessons learned for me: 1) add more liquid until the dough comes together. My previous attempts never had this nice doughy consistency, vs the dough being dry and crumbly. Why do all the recipes say “don’t worry if it looks dry, it will come together”? Lies! And 2) it’s okay to hand knead a bit. All the previous videos issued DIRE consequences about “overworking” the dough, so I was afraid to touch it. I kneaded for a minute or so per this video and my scones were flaky and light. Thank you so much!
GUy May not speak in these videos but we can hear back I made the scones yesterday to American measurements and they were absolutely first rate. This recipe is a keeper and I have several good friends. What’s not to love here great scones a talented man with great works the whole package is a keeper. Thanks for posting this and I am now a subscriber.
You’ll be able to incorporate it faster without warming the butter up. It’s good to keep cool with as little handling as possible. I also place the tray of scones in the fridge while the oven preheats to cool the butter down even more. This helps with the overall shape of the scone and the way they bake ☘️
Very impressed. Yours are much bigger than mine! I guess it's that you use eggs. My ancient recipe doesn't! 200c is Gas Mark 6 by the way for those of us who haven't paid their electricity bill this year!
My own fan bakes things a bit uneven. It can also dry them out a bit. Ovens are different and behave differently though. You will just need to drop the temperature from 200C to 180C 😊
It’s the first time I’ve heard that. You could be overworking the dough. Try not to handle it too much. What flour are you using and how long are you baking them for. Do you use fan oven or conventional oven Kevin?
So my scones come out great while warm but the next morning are always sort of stiff and warming them doesn't help. Should I or can I get them to be good the next day??
Scones dry out and become hard quickly. I always bake and try to eat them the same day. If you make the dough wetter they will be more moist. This will affect the shape though. They will be a little flatter. I store them in a freezer bag. This also helps them from drying out too quick. Hope that helps 😊
I have tried recipe twice but even though I am following recipe carefully my scones look much darker around the sides than your bak😂d scones. What am I doing wrong please?
OK, I made your scone recipe of the weekend I got 10 years since I lived alone I froze 73 away to a friend. Every day I am taking one out the night before put it in my oven at 300°F for about eight minutes. They’re beautiful to work at light airy buttery. These were the ones that I froze. If you were I had on Saturday and Sunday are now my go to recipe. Do you make everything OK easy and hard if you follow your directions. I gave one to 30 and I couldn’t believe how do you been alive play bitch. I love watching your channel and by the way your little boy is extremely cute. I think he has some of his fathers charm. @@irishbakerabroad I use Stevia and regular sugar 50/50 ratio usually so I can have a little treat now and then without a major blood spike. I just don’t like the sugar so often put on top of scones. It’s just too sweet and don’t like that crunch of sugar.
Oh yeah I see I’ve overlooked 2 questions here. My bad.I’m mostly on Facebook and I get a lot of questions daily and try to answer as many as possible. Sometimes I miss some or forget to get back to people.

Love when people use scrapers to clean their bowls
I use a scraper on my shoes after taking the dogs to the park! (Not the same scraper as I use for bread, etc!)

Whoops that comment was meant for this recipe, can I leave the raisins out? Or do I need to add more flour?
They look great Chris! I fancy making them but without the raisins. Just plain. Can I omit the raisins? Will it affect the end results?
It won’t affect it no 😊☘️
Hi chris really enjoying your recipes thank you but what difference would it make to scones if i cooked with fan on please
My own fan bakes things a bit uneven. It can also dry them out a bit. Ovens are different and behave differently though. You will just need to drop the temperature from 200C to 180C 😊

Chris can these scones be frozen?
They can yes! 😊☘️
The cream, has it been sweetened?
No it hasn’t. This was just a little whipped cream. I didn’t have any but clotted cream is what should be used ☘️
Can I just reduce the ingredients by half to get around 6 scones?
If I can't find buttermilk, any substitute please?
Thanks!
Yes you can. There’s a bit written in the description about that. Just click where it says more ☘️
