  • Hey there fellow boat owner. This is a quick run down of how to clean the o2 sensor on your Yamaha outboard. The symptoms on the boat this motor was on would let it get on plane but it would not let it top out. It would also act as if it was starving for fuel after a short run and it would slowly lose RPM's. You need to always keep your filters clean as well so this doesn't lead to more expensive damage. I also changed the VST fuel filter and Primary fuel filter at the same time. Be sure to check those videos out as well.

    Great video. I've have a 2000 200 hp OX66 that I always use Yamaha Ring Free in the fuel. Never had an issue with the O2 sensor or any carbon fouling problems.

    Had some issues with my sx200, been sitting up and trying to diagnose the issue..replaced the high pressure pump because it wasn't priming, failed bench test....replaced and still wouldn't start. I pulled injectors off and 3 wouldn't do anything. Used another video here to make a little injector cleaner with shrader valve...got um working and still wouldn't start. I decided to check the o2 sensor and sure enough it was disgusting. So much carbon and gunk, cleaned it out for 45 mins....got it back together...turned key and viola...starts in first bump of key....I wouldn't say the O2 was the problem 100 percent but definitely helped....thx for the guide. Wish I could post a pic of the sensor...prob never been cleaned.

    there is a zircon (fake diamond) as the working o2 sensor, that is the element responsible for the oxygen particle reading. if it is covered in carbon it will barely make a reading. cleaning the outside of that cover will do not much at all im afraid, it will pay to clean with carb cleaner soaking overnight then blow out with air compressor, it wont hurt to follow this guys advice either.

    Have a low idle alarm kick on same exact motor! Any clues on where to start

    • @idcsports551
      @idcsports551  ปีที่แล้ว

      i dont know of any low idle alarms. I know the alarm will go off if the oil is low or it is overheating.
      1st check oil in reservoir on the motor (holds around a quart) and the large supply in the boat where you normally add oil.
      2nd you either have something clogging your water intake / or exit , or you need a new impeller. You boat can still start pee water even if you need a new impeller, generally you replace ever year or two.
      hope this helps

    So I took a boat out for sea trial, put in water and was absolutely no power when you put it down. It would kick into gear but would not rev at all. He’s fixed it and blamed it on o2 sensor. Just wondering if that’s actually the case with my scenario

    Hey I have a question ! I have the exact same engine and when I’m in idle the engine will run excellent but once I put it in forward it seem like the engine is starving for gas but it only does it when in forward. WOT it runs great and even when I slow down and back to 2mph after running a while it’ll run fine . It seems when I let the engine sit for a while and turn it back on and put it into forward it’s starving for gas.. what could be my issue?

    Love the videos they have helped! We have the same motor on a flats boat and the motor always wants to hesitate to start and get going and once it does it smokes pretty bad and then clears up. Also when going in a no wake zone it seems to run rough like a hardly haha but on plan it runs great. Any ideas on what it could be. Im going to replace the VST filter and check the o2censor but just wanted to see your thoughts.

    • @idcsports551
      @idcsports551  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nock and Release see about removing carbon from your top end. (Look for a video). May look at replacing plugs after you clean everything and run it. Plugs are possibly fouling. Also don’t
      Know if your running premix or still using the oil injector. Make sure you are not OVER oiling.

    • @idcsports551
      @idcsports551  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      cyrusdavirus007 it should be just like this one. The water separator filter normally has a orange plastic floating ring in the primary filter.

    When you remove the Oxygen sensor and housing and tube, is the passage in the engine case open to the exhaust?

    • @poysunivey
      @poysunivey ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it’s just a little bore hole that leads to the exhaust/cylinder wall. Clean it as well. NTK 21006 is a cheaper alternative to the yamaha part.

    My 2000 OX66 250 hesitates at around 1800 RPM. Below that is fine and above that runs smooth and strong all they way up to 5500 RPM.. Could my O2 sensor be dirty and or bad? What about my LP pumps. I think they are original. Could a leaky diagram cause this issue.. I cleaned my VST and other engine filters. I also changed my spark plugs..

    • @idcsports551
      @idcsports551  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check your o2 sensor and make sure you clean the tube. I don't have a video how to check your LP pumps so you will have to look that up about the fuel bulb and the bolts you need to take out to see if they need replaced.

    • @stephenleone2375

      Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the point where the engine switches from the low pressure fuel pump to the high pressure fuel, which causes a stumble until your RPMs go above that spot in the RPM range? I too have that on my 250 OX66 and it's a pain when I'm running in a slow no wake area against the tide. The engine stumbles as it RPMs vary around the 1800 RPM spot, due to running against the tide and hitting other boats wakes, thus impacting the engine's RPMs. Normal or not???

    • @darrinfontana6217
      @darrinfontana6217 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stephen. I changed the 3 LP pumps on my 250 OX66 and the problem is still there. My VST fiter is clean and my Micron filter is new. I will attempt to clean the O2 senser next.
      I was told that our motors run on 4 cylinders under 1800 RPM. after 1800 RPM the other 2 cylinders begin to kick in. It is that in between stage is when it runs like crap. I think I have something else going on with my motors. In addition to my sputtering at this RPM, my motor fluctuates at higher RPM, indicative of a bad O2 .

      Thank you for providing me with that information. Thank God for the internet and people sharing information. I found an informative article on THT , which was taken from "Bass & Walleye Boats" magazine regarding the Yamaha OX66 engine's fuel injected motor's operation, troubleshooting, O2 sensor testing, O2 sensor removal, and O2 sensor installation. It appears to be very well written and certainly informative. I hope that it helps you.
